It  is  raining  in  Mumbai  and  temperatures  have  dropped  to  26  degrees.  Do  you  have  a  heater?

Do  a  big  80%  water  change.

Gradually  increase  temperature  by  1  degree  every  12  hours  till  you  reach  29  or  30  degrees..

 Stop  feeding  live  bloodworms...
are  the  discus  showing  any  signs  of  discomfort?

IF  his  discus  is  dying,  raising  temperature  could  be  a  precautionary  measure...

I  don't  keep  a  heater  at  26  degree,  but  if  discus  is  sick,  higher  temperature  helps

 Rohan,
I  am  no  expert,  but  I  don't  let  my  tank  temps  drop  below  this   point  of  26'c.
I  try  to  maintain  a  temp  of  27-29'c  for  my  main  show  thank  for  discus.
The  baby  discus  are  at  30'c.  I  have  'eventually'  had  problems  with  discus  at  temps  below  25'c,  if  I  try  to  keep  it  for  a  long  time.
 Cheers,
 Nanu

 Hi  Garothman  ,

When  ever  you  buy  any  discus  ,  you  need  to  keep  the  below  points  in  mind  .

 1)  Buy  from  good  source  ,  who  keeps   discus  for  long  time   .
 2)  Buy  from  professional  breeder  ,  who  is  breeding  discus  for  longtime  .
 3)  Don't  buy  discus  from  Breeder  or  any  source  who  feed  live  feed  like  blood  worms  ,  Tubiflex  etc  .  (  These  live  feed  comes  from  polluted  sources  and  are  not  safe  for  discus  ).
 4)  When  you  are  new  to  discus  better  to  buy   2  inch  size  discus  .  .
 5)  Sometimes  if  the  parents  are  not  cleaned   or  feed  with  Livefeed  ,  their  babies  carries  the  infections  and  dies  .

Quote:
Food=  Freez  dried  blood  worms,  live  blood  worms

Feeding  such  small   discus  with  live  blood  worms  is  not  advisible  ,  stay  away  from  feeding  live  feed  to  discus  .

Quote:
first  time  medication=  Teramycin  and  Vitamins

Antibiotics  to  be  used  on  discus,  only  when  there  is  major  problem  and  that  too  in  correct  way  .

I  suggest  you  ,  you  do  daily  WC  of  25%  ,  Maintain  the  temp  to  29  Deg  C  .   put  little  Salt  after  WC  .

Stop  feeding  live  feed  and  start  feeding  finely  grinded   beef  heart  .  feed  very  less  .

 Cheers

Is  there  anything  else  than  beef  heart?  because  we  cant  bring  home  beef...  if  there  is  any  other  meat,  then  does  it  require  cooking  or  boiling?  should  I  add  garlic,  as  it  is  mentioned  on  other  posts?

Even  goat  heart  will  do,  but  would  be  harder  to  clean,  Ox  heart  will  do  as  well.

Garlic  its  really  up  to  you  about  how  you  make  your  mix.  "Each  one  to  his  own",  I  use  Himalaya  Garlic  tabs.  They  are  already  in  powder  form  and  can  easily  mix  in  the  BHM.  Though  I  have  read  that  ts  the  juice  of  the  garlic  that  is  benificial,  and  the  juice  loses  its  value  after  a  few  hours..so  like  I  said  before  "Each  ones  mix  is  his  best."  Its  just  what  works  for  you.

 Cheers,

I  am  Quoting  an  expert  here.  This  person  only  uses  Beef  Heart  as  it  is  and  doesn't  make  a  mix  out  of  it.

For  discus  ,  you  can  feed  Beef  heart  ,  Pork  heart  ,  Goat  heart  ,  Chicken  Heart  ,  Chicken  breast  ,  or  Beef  meat  also  .  Protein  contains  is  very  important  ,  feeding  protein  more  then  required  is  also  not  good  for  discus  growth  .

For  baby  discus  you  can  prepare  the  food  as  below  ,if  Beef  heart  is  not  allowed  .

 1)  Goat  heart  /  chicken   heart  -  70%  (  700  gm  )
 2)  Spinach                                          -  20%  (  200  gm  )
 3)  Prawans                                       -  10%  (  100  gm  )
 4)  Multivitamin  ,  Minerals  Tab  -  1  Tab

Spinach  needs  to  be  cooked  (  don't  over  cook  )  ,  here  the  percentage  of     spinach  is  more  to  overcome  the  digestibility  problem  .
For  Multivitamin  you  can  add  any  baby  Vitamins  or  you  can  put  one  cap  of  SUPRADYN   (  multivitamin  &  Minerals  )

Food  need  to  be  finely  grinded  ,  like  paste  .

NOTE  :  The  above  receipe  is  for  small   discus  up  to  2  inch  .

Thanks  again  Shiva,  you've  been  great  help  and  thanks  all  others  too,

Shiva,  1  more  question.......  after  grinding  do  I  have  to  put  the  whole  dish  in  freezer?  if  Yes,  then  after  that  it  will  freeze  hard  like  ice....  How  to  feed  the  fish?  do  I  have  to  just  float  the  paste  in  the  tank  directly?

 Please  guide....

 Feed  for  discus  babies  .

After  grinding  to  paste  like  ,  your  can  put  this   in  small  plastic  bags  or  zip  bags  in  smaller   quantities   .  In  this  way  you  can  open  only  one  bag  at  a  time  and  can  consume  it  ,  rest  all  will  remain  in  freezer  in  good  condition  .  You  can  open  one  bag  and  can  cut  to  smaller  cubes  and  can  put  these  cubes  in  smaller  containner  and  can  fed  your  discus  as  and  when  required  .   If  the  discus  are  too  small  you  can  feed  them  after  grating  the  cubes  to  much  smaller  size  .

 Cheers
