 Hi  all,

I'm  setting  up  a  low  tech  planted  tank,  I've  been  planning  to  set  up  a  tank  like  this  for  a  long  time  now...  This  is  my  second  scape  (1st  one  EDEN  GARDEN)  hopefully  this  one  turns  out  as  an  healthy  good  lucking  tank,  need  your  help  and  guidence  as  i'm  very  new  to  this  hobby.

 Tank  Dimension:  30  x  15  x  15  (Inches)  -  111  Ltrs  /  29  US  Gallons

Substrate  :  Gravel  Picked  up  from  Karthik,  will  use  plastic  bowls  with  laterite  topped  with  gravel  for  planting

Filter.  HOB  (Dolphin  H  800)  with  a  flow  rate  of  800L/Hr

DIY  CO2  (not  yet  decided  how  to  disperce,  may  be  i'll  use  a  spare  powerhead  that  i  have  with  me

 Lights  :  2  x  36  PLL

Dosing  :  PMDD  (not  sure  when  to  start  dosing  or  if  i  really  should...  will  go  with  what  you  experts  say)

The  plants  :  Moss  (Java,  Christmas,  Flame)  Java  Fern,  Windelo  Fern,  Anubia.  Crypts  (not  sure  of  the  types)

Fish  :  Not  zero'd  on  anything  yet  but  was  thinking  of  Shrimps  (wood,  cherry,  ghost....  depends  on  the  availability)  Cardinal/Neon  tetras,  Cory's,  Otto's

 Decoration  :   http://img395.imageshack.us/my.php?image=photo0241pg0.jpg

After  a  lot  of  permutation  and  combination  came  up  with  this  hard  scape  (  http://img175.imageshack.us/my.php?image=photo0252gb5.jpg  )  what  do  you'll  think,  please  suggest  if  any  alterations  has  to  be  made?

 This  is  how  i  plan  to  plant/place  the  plants  (  http://img355.imageshack.us/my.php?image=plantscapevj5.jpg  )

 1  Moss
2  Crypts  (will  be  planted  in  plast  bowls  placed  under  gravel)
 3  Anubia
 4  Java  Fern
 5  Windelo  Fern
 ?  Not  Sure

Not  sure  what  plant  to  use  at  the  back  right  hand  corner  (?)  Can  i  go  with  Vals?   and  here's  a  rough  artistic  impression  of  the  finished  tank  that  i  have  in  mind  http://img369.imageshack.us/my.php?image=visionri0.jpg  what  do  you  guys  think?  I  want  this  tank  to  come  out  good  with  all  your  suggestions  and  guidence..

 Thanks
 Anthony  Samson

 Hi
 Just  my  two  cents  worth

What  is  low  tech  about  this?  Except  for  the  substrate  maybe?  Smile

At  15  Inches  the  tank  may  not  be  the  best  for  growing  Vals  in  it,  you  will  probably  need  more  height.
The  hardscape  looks  very  good  to  me.  I  am  sure  that  the  experienced  seniors  would  be  giving  you  more  inputs.

 Hi  Anthony,

Good  work  done  so  far,  the  hardscape  looks  good  and  also  your  detailed  plan  on  plant  placement  is  good.

You  can  also  use  flame  moss  either  on  the  right  or  left  which  will  give  you  a  very  bushy  effect.

 Cheers,
 Prem

 Hi
He  has  about  2.5WPG  right  now,  once  he  puts  in  the  substrate  the  total  water  volume  would  be  even  less.  Though  I  am  not  sure  how  the  plastic  trays  will  work  into  the  lighting  equation

 Hi  Samson
I  looked  at  Eden  Garden,  its  beutiful   Clapping

In  your  current  project  what  are  you  planning  to  place  the  Windelo  Fern  on?  My  impression  was  that  Windelo  Fern  has  to  be  attached  to  wood  or  rock?

Is  "variegated  polysperma"  same  as  "hygrophila  polysperma"....  I've  had  Hygrophila  polysperma  in  my  previous  scape,  very  beautiful  plant  and  less  demanding,  can  i  use  that  in  this  scape???

Is  the  light  that  i'm  using  too  much,  like  unni  mentioned  its  comes  up  to  2.5w/gal...  will  this  be  a  problem????  should  i  use  1  36W  PLL  and  1  18  W  2  feet  tube  (i  already  have  this  with  me)...  Experts  please  suggest

Help   Is  2  x  36W  pll  too  much  for  this  set  up...  should  i  go  for  1  x  36W  PLL  and  1  x  18W  tube  light...  I'm  worried  2.5w/gal  will  cause  algae  problem  because  of  the  slow  growing  plants....  my  hood  is  not  ready  yet,  hopefully  i  will  be  putting  it  to  gether  this  weekend,  need  suggestion  before  i  could  wire  it  up.      Plants  will  be  Anubia,  ferns  and  moss

 Thanks

In  my  opinion  one  36  Watt  PLL  should  suffice,  but  when  you  design  the  canopy  keep  a  provision  to  accomodate  another  36  Watt  PLL  or  18  Watt  PLL
