 hi

this  is  actually  my  second  attempt  with  HC  as  my  previous  dry  start  method  failed  miserably  and  this  time  around  i  started  with  fully  submerged  only  HC  cuba  tank  which  is  planted  4  days  back.  the  tank  specs  are  as  follows

 size:  2*1*1
substrate  :  ada  amazonia  2  (new)
 light:  54  watts  T8  6500k  with  a  photoperiod  of  8  hrs
dosing  :  do  aqua  be  green
 temp:  26-27  c
 filteration  :  eheim  2222
co2:  pressurized  with  drop  checker  showing  yellow  due  to  4-5  bubbles  /sec
fauna:  none  as  of  now  to  high  flow  of  co2

with  all  the  above  points  i  also  do  50%  water  change  every  alternate  days

now  the  problem  is  in  spite  of  good  water  circulation,  lighting,  temperature  the  tank  is  infested  with  algae  ,  i  can  see  visible  growth  in  the  HC  but  now  the  algae  which  started  to  grow  on  the  empty  patches  of  the  substrate  has  now  started  to  take  over  the  plants.

i  cant  risk  removing  the  algae  manually  due  to  the  fear  of  uprooting  the  plants  and  neither  can  i  introduce  fishes  or  shrimps  as  the  co2  flow  is  quite  high

please  let  me  know  what  am  i  doing  wrong  and  how  can  i  control  the  algae  ..

pls  note:  I  use  bore  well  water  which  is  slightly  hard

thanks  in  advance  for  your  kind  advise

 @  Ricky,

What  algae  do  you  see?  Based  on  the  algae  type,  the  precautionary  method  can  be  taken  to  fade  away  the  algae.

I  read  some  where  that  these  dont  need  such  high  lighting,  may  be  reduce  the  lighting  to  around  30w  will  reduce  the  alge  and  may  be  reduce  the  photo  period  to  6hrs  might  work..

Nice.  Very  interesting  that  you  grown  HC  without  CO2  and  in  low  light.

@shelly,  it  look  like  hair  algae  and  increasing  day  by  day..

@  nidhi,  since  i  have  an  increased  co2  flow,  i  thought  its  necessary  to  have  high  light...please  correct  me  if  i  am  wrong

if  my  dosing  correct  or  do  i  need  to  dose  both  micro  and  macro

Hair  algae  is  due  to  high  light.

@abhis9,  will  do  daily  water  change  and  reduce  light

what  do  you  suggest  about  fertilizer  dosing

also  i  had  mentioned  that  i  have  hard  water  in  my  house.  Do  you  feel  that  might  be  a  contributing  factor  for  the  algae

 Ricky,
do  the  water  changes  and  stop  dosing  ferts,  reduce  lighting  and  duration..
is  the  temp  above  28,  if  yes  you  need  to  cool  it  a  bit.  hard  water  might  be  problem  too..

 Ricky,

As  per  my  knowledge  for  a  2  feet  tank  54  watt  light  is  more  and  the  co2  is  even  more.
This  is  brown  alage  and  you  can  clean  it  with  a  tooth  brush.
Try  reducing  the  light  to  36  watt  pll  and  clean  the  alage  and  do  a  9o%  water  change.
AS  you  are  using  ADA  Amazonia  2,  I  feel  for  some  days  you  need  not  use  fertilizer
water  change  is  more  than  enough.

1]  do  90%  water  change  (check  your  tap  water  for  ammonia)
2]  get  your  checker  to  green  colour  and  reduce  ue  co2  to  2bps
3]  ADD  shrimps  they  are  the  best.
 4]buy  glutaraldehyde,  make  a  1.5%  diluted  solution  and  dose  3  times  a  week  (1ml  per  20gal)

 best  of  luck
