After  pouring  rains,an  inefficient  wiper,no  wireless  signal,a  dead  laptop  and  quite  a  draining  journey  with  some  'meaty'  delays,  we  managed  to  reach  Gokuls  at  1:10  AM.  The  poor  guy  had  to  ride  10kms  to  meet  us  on  the  main  road  cos  the  route  from  the  main  road  was  quite  tricky.

Madhu  joined  us  in  Salem.  Overall  the  journey  came  upto  426  kms.

For  most  parts,  we  had  to  cope  with  landmarks  like  a  bunch  of  pipes  on  the  left,  some  trees  on  the  right  etc  etc  but  hey......What  the  hell??????  We  reached.

we  spent  more  than  half  an  hour  admiring  Gokuls  tanks.  Very  neat  set  ups  with  a  lotta  natives.

Most  of  the  night  was  spent  on  the  terrace.  People  started  plopping  down  close  to  4:00  AM.  I  should  thank  Gokul  for  putting  up  with  our  boisterous  behaviour  (considering  the  neighbours  lights  kept  goin  on  and  off.  I  wonder  why???)

We  left  Gokuls  place  at  around  6:30  AM  and  were  joined  by  Suraj  and  Co  half  way  through.

The  first  spot  was  a  place  called  Kaundhambatti.  It  was  a  small  stream  running  through  some  farm  lands.

Species  we  managed  to  collect  :

 Ambassis  Sp.
 Puntius  Sarana
 Puntius  Assimilis
 Puntius  Ticto
 Puntius  conchonius
Danio  Aequipinneatus  (Ridiculous  man.  They  just  kept  jumping  into  our  nets.)
 Ghost  Shrimp
 O.Dancena
 Garra  Mullya

Pics  of  the  fish  are  being  uploaded  as  Im  typing  out  this  update.  The  signal  s  as  bad  as  my  Hindi  (which  is  really  bad.  Truly)

Till  then  ,  you  will  have  to  do  with  pics  of  us.

Prasoon  s  Wipers  doing  less  than  half  what  they  re  expected  to  do.

After  ransacking  the  first  spot,  we  proceeded  to  the  next  spot  which  was  near  Gobichettypalayam.  Bout  a  half  hour  drive  from  the  first  spot.

All  of  us  were  delighted  with  the  fact  that  there  was  absolutely  no  man  made  fertiliser  in  any  of  the  spots  (maybe  they  were  camouflaged).

The  second  spot  was  quite  small  but  it  was  quite  interesting  in  terms  of  fauna  found.

 Species  collected:

 X.Cancilla
Danios  (And  so  it  goes  on)
 L.Thermalis
 E.Maculatus   (Breeding  Pairs)
 P.Conchonius
 P.Assimlis
 A.Panchax
 Wood  Shrimp
 G.Curmuca
 S.Boopis
 Ghost  Shrimp
 M.Armatus

I  was  quite  surprised  when  a  bunch  of  kids  came  to  check  us  out  (in  the  normal  sense  of  course)  and  started  yelling  Etroplus  seeing  the  E.Maculatus.  That  s  apparently  they  are  referred  to  as  by  the  locals  too.

The  pics  from  the  first  Collection  Spot  :

 Collecting

 Still  Collecting.

Gokul  had  a  marriage  to  attend  so  he  left  after  collecting  in  the  second  spot  for  a  while.  Thanks  for  the  hospitality  man.

We  ransacked  our  fair  share  and  decided  to  break  for  lunch.  Suraj  also  joined  us.  We  of  course  had  only  one  goal  in  our  mind.  MEAT  and  lots  of  it.  Stopped  at  a  small  biryani  place.  Suraj  then  took  leave.  Thanks  for  joining  in  Suraj.

Most  of  us  were  visibly  hungry  and  Rajeshwaran  was  positively  ravenous.  Judging  by  his  order,  Chickens  will  be  declared  an  endangered  species  in  Gobichettypalayam  anytime  now.  The  only  thing  that  was  missing  was  a  checklist  so  he  could  tick  off  everything  on  the  table.

After  a  rather  fullfilling  lunch,  we  headed  to  Salem  to  drop  Madhu  and  off  and  paid  a  visit  to  Madhu's  fish.

Some  amazing  tea  and  pics  later,  we  left  Madhu  s  house.  We  are  right  now  in  Attur  and  hope  to  make  it  back  by  10:00  PM.

Unfortunately,  signal  strength  is  very  bad  and  I  have  had  to  make  the  same  post  multiple  times  (its  almost  as  pissing  off  as  the  Danios.)  Im  posting  whenever  I  get  a  hint  of  a  signal.

A  few  more  pics  from  the  first  spot  :

 A.Ranga

There  was  one  more  we  caught  with  what  seemed  like  a  deformed  spine.  Will  post  pics  later.

 Puntius  Assimilis

 Packing  the  fish  and  breakfast.

 The  first  spot.

Ps  :  Prasoon  tortured  all  in  his  car  with  repeated  hearings  of  Mohan  hits.  Thats  6  plus  hours  of  Mohan's  songs.  I  can  assure  you  I  would  rather  cheerfully  check  into  a  concentration  camp  on  anyday.

 Hayath,
Just  now  dropped  it  into  my  tank.   I  think  its  neither  a  G.  curmuca  nor  a  kolus.   Lemme  check  out  K.C.Jayaraman's  book.   But  it  was  a  big  surprise  to  see  a  Gonoprokopterus  in  Bhavani  river.   Have  been  to  those  places  more  than  a  dozen  times  but  this  is  the  1st  sighting.

 Vyas,
Found  only  one  shoal  of  it  and  were  able  to  snag  only  one.
