 Hi  Guys,

I  have  bought  this  fish  today..  It  seemed  to  me  a  neon  goby  while  buying   Shocked  ..  but  after  bringing  home  I  am  pretty  much  sure  it  is  not  a  neon  goby.  Now,  I  know  3  fishes  that  resemble  this  colour/body  pattern.  A)Cleaner  wrasse,  B)false  cleaner  or  mimic  blenny  C)neon  goby.  But  this  one  does  not  seem  to  be  any  of  them.

Differences  I  have  found  in  this  one  from  other  3  are:
 1.  Does  not  have  a  rounded  tail  like  cleaners  or  false  cleaners.  Tail  if  bifurcated  and  transparent.
 2.  Does  not  have  elevated  eyes  like  neon  gobies
 3.  Very  very  agile  snake-like  motion  and  does  not  want  to  settle  anywhere.  It  sometimes  likes  to  get  into  rock  crevices  and  just  pop  its  head  out  for  a  lookout.
 4.  My  Sailfin  tang  hates  it,  which  is  odd,  because  my  sailfin  tang  is  the  nicest  guy  in  the  tank.
 5.  Has  orange  streak  on  the  top  spine.
 6.  Mouth  is  underhung.
 7.  Head  is  like  snakeheads!

Can  you  guys  help  me  identify  what  it  is  actually  so  that  i  may  decide  if  its  safe  for  mt  reef  or  not!
Here  are  some  pics  and  vids..  please  forgive  the  quality..  Still  dont  have  the  right  cam  for  aqua  photogrphy   Sad

Probably  that's  the  reason  why  your  sailfin  tang  hates  it

no  its  not  sabretooth(also  called  false  cleaner  wrasse)..  compare  the  head  shape,  mouth  position,  tail  and  swimming  style..  mine  looks  like  somebody  painted  a  channa  with  the  colour-scheme  of  cleaner  wrasse  Razz

considered  that..  but  ruled  out  since  engineers  dont  have  bifurcated  tail..  this  one's  tail  is  like  the  tail  of  a  chromis

Mithun,  Remember  me?  Long  time  Neutral

Good  to  see  the  transformation  from  a  branded  product  hater  to  using  Hailea  chiller  Chuckle
Thought  you  were  a  "DIY  for  saving  money  type"?

Sure  you  need  help  from  anyone  to  ID  that  fish?

 Regards,

 Hi  Nayak,

sure  i  remeber  everything  clearly..  haha..  no  I  was  never  a  branded  hater..  I  was  always  cost  vs  quality  comparison  freak  ..  DIY  is  the  most  fun  part  of  this  hobby  and  i  always  enjoy  that..  not  only  for  saving  money,  being  an  engineer  fiddling  with  stuffs  is  a  craze  for  me..  and  having  first  hand  knowledge  of  that  I  would  still  pay  for  Hailea  chiller  as  I  know  the  costs  of  good  compressor,  coils,  control  parts  etc..  but  i  still  wont  pay  25k  for  ADA  scissors  ..  Razz

anyways..  sure  i  need  help  from  experienced  guys..  nobody  can  be  "know-it-all"  Smile  But  i  would  appreciate  if  people  dont  dig  up  old  misunderstandings..

@Gatorx  that  makes  sense  because  the  tail  is  transparent  in  this  species  either  way  its  not  safe  of  the  inhabitants.
