I  need  help  on  the  following  from  the  experts  out  here  in  this  forum.  Thanks  in  advance.

I  am  planning  to  setup  a  fresh-water  tank  at  my  home  soon.  Had  maintained  a  40L  tank  earlier  for  an  year  and  have  a  basic  understanding  of  tank  cycles,  filtering,  feeding,  aeration  etc.  However,  I  was  not  into  PH  levels,  CO2  etc.  and  am  not  an  expert  by  any  means.

I  have  a  six  year  old  daughter  who  likes  and  appreciates  the  aquarium  and  gets  involved  in  the  maintainance  now  and  then   Smile.  I  can  spare  a  couple  of  hours  every  week  or  more  if  required  for  the  maintenance.

I  have  seen  some  fancy  round-edge  tanks  in  the  LFSs  that  are  imported  from  China.  Need  advice  on  whether  to  go  for  these  imported  ones  or  the  local  made  glass  tanks?

 a)  Pros  and  Cons  in  choosing  an  imported  tanks  versus  the  local  made  glass  tank

 b)  I  am  concerned  about  the  durability  of  the  electrical  equip  in  the  imprted  tanks?  Are  the  filter/lights  etc.  in  these  chinese  tanks  of  good  quality?  Please  share  your  experiences  about  the  quality  and  also  on  how  do  we  get  spares/replacements.

 c)  Any  recommendations  on  a  LFS  in  Hyderabad  which  sells  these  imported  tanks?  Any  good  shops  in  Hyd  which  deal  only  in  the  local  made  tanks  but  are  reliable?

 Thanks

Welcome  to  IAH.  I  don't  know  if  you  actually  ride  bulls,  but  getting  to  know  your  name  is  better.  Introduce  yourself  please.

 a.  Moulded  tanks  tend  to  be  quite  expensive  and  you  have  to  live  with  what  you  get.  No  choosing  between  the  lights  or  filters.  If  you  can  get  a  good  tank  made  by  your  local  dealer  they  will  do  their  job  just  as  well  and  look  good  too.  A  third  of  the  cost  of  imported  ones.  You  get  to  choose  everything,  size,  lights,  filters,  stand  -  everything.

 b.  Spares  are  definitely  going  to  be  hard  to  come  by  in  the  event  of  a  breakdown.  You  will  have  to  make  do  with  what's  available  in  the  market.

 c.  Never  been  to  Hyderabad.

 @Bullrider,
You  can  get  moulded  tanks  from  Sea  world  aquarium  in  Rezimental  bazar  (Near  keys  High  school).

I  agree  with  Suraj  that  the  imported  tanks  are  priced  exceptionally  high  and  if  there  is  any  replacement  occurs,  it  creates  a  big  hole  in  the  pocket.  So  think  about  it  before  purchasing.
 Regards
 Kaushik

 Hi  BullRider,

 Welcome  to  IAH
Please  introduce  your  self  at  our  Self  Introduction  Thread  -  LINK  :  http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=15

and  also  update  your  profile  with  your  location  (City).

Now  comming  to  your  queries,  well...
I  always  prefer  custome  made  aquariums  because  on  this  you  will  get  lots  of  option  to  choose  whether  on  Imported  Moulded  Tanks,  options  are  limited.

No  doubt,  they  look  good  and  stunning  but  they  are  way  expensive!

Thanks  for  all  your  time  and  suggestions.

I  do  feel  that  the  light/filter  sets  in  the  imported  tank-lid  may  not  last  long  or  otherwise  repair/parts  for  them  will  not  be  so  easy/cheap  to  get.  I  think  this  is  the  main  reason  why  you  have  advised  me  against  going  for  an  imported  one.

But,  they  (moulded  tanks)  do  look  stunning  and  much  better  than  a  local  made  tank!!!  Cost  is  not  a  major  concern  to  me  (to  an  extent),  so  I  am  still  leaning  towards  the  moulded  tank  :-)

How  about,  going  for  a  moulded  tank  and  either
 a)  getting  a  custom  lid  made  locally  with  local  light  set  and  local  filter  to  replace  the  original  one  in  3  to  6  months?
 b)  or  have  the  LFS  replace  the  lid  with  a  local  made  one  before  I  set  up  the  tank?

How  easy/difficult  is  it  to  get  a  custom  lid  locally  made  and  what  will  be  the  approximate  cost  for  a  30*12*6  (inches)  lid  with  light  and  filter  setup?  Any  recommendations  on  where  I  could  get  one  done  in  Hyd?

 Thanks  again!

PS:  My  nickname  is  a  carry-over  from  one  of  my  other  part-time  activities,  I  may  need  to  change  it  to  bear-hugger  this  year  :-)
