Can  we  implement  a  rating  system  for  buyers/sellers.

I  have  not  been  very  very  active  here  but  have  been  a  lurker  for  quite  sometime  here  and  have  had  plenty  of  both  good  and  not  so  good  experiences  while  trading  here.

There  is  considerable  degree  of  trust/risk  involved  in  trades  over  boards  like  these,  and  it  would  be  very  helpful  if  one  could  get  a  quick  look  at  anyone  reputation,  past  trades  etc.  as  a  trader  before  dealing  with  him/her  directly.

For  example  the  trading  system  at  this  site  -

 www.techenclave.com/forums

Now  i  am  not  sure  if  that  is  possible  with  phpBB  but  It  would  be  great  if  something  similar  could  be  implemented  here.  Just  a  suggestion.

 :)

 Two  questions

 Is  this  a  trading  site?

 Are  you  a  trader?

I  think  thats  a  good  idea  but  I'm  not  sure  if  the  forum  rules  allow  it...

 Hi  Folks,

Value-adding  improvements  are  always  welcomed  on  IAH.
Its  not  Forum  Rules  but  Objectives  of  this  portal  which  need  to  go  through  again  (you  will  need  to  logoff  &  check  second  box  from  the  top  'Welcome  to  IAH'.
Here  hobbyist's  interest  will  be  valued  more  than  anything  else  and  not  any  commercial  concern.

We  have  many  thousands  hobbyists  members  and  a  handful  of  commercial  members  here.  Regular  presence  &  effective  use  of  this  portal  is  enough  for  common  hobbyist  to  verify  reputation  &  credentials  of  commercial  members  operating  on  IAH  through  various  thread  discussions.  We  do  not  need  separate  reputation  system  for  it.
Newbie  member  can  always  post  his  search  and  will  get  recommendations  from  various  active  members  here.

Just  to  be  clear  by  'Trader',  I  mean  anyone  who  posts  on  the  WTS/E  and  WTB  sections  not  the  registered  dealers.

And  I  am  assuming  that  by  'Commercial  Members'  you  mean  the  Registered  dealers,  or  Sponsors  section  people.

I  don't  believe  that  a  trader  rating  system  in  anyway  compromises  any  Objectives  of  IAH.

Can  you  please  explain  How  does  a  'trader  feedback/rating'  system  is  not  in  Hobbyist's  interest  but  only  of  commercial  concern?
because  I  think  it  does  help  traders  a  LOT.  For  example-  I  am  a  new  member  or  a  not  so  regular  member,  or  someone  who  mainly  visits  IAH  for  the  WTB/E  or  WTS  sections  and  not  go  through  other  threads.  And  I  see  that  Aquaholic  is  selling  Staurogyne  and  I  think-  "WOW  Staurogyne,  I  got  to  have  some  of  that.  But  is  Aquaholic  a  Good  guy  or  a  douche  who  will  take  my  money  and  send  me  a  bag  of  sh1t!?"  at  present  I  will  have  to  go  through  a  lot  of  his  posts  to  decide  if  he  is  a  'Stellar  Seller'  or  a  'Douche'.  This  is  where  a  trader  rating/feedback  system  would  be  very  useful  in  proving  instantly  that  Vince  is  a  Great  Seller.

I  wouldn't  have  posted  a  new  thread  if  I  didn't  feel  the  need  for  it.

There  is  no  such  distinction  here  as  Registered  Dealers(?),  Sponsorers  or  any  other  commercial  members.
If  you  are  talking  about  Sponsored  forums,  IAH  just  provides  them  platform  to  advertise  their  products.  Same  goes  with  Banner  ads  and  it  does  not  mean  IAH  is  endorsing  products  of  any  commercial  member.

Ratings  will  not  reveal  true  picture.  A  seller  may  be  'Stellar'  for  one  &  'Douche'  for  another  hobbyist.

I  think  it  would  be  a  good  Idea  to  have  a  rating  system  on  the  lines  of  the  Star  feedback  system  which  was  there  earlier.

Something  on  the  lines  of  what  is  there  at  MFK  maybe?

Why  not?  I  don't  think  it  was  wrong  please  be  more  specific  why  it  was  wrong  of  me  to  use  a  name.
Why  are  you  thinking  that  I  am  asking  IAH  to  guarantee  or  endorse  anything.  There  are  many  ways  in  which  it  can  be  implemented,  please  look  at  trader  section  in  link  in  the  first  post,  many  other  major  aquaria  forums  also  have  such  systems  in  place.  You  can  negate  everything  I  say,  but  its  a  fact  this  thing  works!  and  it  is  wrong  to  just  say  that  we  don't  need  it.
And  I  don't  get  that  flamewars  sentence  either

 Aaah
You  are  a  trader  so  you  want  more  info  for  trade  here

I  am  a  hobbyist,  not  a  trader  I  don't  want  more  details  on  trade  here.  I  don't  consider  this  a  trading  site.

Since  you  posted  this  is  in  the  open  forum  and  not  as  pm  to  the  admin/mods  I  assume  that  you  are  seeking  opinions  on  this

^good  for  you.  Its  fine  if  you  have  never  sold  or  bought  anything  through  this  forum  and  have  decided  never  to  do  so,  you  are  just  a  hobbyist  not  a  trader!  But  lets  not  be  selfish  here,  think  about  other  members  also,  those  who  have/will  buy  and/or  sell  here.  It  will  be  very  good  for  them.

We  dont  have  many  regular  Sellers  here.  customising  the  site  rules/forums/systems  for  a  few  people  does  not  make  sense.  If  you  want  to  sell  as  a  commercial  entity,  build  your  own  website.  Advertise!

The  WTB,  WTS/E  forums  are  sufficient  for  hobbyists  who  sell  extra  stuff  they  dont  need  once  in  a  blue  moon.

This  forum  is  for  hobbyists  and  not  for  traders.  This  is  the  reason  I  think  we  dont  need  any  feature  specifis  for  traders  in  this  forum.

 Miss  Harsh,

Thanks  but  no  thanks  for  brining  my  post  as  an  example  ,  you  also  do  post  on  the  WTS/WTE  forum  so  why  dont  you  take  yourself  as  an  example.  Please  remove  my  name  and  use  yours,  if  its  so  hard  for  you  let  me  do  it.  Lead  thy  Kindly  Light  ...........

I  am  a  new  member  or  a  not  so  regular  member,  or  someone  who  mainly  visits  IAH  for  the  WTB/E  or  WTS  sections  and  not  go  through  other  threads.  And  I  see  that  Harsh  selling  Stringy  Moss  and  I  think-  "WOW  Stringy  Moss,  I  got  to  have  some  of  that.  But  is  Harsh  a  Good  guy  or  a  [i]douche  Bag  who  will  take  my  money  and  send  me  a  bag  of  shyte!?"  at  present  I  will  have  to  go  through  a  lot  of  his  posts  to  decide  if  he  is  a  'Stellar  Seller'  or  a  'Douche  Bag'.  This  is  where  a  trader  rating/feedback  system  would  be  very  useful  in  proving  instantly  that  Harsh  is  a  Great  Seller.

 Cheers

 Vince

PS:  Your  minders  are  doing  a  bad  job,  anywayz  if  you  have  anything  personal,  please  PM/Email  or  Call  me  as  soon  as  you  grow  a  pair  of  O  O.

No,  I  have  purchased  a  whole  load  of  stuff  from  people  on  the  forum.  From  hobbyists,  from  hobbyists  turned  LFS  guys  and  from  commercial  entities  who  maintain  a  presence  on  the  forum.  I  haven't  met  any  douche  Bags  or  been  sent  a  bag  of  sh1t!  as  you  so  crudely  put  it.  That  is  to  say  that  the  lack  of  the  Trader  ratings  system  that  you  crave  hasn't  hurt  me  so  far  on  my  transactions.

You  think  reading  through  a  lot  of  posts  is  a  waste  of  time?  You  want  to  make  things  easier  for  people  who  make  no  contribution  to  the  knowledge  pool  here,  who  just  use  the  forum  to  buy  or  sell  stuff?   Are  you  missing  something  here?

 By  the  way  going  by  the  history  of  your  posts  you  don't  seem  to  have  posted  much  for  sale  or  for  purchase  on  the  forum.  So  tell  me,  did  you  feel  this  burning  need  for  the  rating  only  after  you  turned  into  an  trader  from  hobbyist  recently?  {Say  at  about  the  time  that  your  signature  turned  into  an  advertising  hoarding}
