 Dear  all.

Just  curious  to  know  how  many  think  and  support  that  IAH:
which  at  present  is  an  HOBBYIST  FORUM
should  be  evolved  into  a  active  SOCIETY?

 Please  vote  &  comment  truthfully.

 regards

 Hi,

I  am  am  referring  to  Active  Society  as  a  public  body  registered
with  the  govt  with  official  name  and  a  governing  body  which  has
a  capability  of  public  presence  and  has  regular  meets  and  performs
activities  regularly  and  publishes  (something  like  green-peace).

 Or

are  we  satisfied  with  the  eForum  and  write  and  read  and  write  more
 and  read  more  ;)

 regards

The  biggest  advantage  of  IAH  is  that  distance  isnt  a  problem.  If  it  were  to  be  an  'Active  Society',  we  cannot  even  dream  of  people  like  Roy  Khoo,  Andrew  Soh,  Haji  Badruddin,  Apistoworldhk[sorry,  dont  remember  his  name],  joining  us  in  discussions.

And  hobbyists  like  Charlie,  Rahul,  Beta,  Madan,  Kiran,  Shiva  Nair,  Elaine,  would  be  thousands  of  kilometers  away  from  each  other  making  it  impossible  to  meet  'Actively'.

Online  forums  make  it  possible  for  people  across  the  globe  to  communicate,  and  share  information  and  ideas  without  moving  from  their  computers.

Two  major  advantages  you  will  be  killing  would  be,

"I  can  be  at  home,  and  still  do  all  my  fishy  talks  and  conversations,  even  acting  like  I  am  listening  to  my  wife  talking!"

"I  can  be  at  office  and  still  do  all  my  fishy  talks  and  conversations,  even  acting  like  I  am  listening  to  my  boss  talking!"

 Can  you  beat  that?

Association  formation  -->>  Runs  well  for  few  years  -->>  Some  one  with  selfish  interest  gets  interested  -->>  Spurious  members  gets  joined  up  by  the  scores  --  >>  The  administrative  positions  gets  highjacked  in  the  next  annual  election  -->>  and  then  Regionalism,  factionalism,  nepotism,  favoritism,  misappropriation  of  funds  etc  etc  etc.   Thumb Down   Thumb Down

I  know  that  it  is  a  far  fetched  scenario,  but  It   has  happened  to  larger  organizations

I  am  120%  happy  with  the  way  the  current  admins  and  mods  run  the  forum  and  it  serves  all  my  purposes.

On  the  other  hand  I  agree  that  the  registered  society  would  probably  find  dealing  with  beaurocracy  easier.  Like  petitioning  against  or  for  Maneka  Gandhi,  preservation  of  mermaids  etc  etc  Smile

PS:-  My  weird  work  schedules  would  make  it  impossible  for  me  to  be  part  of  a  non-virtual  community.  So  even  if  the  IAH  had  a  Kochi  chapter  I  would  probably  be  a  member  on  paper  only

seems  a  good  option  to  evolve  into  a  active  society  ....but  let  us  not  drop  yet  to  conclusions  ...a  good  debate  on  the  pros  and  cons  will  be  a  good  start...as  for  now   my  vote  is  "Not  sure"....i  ll  be  happy  to  work  under  guys  like  madan, trevor  ,kiran.beta,venkat.and  all  others  ..m  loyaltly  lies  with  IAH  and  its  truest  members  Thumb Up

I  think  IAH  is  pretty  set  on  things.  Any  person  or  group  of  persons  can  form  a  society  based  on  geography  and  come  together  with  other  such  groups  over  here.  Thats  the  best  part  I  have  seen.  There  is  ASK  for  Bangalore/Karnataka,  a  group  from  Coimbatore,  lucknow  and  such  to  name  few.  Mumbai  and  Chennai  members  are  regularly  in  touch  I  think.

So  for  meetings  its  better  to  form  local  groups  and  still  be  part  of  the  community  of  communities  over  here  Smile.  What  more  does  one  want?  And  to  add  to  that  we  also  have  the  annual  meets  where  all  members  from  every  part  can  get  together.

Dan,  If  your  post  was  regarding  anything  more  please  do  post  your  opinion.
If  you  meant  a  regulkar  registered  society  kind  of  organization  -  What  benefits  will  it  bring  above  the  present  situation?

Do  you  mean  an  active  secret  society.  Chuckle

Quite  a  few  Bangalore  aquarists  including  me  have  not  met  you  even  though  you  are  Bangalore  based  and  we  have  so  many  meets,  collection  trips  and  even  get  together  for  non  fishy  family  functions.
Going  abroad  is  no  handicap  since  IAH  is  still  accessible.

You  have  joined  IAH  much  before  me.  Thumb Up

So  I  thought  you  were  a  keyboard  warrior.  Chuckle
 No  offense.

we  already  have  our  official  city/state  aquarists  societies;  and  more  are  being  formed  as  we  go  ahead.  this  seems  to  be  the  best  of  both  worlds,  lets  keep  things  the  way  it  is.
