Well  it's  been  long  since  I  posted  here,  been  a  quite  viewer  since  with  few  visits.

Not  that  the  hobby  had  died,  just  the  paucity  of  time  called  for  less  visits  here.  But  I'm  still  strong  in  the  fishy  business  of  things  but,  not  going  as  strong  as  I'd  like  to  be.

Here  are  a  few  last  topics  I  posted  here,  about  a  48x24x30  tank  for  my  planted  discus.

 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=11051

 http://indianaquariumhobbyist.com/community/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=11140

From  there  on  I  had  this  tank  going  in  good  shape.....

but  it  went  in  shambles,  1)  because  of  other  developments  I  was  not  dedicating  enough  time  to  it,  but  the  tank  was  in  good  shape,  only  that  the  progress  on  the  project  was  slow.  2)  I  met  with  an  accident  &  fractured  my  hand  which  literally  saw  the  end  of  my  planted  dream.  All  that  remains  now  are  the  big  discus'  with  hardly  a  few  Anubias  Barterii  &  some  Cobomba.

I  want  to  be  back  in  business,  wanted  to  know  where  can  one  get  decent  reflectors  (i.e.  which  shop  in  Lowhar  Chall)  &  what  should  I  ask  them  for????  i  mean  the  local  name  for  reflectors  there.  Cause  last  I  went  there  whenever  I  asked  for  reflectors  they  seemed  confused  &  on  explatination  showed  me  the  T8  celling  units.

I  also  need  to  know  where  can  I  find  good  long  scissors  since  my  tank  size  is  48x24x30  -  so  with  30  inches  of  height  it's  pretty  difficult  pruning  plants  at  the  base  with  that  kinda  height.  I  know  of  one  surgical  shop  in  Mahim  but  has  anybody  been  there  lately  &  got  some  decent  scissors???  I  need  at  least  12inch  long.  I'd  also  like  a  long  forceps.

And  what  about  Microsol  B  are  they  now  available  here  or  still  needs  to  be  shipped  from  Pune  or  Bangalore???

Here  goes  the  the  current  vitals  on  the  tank  :

 Lighting  -  4  T5HOs  (but  only  2  of  them  working  ;P)
Plants  -  Anubias  Barterii  &  Green  Cobomba
 Fish  -  6  Large  Discus  /  3  SAEs  /  1  Molly  /  2  Rosys
Substrate  -  Laterite  /  Sand  /  Planted  River  Bed  Gravel
 Filter  -  2217  /  Sponge  Filter

Here's  what  I  plan  to  do  with

 Add  Plants  -

 Anubias
 Bacaopa
 Crypts
 Ozelots
 Amazons
 Sagitaria
 Hygophillas
 Vallisnerias
 Cobombas

So  Guys  what  else  would  I  need  apart  from  getting  my  lights  working  for  me  &  the  CO2.  Do  I  need  more  light  or  4  T5HOs  are  good  enough  for  the  job.

 Regards,
 Kaushik

 No  Sugesstions   Sad

Anyway  I've  placed  an  order  for  the  plants  listed  above,  What  I  need  to  know  is  whether  the  lights  will  be  enough,  Since  this  being  a  Discus  tank  I  really  can't  go  with  the  usual  watt  per  gallon  rule;  Planted  Discus  experts  can  advise  here.

Do  anybody  elese  have  such  a  high  Planted  tank??  if  so  how  do  you  guys  maintain  them???  I  still  need  to  know  if  long  10  or  12  inch  scissors  are  available.

Davaa  bazar  also  has  a  good  number  of  surgical  shops  where  you  can  buy  tools  ,  its  a  better  to  go  as  you  will  also  be  able  to  pick  up  stuff  for  your  PMDD  and  also  things  like  Hypo

Mahim  -  that  shop  is  still  on.

 Thanks

Go  to  veternary  surgical  shops,  the  ones  for  us  will  not  have  the  requisite  size.  Further  i  think  its  a  misconception  that  long  scissors  are  helpful  while  pruning.  I  find  the  smaller  ones  are  comfortable  as  it  is  easier  to  maneuver.  Further,  pruning  near  the  sides  of  the  tank  and  around  the  hard  scape  is  difficult  using  long  scissors.  The  same  is  true  for  pruning  carpet  plants  as  well.  On  the  other  hand  long  tweesers  are  more  useful.

Buy  one  6-8  inch  scissor.  and  a  longer  one  if  really  needed.

Microsol  B  has  a  questionable  reputation  now  a  days.  look  at  one  of  Madan's  posts  earlier  in  the  year.  There  was  quite  a  big  disussion  on  its  quality.

Thanks  Ranjit  will  check  that  out.

Preeths  I  agree  with  you  but  just  read  my  Tank  size  again.  it's  48x24x30,  so  reaching  the  bottom  with  a  small  scissor  is  impossible.  Imagine  Standing  in  the  front  &  reaching  to  bottom  of  that  Cobomba!!!  That's  why  I  need  long  scissors.

If  Microsol  B  quality  has  deteriorated,  then  what  is  that  you  guys  use  for  Cleated  Iron  source  in  the  PMDD??

Fair  enough,  see  if  you  can  get  those  scissors  that  are  shaped  like  an  "L"  so  the  pruning  of  stems  will  be  easy.

Ranjit,  Whats  the  local  lanuage  for  reflectors  that  people  understand  at  Lowhar  Chawl,  if  you  know  a  few  shops  which  sells  them  or  where  you  guys  have  purchased  the  refelctors...that  would  help.

Thinking  of  going  there  on  Saturday,  But  I'll  have  to  shorten  my  training  ride  for  it.  hey  are  these  guys  open  on  Sundays????

Well  for  a  30inch  high  tank....  are  T5HOs  good  enough  for  the  plants  that  I'm  going  to  buy???  or  is  a  Metal  Halide  setup  recomended.
