 Thanks  everyone!

Vyas:  Sure,  weekends  would  work  great.

Bappa:  You  just  need  to  feed  them  well  and  keep  them  happy  :)

I  could  have  done  better  by  eliminating   the  word  'Bangkok'  from  my  blog.      That  seems  to  be  drawing  more  attention  than  my  content  or  the  pictures  ;-)

 Cheers,
 Jai

I  have  12  leptosomas.  4  of  them  are  around  3  inches  and  the  rest  are  smalle.  All  of  them  have  the  silver  colour  (without  any  yellow  or  blue  streaks  visible).  I  am  feeding  them  mostly  spirulina  as  they  are  sharing  a  60  gallon  with  about  8  juvenile  tropheus  mooriis.  Do  I  need  to  change  their  diet?

If  I  remember  correctly,  upto  3  inches  they  don't  show  colors  and  then  as  they  grow  yellowish  or  bluish  tinge  starts  appearing  on  the  fins.        By  the  time  they  are  3.5",  it  should  be  easy  to  identify  the  gender  by  the  color.

Feeding  only  spirulina  doesn't  seem  to  be  the  right  diet.      Occasionally,  you  should  start  feeding  them  some  frozen  food  as  well  as  other  type  of  pellets/flakes.

 Cheers,
 Jai

Very  nice.   It's  a  treat  to  see  such  beautiful  fish.   I'm  happy  you  managed  to  breed  them.   Hopefully,  you  will  be  able  to  part  with  a  few  of  the  fry  once  they  cross  toddler  stage.     Wink

Tried  capturing  the  spawning  display  in  a  Jai's  tank.

 1.  The  dominant  male  with  his  "harem"  of  females

 2.  Works  up  a  bit  of  aggression  and  the  colors  truly  begin  to  show!

 3.  Singles  out  a  female

 4.  The  male  displaying  to  the  female

 5.  The  female  then  "mouthbroods"  -  note  the  protruding  jaw  position.  This  was  a  female  who  had  already  spawned  earlier  that  day

The  harem  of  females  try  to  spawn  at  the  same  time,  guess  a  survival  strategy  to  negate  predators.  These  babies  sure  do  get  a  headstart  with  being  larger  than  the  ones  that  hatch  directly  from  eggs.

One  crappy  pic  of  the  fry

 Cheers,

@jayachandrak  very  nice  fishes  and  Awesome  pics  Hayath  as  usual.

One  question  are  they  aggressive  and  territorial?  they  looks  quite  calm  to  me.
