Well  considering  the  slime  coat  of  the  discus  and  the  cloudy  eyes  of  the  piranha,  I  would  think  its  a  problem  with  water..  could  be  water  poisoning  due  to  a  insecticide,  paint  or  sudden  influx  of  some  metal.
I  dont  think  its  ammonia  spike  as  I  dont  see  any  ammonia  burn  on  the  fins.
I  would  move  them  to  old  water,  add  some  rock  salt,  reduce  water  level  and  have  mild  aeration.

I've  been  considering  a  water  contamination  too,  Beta.

I  have  yet  to  find  my  maintenance  guy  to  find  out  about   the  water  source,  but  security  told  me  there  was  maintenance  done  on  the  tanks  almost  a  month  ago.

On  a  side  issue,  there  was  some  building  and  painting  done  over  the  last  week  in  a  ground  floor  flat,  about  50  -  100  feet  away  from  our  block's  sump.

Tanks  are  already  at  40%  water  level  since  yesterday.  I  have  a  100  litres  of  3  day  old  water  stored  -  also  treated  this  with  Chlorinex.  Shall  try  small  wcs  in  the  evening  and  see  what  happens.

I  d'ont  think  its  Chlorine/Chloramime.  All  of  us  in  your  immediate  vicinity  are  using  the  same  water.

 Hi  Pradeep,

Sorry  for  your  loss  budy.  I  had  faced  same  problem  a  couple  of  months  ago  with  my  discus,  they  were  also  became  dark  as  yours.  I  tried  to  treat  them,  but  failed,  they  all  died  one  by  one.  Crying or Very sad

On  that  time  I  had  introduced  some  new  Discus  to  my  main  discus  tank  &  they  all  became  darker  within  24  hrs.  Then  I  learned  i  should  never  mix  any  new  discus  with  old  ones.

Have  you  did  the  same  mistake  (added  new  discus  with  old)  or  what.  Sad

 Hi  Pradeep,

As  discussed  I  lost  all  my  aggels  including  the  breeding  pair,  a  neon  tetra  and  as  I  entered  office  one  more  victim  to  unkown  prey.  Not  sure  which  fish  as  my  brother  is  not  familier  witht  eh  name.

Anyways,  got  the  following  to  take  care  of  water  contamination...I  guess  that  should  be  the  reason

       1.  Sera  Aqutan  -  Wter  conditioner(  removes  chlorine, chloromine,  and  metal  traces.

       2.  Rid  All  -  Anti  Chlorine

Which  one  should  i  be  using?

 Regards,
 Surya.

Hi  Surya,  i  would  suggest  the  Sera,  it  is  Chloramines  that  will  affect  the  fish,  chlorine  is  taken  care  by  Hypo.

 Hi  Nikhil,

Thank  you  for  the  respone.  I  dont  use  hypo  and  as  sera   and  rid  all  specifies  that  it  takes  care  of  all  the  elements  will  go  ahead  using  sera.

                Pradeep,
Sorry  for  making  use  of  your  thread  for  sugesstions.

All  BWSSB  water  is  treated  with  chemicals.  The  intensity  with  which  it  is  treated  generally  increases  during  the  start  of  the  rains  an  at  this  time  you  have  to  be  careful.

Stock  up  on  Hypo  ,  try  to  keep  some  water  stored  for  emergencies.  Get  one  of  the  above  chloramine  and  heavy  metal  binders  just  in  case.

Hypo  will  actually  take  care  of  chloramines  too  but  the  dosage  required  is  double  that  of  chlorine,  and  you  will  have  free  ammonia  in  your  tank.

 Fish  Updates  :
 Remaining  p's  are  fine.

I  have  a  single  discus  still  doing  the  headstanding  and  dark,  but  I  think  this  is  more  a  hexamita  problem?

Rest  of  the  fish  have  no  problems  because  they  haven't  had  any  water  changes  over  the  weekend.

Its  the  same  story  at  this  time  of  the  year,  every  year  for  so  many  years.  And  there  is  no  need  to  panic.

 Hi  Pradeep,

Quote:
Discus  tank  temperature  at  30  degrees,  and  tank  treated  with  epsom  salt.

 Why  epsom  salt  dear.

I  have  experience  that  if  u  found  lots  of  tiny  bubbles  on  all  of  your  glass  then  sure  that  chlorine  is  more  in  water.  Even  u  r  using  the  hypo  &  some  day  the  chlorine  is  more  in  the  water  u  can  able  to  see  these  bubbles.  so  after  large  water  change  observed  the  glasses  after  5  minutes  &  if  u  found  bubbles  then  use  more  hypo  according  to  bubbles  density.

If  u  feel  after  water  changes  fish  r  not  comfortable  then  use  salt  &  on  your  heater  immediately.  This  helps  your  discus  to  recover  fast  in  any  shock.

 hi,
My  wc  is  due  this  weekend  and  this  news  of  chloramine  in  water  scares  me  out.  I  have  come  across  many  products  for  conditioning  water  in  our  forum  posts  like  Sera  Aqutan, hypo, stress  coat,  AQUA  Plus,TETRA's  NH/Cl  Remover  etc.

Can  you  please  suggest  what  should  I  add  as  a  conditioner  to  remove  these  chemicals  before  I  attempt  a  wc  this  weekend.I'm  just  starting  to  get  a  hold  of  the  hobby  and  don't  want  to  lose  all  my  fishes  so  early  due  to  wc.

 Thanks  in  advance
 babu
