 Pratik,

i  was  suggested  to  do  50%  water  change  by  Shiva  due  to  water  conditions  in  mumbai  ROFL

before  i  would  always  do  95%  Wc.

 regards,

 Clive

 clive,

hmmm..i  did'nt  know  that..actually  the  water  i  use  is  from  a  tank  that  is  stored  above  my  building..so  the  effect  of  chlorine  is  considerably  reduced  when  i  use  the  water..i  also  use  hypo  crystals  just  incase  also..

shiva  also  told  me  something  very  interesting  that  day  when  i  was  talking  to  him  about  WC  for  some  new  red  melon  babies  that  i  had  bought....went  something  like  this,  "  you  can  change  even  100%  water  EVERYDAY,  provided  the  water  is  conditioned.."

plus  as  my  tank  is  near  the  balcony..a  drastic  temperature  change  never  occurs..

 thanks  anyways  for  the  tip..

a  way  by  which  we  can  provide  the  Discus  with  benefits  of  a  WC  without  the  actual  WC.

This  is  not  possible,  unless  you  have  a  very  large  volume  (50  odd  gallons)  of  water  per  fish  and  a  very  good  filtration  system.

It  may  not  be  possible  to  get  your  fish  to  grow  to  5"  in  one  year  with  minimal  water  changes,  in  home  aquaria.

It  is  possible  to  get  your  fish  to  grow  to  that  size  in  about  2  years  with  careful  water  management.

I  can't  think  of  an  economical  solution  that  provides  rapid  growth  in  the  absence  of  regular  water  changes.

I  can't  think  of  any  alternate  solution  either.

You  can  provide  best  of  filters  like  Eheim  to  your  discus  tank,  overfeed  them  and  still  have  crystal  clean  water.
Even  without  regular  WC,  you  can  raise  them  by  compromising  their  growth  pace.

 Ilango,

How  about  a  very  big  tank,  may  be  about  200g  for  just  3-5discus?  that  must  reduce  the  WC  regime  WRT  the  inhibitors,  as  they  might  be  diluted  in  such   big  tank.
+  Few  floating  weed  plants  to  remove  nitrates.

May  be  thats  what  the  situation  @  Clive's  friend,  6ft[?gal?]  and  just  6discus.  Luxory?

If  they  are  lazy  they  won't  be  visiting  IAH.
The  idea  behind  this  thread  is  to  find  ways  for  more  people  to  get  into  discus  keeping.  One  of  the  mail  problems  for  any  enthusiasts  to  jump  into  discus  keeping  is  the  WC.  If  we  can  find  a  way  of  overcoming  or  reducing  it  more  and  more  people  will  get  into  discus  keeping  and  have  the  luxury  of  enjoying  these  beauties  in  their  own  tanks.

 Guys,
Please  give  rest  to  frequent  WC  subject  now  as  it  seems  cleared  as  of  now.

 Ilango,
Thought  you  will  come  up  with  more  questions  as  stated  in  your  first  post  of  this  thread.
