 Hi  All,

How  does  one  become  a  member  of  ASK?
Is  it  necessary  to  be  a  citizen  of  bangalore??
Is  there  a  similar  setup  in  Mumbai?

I  understand  that  a  lot  of  members  from  ASK  are  on  IAH.  If  yes,  can  u  please  mention  their  nick  names  on  IAH.

 Regards,
 Rama

I  don't  think  you  have  to  be  a  Bangalorean  to  be  a  member  of  ASK,  as  I  am  a  member(i  m  from  Delhi)
We  have  members  from  abroad  also.
 Dolphy,  Madan  are  from  ASK.
You  need  to  write  to  the  owner  of  the  group  to  become  a  member.
 a-s-k-owner  [at]  yahoogroups  [dot]  com

Just  write  to  the  owner  and  you  should  be  accepted  as  a  member.  The  group  has  one  great  thing,  it  improves  the  way  we  type.  I  mean  punctuation,  organisation  of  ideas  is  a  must.
 All  the  best

 Hi  Rama,
There  are  three  types  of  membership  at  the  Aquarist  Society  of  Karnataka.  Annual,  life  time  and  Donor  member.  You  have  to  fill  up  the  prescribed  forms  and  pay  the  fees.  We  now  have  a  photo  I.D  card  for  members.  We  are  a  close  knit  group  and  try  to  help  fellow  hobbyists.  We  also  come  out  with  a  quarterly  magazine,  Infoaquaria.  Horward  Norfolk  of  Aquaarticles,  Canada  and  Tony  Pinto  contributor  to  TFH,  U.S.A  are  a  few  of  our  Videshi  members.  We  have  members  from  all  over  and  the  main  thing  that  binds  us  is  the  love  for  our  hobby.  We  are  centrally  located  at  the  ground  floor  of  the  Goverment  Aquarium,  Cubbon  Park,  Bangalore.  The  Minister  of  Fisheries(Karnataka)  is  the  patron  and  the  Director  of  Fisheries(Karnataka)  is  the  President.

 Hello  Puniet,

The  yahoogroups  A-s-k,  and  ASK  are  completely  different.
a-s-k  [at]  yahoogroups  [dot]  com  is  a  internet  mailing  list.
Where  as  Aquarists  Society  of  Karnataka  (ASK)  is  a  club  or  hobbyists  association  in  Bangalore.
 Both  are  distinctly  different.

There  is  no  difference  between  a  life  and  donor  member.  Both  have  the  same  rights  and  privileges.

A  donor  member  contributes  an  increased  amount  to  the  kitty  for  improving  the  association's  finances.

You  can  PM  the  Hon.  Secretary  Mr.  Trevor  Menezes,  "trevor"  on  IAH  for  the  application  forms  etc.,

 Hi  All:

ASK  is  shortly  coming  up  with  a  website  of  our  own...
 www.theask.org

(It  won't  function  as  the  IAH  forum  though...)
We  plan  to  include  member  registration  forms,  details  of  membership,  membership  acceptance,  FAQ,  etc.,  to  be  made  available  online  there...

 For  ASK,

From  outside  i  presume  ASK  is  a  success.

Why  didn't  this  branch  out  to  the  other  states.  I  agree  not  all  states  have  state  run  aquariums  in  heart  of  the  city  to  support  a  society.

You  don't  need  state  run  aquariums  to  sponsor  a  society...all  it  takes  is  a  group  of  like  minded  individuals.  I  guess  the  hardest  part  is  getting  people  together...

Even  on  IAH,  the  majority  of  regular  posters  seem  to  be  from  Karnataka  and  TN...must  be  something  in  the  water      Very Happy

 Hi  Rahul,
In  the  case  of  Karnataka  you  got  it  all  wrong.  Here  the  hobbyist  helps  the  state  run  aquarium.  It  may  though  be  in  a  small  way.  We've  done  the  complete  filtration  system  at  cost  for  the  state  run  Aquarium.

We've  set  up  for  them  six  complete  tanks  of  which  two  are  planted  complete  with  Co2  cylinder,  substrate,  plants,  driftwood,  fishes,  filters  the  works  -  All  free.

A  lot  of  time  and  money  is  contributed  by  individual  member  hobbyists  from  ASK  in  Bangalore.  A  lot  of  fish  is  often  donated.  Less  than  a  month  back  a  lady  member  donated  three  huge  arrowanas  which  outgrew  her  tank  to  the  Govt.  Aquarium.

And  the  Govt.  owes  quite  a  bit  of  money  to  the  society  for  fishes  and  medicines  purchased  which  of  course  they  will  eventually  pay  in  they  own  time.

Only  last  Sunday  Jennifer  wanted  to  go  up  with  her  pals  and  clean  the  (Govt)  Aquariums.  That  is  while  there  are  twenty  six  guys  on  the  state  payroll  who  hang  around  doing  nothing.  The  more  important  ones  read  the  newspaper  while  the  lesser  ones  sip  chai  and  puff  away  gossiping.

The  state  run  aquarium  needs  the  hobbyist  and  the  society.    No  hobbyist  or  society  needs  or  will  ever  need  any  state  run  aquarium.

I  was  about  to  draw  a  symbiotic  analogy  from  what  Trevor  had  writen  when  I  realised  that  it  was  a  parasitic  association,  where  the  ASK  society  is  the  host.

I  get  a  thrill  cleaning  other  people's  fish  poop.  That's  all.      And  Trevor...  all  my  ASK  buddies  including  you  were  supposed  to  pitch  in  with  me.

I  honestly  didn't  know  that  26    Shocked  people  were  employed  there!!
