Deba, it's a trade off, high CO2 levels at night - plants spend more energy in respiration. Lower the CO2 concentration in water better the plant respiration and transfer of CO2 to the water.
How much the plants are affected is not exactly known. So it's a question of striking a balance again. I have used CO2 24 x 7 and did not see any trouble. I now use CO2 for 10 hrs a day, and still don't notice anything different yet.
We know fish get sluggish at 40 ppm CO2 concentration but can still survive without harm. They too have the same problem of diffusing CO2 to the water through their gills at high CO2 concentration.
In natural systems where CO2 diffuses into water it happens all through the day, but not at the rate we inject CO2 into an aquarium.
Use CO2 24 x 7 - your bubble count may be 1 bubble per second.
Use CO2 for 10 hrs in the same tank your CO2 will be at 3 bubbles per second when lights are ON. That's a lot of CO2 to inject continuously for 24 hrs.
