Had  a  tank  with  me  and  a  boring  Saturday  morning.
So  thought  of  trying  my  hand  at  a  semi-planted  setup  which  would  help  me  enter  the  AGA  contest  ROFL

Actually  this  was  understand  the  nuances  before  going  in  for  a  larger  native  planted  setup  later  Smile

 Specs  -
    Dimensions  -  1.5'  L  x  1'  B  x  1'  H
Substrate  -  2-3mm  sand  from  Karthik,  used  it  with  one  wash.
Filtration  -  none  yet,  planning  to  add  an  air-driven  corner  filter
Flora  -  Egeria  densa,  Some  narrow  leaved  Val  and  a  lone  Anubias  taken  from  Vyas  Smile
Fauna  -  4  Aplocheilus  panchax,  planning  to  move  the  Channa  Sp.  Assam  fry  in  there  for  a  few  weeks  a  week  later.
    Lighting  -  1x18W  CFL

Will  be  keeping  this  as  a  completely  low-tech  tank.

A  few  pics  from  day  1

Hoping  this  turns  out  good-ish  for  me  to  take  interest  Very Happy

 Cheers,

*Edit:  Made  the  subject  line  better  Smile

Nice  start...  The  driftwood  is  perfect.  Though  I  personally  would  go  for  either  the  rock  or  the  driftwood.  Both  together  are  conflicting  each  other.   Also  try  shifting  the  driftwood  a  bit  towards  the  right  ...  not  plonk  in  the  center.

Also  if  you  do  decide  to  use  rocks  too,  try  going  for  smaller  ones...

 Thanks  Tirth  and  Pree  Smile

 @Tirth,
Yeah  sort  of  the  first  "planned"  setup.  Had  a  planted  one  (or  so  I  called  it..hehe)  running  earlier  which  "melted"  when  I  was  away  on  assignment  Sad

 @Pree,
Agree  on  sticking  to  either  the  rock  or  wood  theme,  did  not  have  enough  of  either  of  these.  And  with  the  empty  space  on  the  right,  added  the  only  interesting  shaped  rock  I  had  Smile
Have  a  long  way  to  go  when  it  comes  to  scaping..  in  fact  not  started  as  yet  Very Happy

 Cheers,

If  you  really  ask  me  it  looks  great.  The  balance  is  great  ,  if  the  rock  had  more  textures  it  might  have  looked  better  ,but   if  you  ask  me  it  really  looks  natural  (  which  i  think  is  great  )

Just  keep  it  as  as  ,  add  some  plants  ..  great  show

Hey  Hayath  -  Welcome  Onboard  to  the  world  of  planted  aquariums,

The  startup  looks  good.....go  in  for  some  Moss  on  the  wood.  Also  some  light  colored  regular  gravel  for  the  surface,  will  give  good  contrast  to  the  driftwood  and  highlight  it  as  well.

All  the  best  Buddy   Thumb Up

Thanks  a  bunch  Vijay,  Lawrence,  natbox,  Ranjit,  Seetharam,  Ajay  and  Tabrez  Smile

As  per  the  suggestions,  will  remove  the  large  rock  from  the  right  and  place  some  moss-covered  smaller  stones.

 Seetharam,
Way  too  lazy  buds  to  strip  down  and  start  again  Razz

 Ajay,
   Welcome  anytime  buds  Smile

 Tabrez,
This  would  be  my  second  Very Happy

The  water's  cleared  up  considerably,  added  the  Channa  sp.  Assam  babies,  some  shots  Smile

 The  tank  now

The  Juveniles  are  starting  to  colour  up  real  nice  now

Though  blurred  out,  gives  the  sense  of  colours  and  form  these  beauties  are  gaining

 Cheers,

looks  awesome...  can't  believe  it  is  just  1.5',  probably  because  of  the  depth  you  get  with  the  combination  of  driftwood  and  stone.   I  would  suggest  you  stick  to  this.

Nice  layout.  Should  look  better  with  more  densely  planted  rear  side,  IMO.   Smile
