 Hi,
This  is  a  free  country.  Everything  is  available  at  a  price  on  advance  order.  That  includes  fish,  plants  and  all  types  of  substrate.

The  best  substrate  Laterite  is  freely  available  in  front  of  most  of  our  houses  in  this  tropical  country.

Its  exported  from  here  and  Sri  Lanka.

If  you  need  the  foreign  returned  laterite  in  a  fancy  pack  be  prepared  to  shell  out  Rs.400/-  for  half  a  Kg.

Amitava  None  of  the  substrates  like  fluorite  are  readily  available  in  India.  They  can  be  got  on  order  from  some  importers.

We  may  not  be  able  to  directly  order  it  from  Seachem  as  our  order  will  be  small.  I  can  try  and  get  it  from  friends  in  Singapore  at  a  wholesale  price.

Check  out  their  website  and  decide  on  the  amount  you  want  and  then  a  price  can  be  fixed.  One  bag  of  fluorite  will  cost  more  per  bag  than  a  consignment  of  10  bags  as  the  transportation  cost  etc.,  will  be  spread  out.

It  may  take  a  while  for  the  order  to  materialise  though.  I  would  be  game  to  join  in  and  order  some  fluorite,  but  there  are  two  kinds  Fluorite  red  and  Fluorite  black.  Can't  decide  on  which  one  to  use  or  should  I  try  both.

Actually  spelled  FLOURITE  in  case  someone  wants  to  search  the  net.

I  am  using  Flourite  RED  for  the  past  4  years.(http://www.bigalsonline.com/catalog/product.xml?product_id=28675;category_id=3145).  When  I  moved  from  the  US  my  Flourite  also  moved  with  me.  bigalsonline.com  ia  a  well  known  company  among  acuatic  community  for  their  service  (my  opinion)  and  you  can  contact  them  if  they  could  ship  for  you.  Another  very  good  substrate  is  Seachem  ONYX.  Onyx  will  act  as  an  excellent  buffer  in  case  your's  is  a  soft  water.  But  Fourite  wont  change  your  water  pH.

BTW  if  you  are  interested  in  setting  up  a  dealership  for  Seachem  ..  Contact  them  directly  as  they  are  looking  for  somebody  in  India.

If  you  order  then  order  for  me  also.  I  wrote  a  mail  to  seachem  some  time  back  ,  they  told  me  that  for  a  4'/1.5'/1.5'  tank,  9-10  bags  of  flourite  is  ok.

Now  what  will  be  the  approx  cost?  Pls.  find  out  from  your  friends.
I  want  to  use  the  flourite  red.

 Trevor,

I  am  using  laterite  only.  the  problem  is  that  if  anytime  I  want  to  make  the  setup  again  from  scratch  then  it  is  a  painful  headache.

 Hi  Amitava,
Once  you  set  up  a  planted  tank  with  the  correct  substrate  it  runs  for  a  couple  of  years.

You  do  not  go  tearing  it  down  and  resetting  it  for  quite  sometime.

With  the  laterite  substrate  and  if  you  provide  the  other  required  essentials  in  the  right  quantity  keeping  fast  growing  stem  plants  actually  becomes  a  pain  as  you  constantly  have  to  trim  them.

The  red/black  flourite  and  Sea  chem  Onyx  may  be  a  good  thing.

Many  planted  guys/LFS  from  Bangalore  said  they  would  get/import  it  when  they  went  abroad  but  never  did.

I  figure  its  not  worth  the  cost  and  the  logistics  involved  and  maybe  they  found  better  things  to  import  with  less  ease.

That's  why  unless  there  is  a  confirmed  order  no  importer/LFS  will  stock  it.

 dear  amitava
i  am  also  interested  to  get  some  flourite.if  someone  is  arranging  it  we  may  do  it  together.
how  much  will  flourite  cost  approximately  per  kg?    .
can  we  have  a  comparative  study  of  both  laterite  and  flourite?
     will  anyone  take  the  trouble?

   thanks

I  bought  this  current  Flourite  during  1999-2000.  I  am  getting  excellent  growth  and  I  dont  use  any  sbstrate  fertilizers.  I  am  in  this  planted  tank  hobby  for  the  passt  6  to  7  years  and  I  am  satisfied  and  this  is  the  reason  I  shipped  my  Flourite  along  with  my  household  articles  from  the  US.

The  owner  of  this  shop  is  not  very  friendly  kind.  Visited  his  shop  a  couple  of  times.  First  of  all  he  is  not  available  in  the  shop  until  6:30  pm,  the  people  who  manage  the  shop  are  not  rich  with  knowledge.  And  if  you  talk  directly  to  him,  he  is  kind  of  snob.
