You  need  not  doze  any  fertilizer.  Your  plants  will  still  do  well  with  ADA  soil.  But  never  never  doze  PMDD  with  ADA  soil.

Alright  from  the  looks  of  it  ..  ADA  and  a  mix  of  soil  is  a  no  no  due  to  algae.  So  what  are  the  other  options  that  i  have.  How  about  other  Substrates  like  Prodac,  Red  Sea  Flora  base,  Ocean  free,  Azoo

Do  we  think  any  of  these  may  match  with  alluvial  soil  ??

@Dev,  You  need  no  ADA  nor  any  cycled  tank  to  grow  them.  >5WPG+Lethal  amount  of  CO2  and  Dry  Dosing  will  do  the  magic.  And  the  most  important  factor  is  Temparature.  You  have  to  keep  the  temp  fixed  to  24-26  degree  for  the  first  month,  specially  when  they  are  about  to  start  growing.

 All  the  best.

@Nash  Bhai.......  No  need  to  mix  anything  with  the  existing  soil.  Keep  the  setup  just  like  that.  There  are  lots  of  plants  which  will  grow  in  your  existing  substrate.  Keep  the  setup  as  of  now.  And  try  other  substrate  in  your  next  setup.  Mixing  Substrate  in  a  running  tank  means  inviting  evil.  Smile

Hemianthus  Micranthemoides  is  growing  very  well  in  my  6  footer.  Tank  temperature  is  31  degress.

This  plant  is  a  key  showpiece  plant  which  grows  like  a  weed  in  Sunshine  Aqua  in  Kolathur.  The  tank  does  not  even  have  a  cooling  fan  running  and  the  growth  is  simply  awesome.

 Cheers,
 Prem

Prem.....  thanks  to  share  the  info.  But  I  am  growing  these  plants  just  like  an  weed  in  my  tank  when  the  temp  is  26  degree.  There  are  many  guys  who  got  the  cuttings  from  me  and  tried  to  grow  the  same  in  there  tank,  they  just  burned  their  fingures.  The  plant  simply  melt  away.

So  does  it  need  a  fertile  bed  which  the  aquaclear  is  unable  to  provide?

 @tirtha

The  issue  i  have  is  if  you  look  at  the  tank  pics  i  have  some  white  and  black  stones  in  the  front  2-3"  of  my  tank.  Now  if  i  remove  those  below  it  there  is  nothing  fertile.  Its  only  brown  gravel.  No  soil  below  it.

I  want  to  replace  that  portion  with  some  carpet  plants.  So  i  am  looking  for  options  here.
 ----

The  other  thought  i  had  was  the  use  of  Java  /  spiky  moss.  I  could  probably  get  a  peice  of  plastic  netting  across  that  3"  area  and  stich  it  down  on  it  with  a  cotton  thread.  Similar  to  the  moss  wall  we  created  at  Aquatika,  Can  a  moss  bed  be  created  Experts??  Would  the  results  look  good  over  a  period  of  time.??

 cheers
 nirav

 Hi  Nash,

Spiky  moss  is  a  good  option.  You  just  wrap  it  around  the  rocks  you  have  and  it  would  form  a  very  good  carpet.  I  have  done  the  same  in  my  2  foot  moss  tank.  The  below  picture  is  where  you  can  see  the  moss  growing  on  the  rocks  apart  fromt  he  driftwood.

 Here  is  my  HM  growing.
