Hey  Rahul,

Eagerly  waiting  for  a  picture  of  your  much  hyped  magical   and  colorful  swimming  shorts.  Razz

You  have  belittled  mine  and  Madhus  proven  ones.  ROFL

 Regards,
 Nayak.

These  are  special  shorts.  They've  attracted  fish  (and  mermaids)  both  in  India  and  abroad  Razz

I  could  arrange  for  a  special  preview  at  Aquatika  if  people  are  really  desperate   Very Happy

 Did  you  forget  me???  Knock

and  banjo  in  addition  to  food.....  you  do  need  sexy  shorts  to  put  up  with  my  scarlet  and  Rahul's  mermaid  magnet.

Any  info  on  Manas  Wildlife  sanctuary?   If  i  remember  right,  its  in  the  border  and  not  too  far  away  from  Buxa.   Correct  me  if  I'm  wrong.   Even  though  fishing  in  the  park  would  be  prohibitive,  we  could  check  out  the  streams  and  water  bodies  flowing  out  of  the  reserve  area.

I've  got  an  electric  blue  pair  with  bright  pink  fish  on  it.  Beat  that!

I'll  be  getting  most  of  the  fish  too.  Very Happy

It  ill  be  really  great  if  any  of  you  can  manage  a  GPS  map  of  the  area  you  are  planning  to  venture.  Otherwise  you  will  be  no  where.  The  specific  part  of  WB  and  Bhuttan  is  full  of  waterbodies.  Make  sure  you  have  planned  well  where  you  want  to  go  exactly.  I  was  there  in  Siliguri  for  3  years  and  been  to  Bhutan  many  times.  I  will  suggest  to  avoid  the  researve  forests  and  the  main  rivers  like  Tista.  Most  of  the  reserve  forests  will  be  closed  due  to  mansoon  and  the  big  rivers  will  be  unaccessable.

You  can  try  with  Local  Forest  department  to  find  out  the  best  place  to  venture  for  the  natives.  Sukna  lake  will  be  great  but  Mirik  won't  be  able  to  make  you  happy.  That  man  made  lake  mostly  left  with  nothing  except  the  scenic  beauty.

And  if  you  don't  want  to  waise  a  day  to  overcome  from  body  pain,  don't  avail  bus.  Right  after  mansoon  the  road  condition  will  be  pathetic.  Avail  the  best  option,  Darjeeling  Mail.  But  need  to  book  ticket  minimum  before  a  month.

 Yup  Tirta,
We  will  be  going  by  train  wherever  there  is  a  track  but  anyways  we  are  used  to  the  OffROADS  in  India.   IMO,  this  would  be  more  of  an  exploration  trip  than  a  collection  one  as  this  is  the  first.

From  what  I  have  read  militancy  is  rampant  in  lower  assam  (in  fact  in  all  three  corners  of  assam).  Manas  allegedly  has  been  poached  heavily  after  the  Bodos  became  autonomous.  Which  is  one  of  the  reasons  why  Kaziranga  hogs  the  limelight  nowadays.

I  second  kaushik  that  such  regions  of  assam  be  avoided  for  the  moment.

Okay  then,  the  head  count  as  of  now  is:

 1.  Rahul
 2.  Madhu
 3.  Neil
 4.  Gautam  (Rocky)
 5.  Sujoy  (?)
 6.  Tarun  (?)

Tentative  plan  is  to  assemble  in  Kolkata  on  the  31st  of  August,  leave  that  night  and  get  back  to  Kol  by  the  5th  or  the  6th.

Let's  get  the  numbers  and  dates  sorted  out,  so  we  can  then  fine  tune  the  itinerary.

 Hi  Rahul,

Please  do  add  1  more  person  on  the  list.
He  is  none  other  than  Freaky  Pappu  Sen!  I  asked  him  about  this  and  he  is  very  much  interested.

Okay, the  approximate  schedule  for  the  trip  would  be  Kol>Jalpaiguri>Buxa/Mirik>Sikkim>Kol.

 Day  1:  Jalpaiguri
 Day  2:  Mirik/Buxa
 Day  3/4:  Sikkim
 Day  5-end:  Kol

 Dear  Neil
Don't  mind  I  think  your  route  chart  needs  slightly  alteration.  Because  from  Mirik  to  Bauxa  (Jalpaiguri)is  about+120  Kms  and  the  road  is  on  Hill  side.  So  to  cover  such  a  distance  in  5  hours  is  difficult.
Are  you  starting  from  Jalpaiguri(Very  near  to  Bauxa)or  New  Jalpaiguri  /Siliguri?
My  suggestion  is  -Start  from  Jalpaiguri-Bauxa-Mirik-Gangtok-New  Jalpaiguri  End.
Hope  you  will  rethink  on  it
 Regards
 Kaushik

Neil.....  please  go  through  the  detailed  map  of  North  Bengal,  before  you  finalize  anything.  It's  not  possible  to  cover  Boxa  Duar  and  Mirik  in  a  single  day.  They  are  far  away  from  each  other.  And  pick  up  the  ambush  points  in  Sikkim  also  before  hand  and  get  the  rout  map.
