 Just  my  guess.   Smile

seriously  this  is  getting  bad  to  worse,  last  time  a  few  of  my  threads  were  deleted(they  were  restored  later  although)
and  now  my  threads  are  moved  from  a  valid  sub-forum  to  the  CHIT  CHAT,  WTF

 already  split  'em
and  they  already  are  eating  small  earthworms
they  don't  seem  to  like  pellets,  although  they  are  chewing  and  spitting  'em  out

don't  wanna  starve  'em  so  soon,  as  now  is  the  time  they  grow  fast  and  starving  them  now  would  result  in  slower  growth
will  wait  till  they  get  to  4"  or  so  before  trying  to  switch  to  pellets

 Hi  Jib,

Even  i  have  been  smitten  by  Thai  silk  FH's  beauty.  But  have  never  kept  any  FH.  So  would  like  to  ask  how  difficult  would  it  be  to  keep  them?

The  minimum  tank  size,  water  change  regime  and  any  special  care  etc.

 Thanks!

these  are  my  first

before  i  got  these  guys  i  had  a  niice  talk  with  an  avid  FH  keeper,  and  from  his  account  i  can  say  they  aren't  much  different  now  from  all  the  other  FHs

unlike  in  the  initial  stages  the  strain  is  much  more  stable

and  about  the  way  to  be  kept,  keep  the  fish  in  the  similar  conditions  like  all  the  other  FHs  are  to  be  kept,  but  not  like  the  way  faded  ones  are  kept

about  them  being  fertile  or  not,  when  i  asked  him,  but  he  asked  for  the  exact  source,  but  alas  i  don't  know,  thus  he  says  grow  them  out  and  check  'em  out

Okie  thanks  a  lot   Smile   .  Forgot  to  ask,  how  big  do  they  grow?  Is  a  tank  of  2'x1'x1'  decent  enough  for  them.

even  if  some  one  has  kept  a  very  old  one  i  doubt  any  one  has  got  a  chance  to  actually  keep  it  to  its  full  life
as  this  strain  hasn't  made  even  a  full  five  year  time  since  it  was  introduced  or  "invented"  by  a  thai  FH  Breeder  in  singapore

Are  you  saying  this  hybrid  has  been  created  less  than  5  years  ago?  (I  didn't  know  that.)

I  am  not  too  keen  on  FHs  any  more  (after  reading  a  few  articles  about  them),  but  these  seem  to  be  beautiful  specimen  nevertheless.  Good  luck  growing  them  into  monsters  :)

Also,  don't  these  fish  need  one  tank  each?  So  now  you're  planning  to  have  four  tanks  with  one  Thai  Silk  FH  each?  Interesting...

 Regards,
 Sid

PS:  Can  the  mod  who  moved  this  thread  to  "chit  chat"  please  move  it  back  to  cichlid  forum?

PPS:  As  this  is  currently  in  "Chit  Chat"  forum,  I  would  like  to  remind  "everyone"  that  "AAAAR  CEEEEE  BEEEEEE"  lost  to  Mumbai  Indians..  Thumb Up  <-  This  is  not  a  thumbs-up  but  a  "thenga"   Chuckle

Well,  while  adding  tanks  to  my  "collection",  space  is  a  very  big  consideration  for  me  even  though  my  (3BHK)  apartment  is  quite  much  much  larger  than  average  size  apartments  in  Bombay.   (I  guess,  "space"  is  a  concern  for  most  aquarist  living  in  apartments  in  a  place  like  Bombay.)

Given  all  this,  it  is  interesting  (to  me)  to  see  you  can  have  4  tanks  for  four  specimen  of  the  same  species.  :)

(I  didn't  mean  any  offense.  I  don't  know  if  my  previous  comment  seems  that  way.)

 Cheers,
 Sid

hmmm  yeah  availability  of  space  is  always  a  pain,  but  then  i  don't  have  community  tanks  at  all,  except  for  one  big  one
else  everything  is  a  single  specimen  tank
i  do  live  in  an  appartment,  but  when  u  are  a  bachelor  living  alone  in  a  2BHK  appartment,  i  guess  u  don't  need  to  worry  much  and  other  than  that  i  have  most  of  my  tanks  are  in  mysore  at  home(sweet  home)

no  offense  taken,  just  was  curious  about   the  comment
