jewels+severums....not  a  good  combo  I  must  say,  though  you  can  keep  them  together  in  bigger  tanks.

I  agree  with  Hamza.  Better  go  for  some  malawi  cichlids  instead.

Yes  they  are,  but  I  had  jewels+morphs  in  a  same  sized  tank,  that  didnt  worked  out  well  though,  jewels  went  tail  less  in  a  few  days.
I  agree  with  gatorX,  you  can  house  midsize  American  cichlids  like  convicts,  salvinis  and  firemouths  with  them.

But  IMO  dont  add  any  other  cichlid,  jewels  will  grow  4-5"  easily  and  will  need  space  in  future.  6-8  tiger  barbs,  giant  danios  or  rosy  barbs  are  good  for  keeping  the  internal  aggression  down.

That  depends  on  the  size  and  number  of  fish  in  the  tank.  I  had  a  batch  of  malawis  along  with  jewels  for  pretty  long  time  in  a  3  footer.  My  morphs  were  a  bit  smaller  than  the  jewels  when  i  bought  them,  but  they  grew  very  fast  and  got  as  big  as  the  jewels.  I  had  lots  of  rocks  and  caves  in  the  tank  so  as  to  prevent  the  aggression.

Thumb Up   Totally!!!   Just  see  that  the  severums  are  of  bigger  size,  well  on  second  thoughts  i  am  sure  they  would  go  about  well  any  size.  I  had  jewels  and  severums  and  morphs  in  a  single  3  footer  and  had  no  issues  except  for  when  the  jewels  are  breeding!!!

I  agree  with  mitra  malawis  and  jewels  no  issues  atleast  in  my  experience  too.

So  experts, what  should  I  got  from  this  discussion  is  :
1)Severum  +  Jewel  =  Confusion   Crying or Very sad
2)Malawi  +  Jewel  =  Confusion   Crying or Very sad
3)Severum  +  Malawi  +  Jewel  =  Confusion   Crying or Very sad

Guys,I  already  added  a  pair  of  tiger  barbs, they  are  fine.Severums  looked  too  cool  to  me,deffinately  want  to  add  them(If  they  are  compatible  with  Jewels). If  possible  I  wnat  to  add  morphs  also. But  it  all  leading  to  confusion.PLZ  guys  give  me  a  bottom  line  Cheer Up  .

IRock  just  to  be  on  the  safe  side  add  Severums  which  are  bigger  than  the  jewels  and  forget  morphs  for  now,  if  u  really  really  like  them  i  would  say  add  morphs  too  but  thats  just  my  suggestion.

Thanks  insanesaint, after  all  this  discussion  I  think  adding  severums  will  not  create  any  mess!  and  I  will  not  add  morphs  as  I  dont  want  any  uncomfortness  in  my  tank.  Smile  .Thanks  all  of  u  guys  for  helping  me  Thumb Up

I  will  not  suggest  Malawis  with  Jewels.  Jewels  are  pair  forming  cichlids  and  malawis  are  mouth  brooders.  This  evolution  has  developed  different  type  of  instincts  in  the  two  varieties.  Malawis  are  good  in  huge  numbers  since  the  aggression  is  diluted.  Jewels  do  well  when  they  pair  up  and  the  crowd  is  minimal.
I  will  suggest  you  to  go  for  another  similar  sized  pairing  cichlid  (even  convict  pair  should  do).
You  may  be  able  to  keep  jewels  in  with  malawis  (if  malawis  themselves  are  crowded)  but  if  you  want  them  to  thrive  and  breed,  please  do  not  mix  them.
