See  this  thread,  the  moderator  has  posted  the  suspect  photographs  again  as  a  link,  download  all  5  and  look  for  the  difference.  Apparently  he's  written  to  ADA  about  this,  let's  wait  for  the  verdict

I  wonder  how  someone  could  be  so  foolish  as  uploading  photoshopped  pics  and  then  submitting  the  same  for  a  contest.

 The  internet  is  unforgiving.

Madan,  No  ones  actually  knows  which  photos  Maurice  Cheng  actually  submitted  to  ADA  IAPLC  2008.  But  on  the  other  note  why  spend  so  much  time  on  photo-shopping  if  it  is  not  going  to  be  used?
We  will  probably  have  to  wait  till  ADA  publishes  the  2008  Contest  book.  Hope  he  has  not  cheated.  That  would  really  be  shameful.

 Thanks
 Bhushan

I  was  about  to  post  the  topic  here.  It's  disturbing  to  see  these  kind  of  cheating.

This  Kookaburra  guy  is  running  behind  that  man  for  a  long  time.  The  culprit  already  has  deleted  the  pictures  from  Photo  bucket.  Kookaburra  has  all  the  photos  in  his  Hard  Drive  and  he  is  supposed  to  upload  them  all  shortly.

The  logic  given  by  zenscape  is  amazingly  pathetic.

Bhusan,  I  got  the  chance  to  look  at  those  photos  before  zenscape  deleted  that.  All  of  them  were  photoshoped.  We  all  will  be  confused  to  identify  the  actual  tank  among  those  photographs.  If  any  of  those  went  for  the  contest,  thats  cheating.

The  photo's  have  been  uploaded  at  another  site,  by  the  mod.  The  links  are  on  page  2.  Download  all  five  and  compare.  I  compared  all  5,  it's  good  PS  work.

I  know  of  another  guy  who  did  a  lot  of  PS  and  won  at  the  AGA  way  back  in  1999  or  2000.  Couldn't  prove  anything  as  he  was  careful  not  to  upload  a  single  picture  on  the  internet.

I  think  they  need  to  go  a  bit  into  old  age.  Instead  of  accepting  digital  images,  they  should  accept  only  negatives.  (remember  rolls  ?  before  digi  stuff  came  in).  IMHO,  it  will  be  almost  impossible  to  fake  that.

ADA  started  off  by  only  accepting  slide  film,  positives  not  even  negatives.  I  sent  my  entry  in  2001  as  a  Slide  Film  properly  mounted  along  with  a  8  x  10  print  of  the  same  slide.

Now  a  days  with  processing  of  films,  slide  films  etc  becoming  very  difficult  and  rare  to  find  they  switched  to  accepting  digital  images.  I  find  it  impossible  to  find  some  one  who  will  develop  negatives  now  a  days  forget  positives.  This  was  ofcourse  from  2003  onwards.

Then  RAW  format  was  practically  non  existent,  many  cameras  did  not  have  it,  but  I  think  now  they  must  amend  the  rules  and  accept  only  RAW  files.

Anyway  let  the  book  come  out  we  will  know  which  image  he  entered,  I  hope  it  was  not  a  souped  image,  but  reading  his  explanation,  where  he  claims  he  can  provide  his  hard  disk  to  ADA,  I  strongly  suspect  a  souped  image  was  sent  as  the  entry.

Well  suspicion  is  just  that  suspicion.

That's  very  true  about  positives.  But  anything  digital,  even  RAW  files  can  be  manipulated.  Just  think  about  RAW  files  format,  I  gave  a  google  search,  and  the  first  link  is  :
 http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html

I  was  actually  amazed  to  read  the  explanation  below  (in  the  above  site):

 Digital  camera  raw  file  support

The  camera  raw  functionality  in  Adobe®  Photoshop®  software  provides  fast  and  easy  access  within  Photoshop  to  the  "raw"  image  formats  produced  by  many  leading  professional  and  midrange  digital  cameras.  By  working  with  these  "digital  negatives,"  you  can  achieve  the  results  you  want  with  greater  artistic  control  and  flexibility  while  still  maintaining  the  original  "raw"  files.

What  about  sending  multiple  entries  in  son,  daughter,  wife's  name.  Is  that  not  also  cheating.  You  have  to  post  only  one  entry.  Your  best  one  only  and  be  honest  to  yourself.

Rohit  you  can  achieve  a  lot  of  manipulation  with  RAW,  but  those  changes  are  not  permanent  until  you  convert  the  RAW  file  to  jpeg  or  TIFF  or  PSD.

Make  all  the  changes  you  want  with  the  RAW  file,  but  anyone  can  see  the  change  when  they  view  the  RAW  file  (after  manipulation)  and  bring  things  back  to  normal  as  shot.

Further  you  cannot  add  fish  and  plants  to  a  RAW  file  or  change  their  position.

Deepak  we  do  condone  people  with  poor  English  and  Grammer,  and  encourage  them  to  post  as  all  are  not  proficient  in  English,  but  having  read  many  of  your  posts  in  the  forum,  the  above  quote  is  simply  not  worth  commenting  on.  It  seems  you  are  bent  upon  ridiculing  members  on  IAH.

There  is  no  escaping  detection  if  you  are  using  technology,  There  will  always  be  ways  to  tell  that  the  image  has  been  altered.  Here  is  an  extract  from  a  article  on  what  happens  you  touch  up  an  image  with  photoshop

Because  .jpeg  is  a  compressed  file  format,  any  tampering  with  an  image  from  a  digital  camera  usually  results  in  the  .jpeg  image  being  twice-compressed:  once  by  the  camera,  and  once  by  Photoshop.  This  double-compression  leaves  tell-tale  artifacts  in  the  image  that  can  be  detected  through  the  use  of  advanced  algorithms.

Here  is  a  list  of  tampered  images
 http://www.cs.dartmouth.edu/farid/research/digitaltampering/
