 Dear  All
I  changed  my  top  filter  to  new  eheim  2215  yesterday.suddenly  find  my  water  clouded.  I  didn't  retain  my  old  filter  as  couldn't  fit  both  filters  in  my  2ft  tank.  Mine  is  a  established  tank  and  water  used  to  be  crystal  clear  before.  I  rinsed  and  washed  the  media  before  installation.  I'm  not  sure  what  is  the  reason
 (1)  is  my  tank  going  through  a  new  cycle  as  didn't  retain  my  old  filters.  If  yes  how  long  would  it  take  to  cleanup

 (2)  my  inlet  strainer  hose  is  close  to  the  substrate  will  this  cause  cloudiness.

 (3)  is  it  recommended  to  use  products  like  seachem  clarity.

Need  help  and  suggestions  from  experienced  hobbyists.
 Thanks

It  look's  like  your  tank  is  on  its  way  a  new  cycle.

1st  check  if  your  tank  mates  are  healthy  or  you  can  see  any  signs  of  stress.,  if  they  are  safe  then,  you  can  do  few  things  to  clear  your  water.

 1.  Add  some  substrates/stone/sponge  from  an  established  tank
 2.  add  some  live  plants,  which  can  help  to  keep  your  water  clean

The  water  should  clean  up  in  few  3-4  days.

 Hope  it  helps.

Let  the  bacteria  settle  in  the  new  filter  sponge  and  in  no  time  you  will  have  a  cloudy  free  tank.

 Dear  Chandwe

I  think  your  substrate  is  getting  disturbed  by  the  outflow  from  the  filter,  seachem  clarity  will  help  you  to  remove  (settle  down  particle)  the  cloudiness.

There  is  a  lot  of  improvement  after  adding  the  beneficial  bacteria  looks  like  its  a  mini  cycle  water  has  turned  clear  but  not  like  earlier  i  continued  with  bacteria  dose  today  with  50%  of  what  I  did  yesterday  will  keep  posted.

Question  to  Rama  if  the  substrate  is  getting  disturbed  how  will  seachem  clarity  help  will  it  be  a  temporary  solution  or  a  permanent  one

It's  absolutely  normal  that  after  disturbing/cleaning  filtration  system,  water  tends  to  be  cloudy.  Adding  up  good  quality  beneficial  bacteria  will  help  clear  up  the  water  quickly  and  things  should  come  back  to  normal  max  within  4  days.  Without  supplement  of  external  beneficial  bacteria  the  aquarium  will  be  prone  to  disaster.  Prodibio  biodigest  and  API  stress  zyme,  I  tested  in  a  local  pathology  lab  and  under  the  elctron  microscope  I  could  see  bacterias  coming  back  to  life  with  water.  So  I  use  them.

Do  not  add  more  bacteria  than  recommended  in  the  dosage.  One  dose  should  be  enough  for  10-15  days....

 Best,

Have  patience  ...  give  some  time  for  the  filter  to  settle  down...  the  water  will  be  crystal  clear  again...

Those  'miracle'  clear-up  bottles  will  ruin  the  chemistry  in  your  tank.  Its  better  to  have  a  visible  indication  of  the  problem,  than  hiding  the  symptoms  and  still  having  all  the  problems  in  the  background.  A  water  change  will  help  you  in  getting  rid  of  the  cloudiness.  If  you  are  doing  any  DIY  fertilizers,  might  be  worth  stopping  it  till  a  few  days  until  things  clear  up.

Could  you  post  the  media  used  in  the  filters?  You  could  try  squeezing  the  old  top  filter  and  dumping  that  liquid  into  your  canister  filter.

You  might  have  ammonia  spikes  as  your  bacteria  in  the  substrate  is  incapable  of  removing  the  increased  bioload  which  was  earlier  shared  by  the  external  filter  media  where  a  high  concentration  inhabited.  Adding  some  bacteria  might  help  you,  but  even  if  you  don't,  I  guess  the  new  filter  will  be  soon  populated  with  the  bacteria....  Just  give  it  some  time  and  add  some  bacteria  if  available.  If  you  got  any  test  kits,  check  for  ammonia......  Normally  these  things  clearup  all  of  a  sudden  when  the  bacteria  population  starts  inhabiting  your  filter  media(2-3  days)

It's  been  3  days  now  my  tank  is  crystal  clear  again.  The  problem  had  been  that  my  tank  was  going  through  a  mini  cycle.  Adding  beneficial  bacteria  certainly  helped.  Thanks  for  everyone  for  their  views
