Maintain  your  Calcium+  alkalinity+  magnesium  in  proper  levels  and  you  will  never  need  any  of  that  magic  stuff....

Regular  water  changes  and  patience  is  the  short  answer.

Do  you  have  kits  to  measure  all  those  params.  If  you  camt  measure  it  you  cannot  maintain  it  right  :-)

You  cannot  dose  arbitrarily  without  measuring.

If  you  want  the  easy  way  out  just  do  regular  water  changes.

Can  you  provide  more  details  of  your  tank.  When  it  was  setup  etc.  And  why  you  think  you  need  this  additive.

Coralline  grows  fine  once  the  tank  is  settled  and  it  usually  is  a  pain  once  it  gets  on  the  glass.  No  purple  up  required.

 Regards,
 Venkat

+1  with  vkv.  Regular  water  change  is  all  you  require.  For  the  lazy  ones  like  me,  first  buy  a  test  kit  for  all  the  stuff  you  are  going  to  add  to  the  tank.  You  can  then  check  for  2  part  additives.  That  will  take  care  of  the  calcium  ,  alkalinity  and  magnesium  levels.  Its  way  complex  though.  U  overdose  one  of  them  and  the  other  comes  down....  Alk  poisoning  is  not  unheard  of  too.  So  be  careful  and  I  would  advice  regular  water  changes  till  you  get  a  feel  of   the  chemistry.  Its  cheaper  if  you  compute  the  price  too.   A  bucket  of  salt  would  cost  you  only  2200/-  whereas  those  magic  stuff  cost  a  bomb.
Water  changes  not  only  add  the  required  stuff  to  your  tank,  but  also  remove  unwanted  stuff  form  the  water.  IMO  coralline  algae  depends  on  the  following  factors:

 1.  Nitrate  /  Phosphate  level  -  Has  to  be  as  low  as  possible.
 2.  Calcium/alk/Mg  -  Maintain  in  the  required  proportion  and  use  2  part  additive  if  you  are  not  able  to  maintain  them.
 3.  Time.
 4.  A  source  of  coralline  algae  to  start  with.  Could  be  a  small  piece  of  live  rock  with  coralline  algae  on  it,  snails  which  carry  them  on  their  shells  or  even  scrapings  from  an  established  tank.
 5.  Moderate  light.
 6.  No  diatoms  or  nuisance  algae.

The  only  thing  purple  up  does  is  maintain  your  cal/alk  at  proper  levels.  If  you  are  missing  any  of  the  above,  you  will  still  not  have  coralline  even  though  you  dose  purple  up.  If  your  tank  is  leas  than  6-8  moths  old,  you  probably  have  very  little  chances  of  having  them  n  your  tank,  unless  you  have  a  proper  w/c  regimen.

It  is  usually  present  on  any  live  rock  that  comes  into  your  tank  or  on  shells  of  snails  etc  as  cichlid-lover  pointed  out.  Spores  need  to  be  present  in  the  tank.
A  scraping  from  established  tank  is  sufficient  of  you  dont  have  live  rock  or  only  artificial  rock.
Note  that  it  usually  takes  months  for  it  to  start  showing  up  in  a  new  tank.

 Venkat
