Rahul  has  been  asking  me  about  the  unimaculata  group  a  few  days  ago.Thought  i  would  share  and  promote  to  you  guys  here  on  some  that  i  have  ........

Here's  my  contribution  ........     Thumbs Up

I  got  these  unimacs  on  the  10th  August,2007.They  were  collected  from  Sungai  Hajug,Mahakam  Basin,Kalimantan  Timur,Indonesia. They  belong  to  the  unimaculata  group  and  are  mouthbrooders. The  unimacs  can  grow  up  to  6cm  in  total  length.

 These  are  my  F2s  now.

Majority  of  the  fry  produced  when  later  in  juvenile  or  adulthood  have  this  kind  of  partial  masking.

Lately,i  noticed  that  i  have  got  a  few  of  these  full  masking  unimacs  .Some  have  also  developed  darker  finnage.

A  candid  shot  of  another  male.

 A  nice  flare.

 Thanks.  Smile

 Lovely  pics  and  lovely  fish.

I  think  you  have  a  typo  in  specifying  the  total  length  they  grow  to.  Did  you  mean  6  inches?

 Regards,
 Venkat

 Hi  Haji,

Lovely  fish  and  lovely  shots.  Well  there  is  a  trio  of  Unimas  in  India  now  as  well,  hopefully  they  will  breed  sometime  and  then  the  distribution  begins.  I  have  adult  Unimacs  in  Glasgow  which  are  about  5.5"  i  would  say.  Superb  looking  fish.  Do  you  have  pics  of  Betta  occellata  or  maybe  Betta  coccina.  That  would  be  really  awesome  for  anyone  here  who  has  not  seen  them  in  person.

 Regards

 Hi  Gokul,

 Thanks  Smile

 Hi  Venkat,

No  there  is  no  typo  error   Smile  ......  most  of  the  wild  bettas  are  smaller  in  sizes  as  compare  to  the  other  fishes. The  biggest  of  the  family  would  be  from  the  same  unimaculata  group  with  some  ranging  from  4  -  5  inches. But  the  unimac  above  in  the  photo  is  merely  about  6cm  in  size  ...  ie  a  young  adult.

 Hi  Nikhil,

Wow  ...  good  to  hear  that  you  have  the  fish  in  India  as  well  Thumb Up  Mine  above  is  about  2.5  inches  ......  like  i  said  above  a  young  adult  ......  Yes  i  do  have  some  ocellatas  and  coccinas  photos.I  ll  try  and  pick  some  and  post  them  later.

 Cheers.
