The  tank  is  going  great  from  last  1+  years  without  any  problem.

 Tank  size  :  30x12x17  inch
 Lights  :  22  watts  CFL
 CO2  :  None
Substrate  :  Quartzs  Gravel  (No  laterite,  no  special  plant  substrate)
Liquid  Fertilizer  :  Dont  know,  but  its  been  supplied  by  non  other  than  my  Guru,  Mr  Tapas  Sen  aka  Pappu  Sen.

wonderful  job,  rocky..  hats  off  to  u..  i  really  wonder  how  do  these  guys  from  school  find  so  much  time  to  maintain  these  aquariums  properly..  i  remember  when  i  was  a  kid,  i  had  an  aquarium  and  could  maintain  it  only  for  two  months  or  so..  i  used  to  spend  most  of  my  time  then  playing  cricket  and  roaming  with  friends..   Smile

Guess  you  already  mentioned  where  your  priorities  were.  Smile
I  feel  I  used  to  have  more  time  during  school  days  than  I  do  now.  During  my  9th  std,  I  was  taking  care  of  4  dogs,  3  tanks  of  fish  and  a  large  cage  of  parakeets.  Now  the  time  is  enough  to  just  take  care  of  the  1  fish  tank.

My  tank  is  of  nearly  of  the  same  dimensions  and  I  too  use  only  the  same  20W  CFL  lights,  Philips  brand.  I  recently  upgraded  it  to  2x20W  and  the  cabomba  is  growing  very  fast.  Infact,  until  I  joined  IAH,  I  used  to  think  that  the  only  way  to  have  plants  in  tank  was  what  I  recently  learnt  is  refered  to  as  the  Walstad  method,  with  a  40W  bulb  (then)  or  one  of  these  CFLs  (now).  Very Happy

Well  Niroo,  honestly  dude,  until  I  joined  here  I  did  not  have  even  the  slightest  idea  of  watts  per  gallon,  or  CO2  injection,  or  special  aquarium  lights.  But  I  have  had  plants  before  and  they  have  done  well.  Before  I  continue  further,  I  should  add  this  disclaimer.  I  am  not  into  planted  aquaria  and  I  am  def  not  an  expert  in  various  plant  requirements.  I  just  like  to  keep  plants  to  supplement/compliment  the  fish.  My  basic  techniques  have  done  well  for  me.  :)

From  what  I  have  observed  in  the  details  shared  here  in  the  forum,  and  my  own  experience,  is  this.  That  light  seems  enough  for  the  typical  plants.  Should  provide  a  good  "amateur"  planted  tank.  But  the  end  result  is  definitely  no  where  near  the  "professional"  tanks  that  use  CO2,  and  special  lighting  and  all  that.  I  have  drooled  over  photos  of  sir  Trevor's  set  ups,  and  even  today,  PC  sir's  tank.  But  then,  I  am  not  really  interested  that  much  in  planted  tanks  to  take  it  to  that  level.  And  in  my  opinion,  the  tanks  posted  in  this  thread  too  still  have  to  go  further  to  match  the  "professional"  tanks.

But  yeah,  the  CFL  lighting  quickly  had  become  insufficient  after  a  matter  of  4  to  6  months,  though  the  brightness  is  still  the  same,  and  the  light  needed  to  be  replaced  to  retain  the  growth  rate.  And  I  do  wonder  if  the  plants  in  Prashant's  tank  perhaps  require  higher  lighting,  and  the  comparatively  lower  lighting  had  reduced  growth  rate  and  made  it  easy  for  him  to  maintain  it  in  such  a  good  state.  Hope  the  senior  ppl  who  have  tried  all  the  methods  could  share  their  opinions  on  the  same.  Smile

 Wow,Wow,Wow,  Gauthamji.

 Fantastic  planted  tanks,  My  Kudos.

Posted  in  the  true  spirit  of  IAH  where  other  people's  effort  are  appreciated  rather  than  our  own!

How  come  none  of  these  tanks  were  showcased  before?  Convey  our  appreciation  to  the  young  achievers.

I  second  Mayur.  A  new  Trevor  from  Kolkata  who  displays  other  people's  effort  selflessly.

 Regards,
 Nayak.
