One  more  problem  i  am  facing  is  that  of  Ph.  Yesterday  i  tested  my  tap-water  and  found  it  to  have  a  Ph  of  around  9  !
   How  to  lower  ph  ?

Sandipan...  wish  you  all  the  best.  Kolkata  Tap  water  pH  not  at  all  so  high.  Just  change  the  test  kit  and  check  it  again.  It  should  not  be  more  than  7.5.

As  you  are  planning  to  keep  New  Worlds,  try  to  put  as  many  as  Drift  wood  you  can.  It  will  lower  the  pH  and  will  give  the  fishes  a  natural  habitat.

And  already  you  know  that  Parrots  are  not  a  normal  specimens.  So  why  keeping  them?

Great  to  find  tirtha-da  replying  to  my  topic.
I  dont  exactly  stay  in  kolkata.  i  stay  in  a  place  called  Kalyani,  which  is  around  25  Kms  North  of  Kolkata.  And  yes  i  also  doubt  my  PH  test  kit.  I  think  i  should  buy  a  PH  test  kit  by  Tetra.

 regarding  parrots...
I  know  they  are  not  normal,  but  they  are  lovely  for  sure.  i  am  not  speaking  about  the  dyed  ones.  I  am  willing  to  keep  the  normal  ones.

Still  I  doubt.  pH  Â 9  is  really  something  very  high  in  West  Bengal.  Instead  of  spending  money  on  Test  Kit,  get  a  Digital  pH  meter.  One  time  investment  but  worth.  Check  out  with  ouR  very  own  KA  moderator  Indra.  He  will  be  able  to  tell  you  where  to  get  that.

From  where  do  you  get  your  water?  Co-orporation  or  Bore  well?

If  borewell,  its  quite  possible,  because  the  pH  of  our  bore  water  is  around  8.5

I  use  municipality  supplied  water.  Our  municipality  supplies  water  from  deep  tube  well.  Its  is  not  river  water.

My  new  tank  stand  is  almost  ready,  i  will  post  the  pictures  here,  in  a  few  days  time.  Since  the  stand  is  now  almost  ready,  i  have  to  think  of  the  tank  now.  As  i  have  said  i  am  going  for  a  5*2*2  tank,  i  need  to  know  a  few  things  about  constructing  it.

 1.  How  should  the  support  beams  be  placed?
 2.  At  exactly  which  points  should  i  make  provisions  for  filter  pipes?  I  mean  there  should  be  some  holes  in  the  support  beams,  so  that  i  can  easily  insert  the  air  tubes  and  filter  pipes.  Where  and  how?

 The  most  important  question:
In  case  i  think  of  converting  this  tank  in  to  a  marine  display  in  future,  should  i  have  some  special  feature  built  in  to  the  tank  now?  Should  there  be  any  special  construction  requirement  for  a  marine  tank?
Members  kindly  reply  to  my  questions.

 Hi  Sandipan,

There  is  truly  no  special  arrangement  as  far  as  the  tank  goes.  What  you  may  need  however  is  special  arrangement  in  your  Hood  for  better  lights  may  be  MH  for  marine,  a  better  way  to  ensure  u  take  the  heat  away  from  the  lights.  Incase  you  plan  for  a  sump  based  marine  setup  them  how  would  u  want  to  work  your  overflow  if  drilled  then  it  needs  to  be  modified  accordingly.  Also  if  space  is  too  tight  in  a  marine  you  would  need  space  for  a  protein  skimmer  if  you  go  for  an  hang  on  type  etc  etc.

However  all  the  above  modifications  can  be  done  on  a  need  basis  when  u  plan  to  start  the  marine.  At  this  point  i  wouldnt  suggest  anything  major.

 Cheers
 nirav

 Hi  Sandipan,

First,  sorry  for  late  reply,  because  my  home  broadband  is  not  working  due  to  some  Tata  Indicom  Technical  problem  from  5  days.  I  am  replying  from  my  office.

Don't  ask  me  about  Blood  Parrot  companion(just  kidding,  because  you'll  not  believe,  what  I  keep).  I  have  a  mixed  setup,  which  is  generally  not  believe  to  keep.

You  can  keep  following  fish  with  Blood  Parrot.

 1.  Golden/Green  Severum  (  I  like  these  beauties)  specially  when  they  are  fully  grown
 2.  Green  Terror  (  look  elegant  when  it  is  around  1  and  half  year  old)
 3.  Texas  (  You  can  select  from  Silver,  Green,  Red).  Red  are  little  rair  and  expensive(as  they  are  hybrid  and  new  to  world)
 4.  Midas  cichlid
 5.  1  Plecostomous(  Tank  cleaner)
I'll  recommend  you  to  purchase  juvenile.  Because  I  found  old  are  less  compatible  in  comparision  to  juvenile.  i.e  If  you  have  Green  Terror,  which  kept  in  alone  or  with  same  species  from  starting.  It  attack  other  species.  It  attack  on  my  hand  also.

Blood  Parrot  is  an  intelligent  fish  and  behave  according  to  other  fish.  It  want  to  fight  with  Texas,  because  Texas  is  aggressive.  But  never  attack  on  my  C.  Moori(as  I  told  you,  don't  ask  what  I  keep  with  them),  which  is  a  calm  fish.  I  have  a  pair  of  Blood  Parrot.  If  my  Texas  is  winning  that  fight  round  then  both  Blood  Parrot  synchronize  their  attack  and  attack  simultaneously  and  win  that  round.  They  even  attack  8"  Grren  Terror(always  simultaneously)  even  they  are  only  4"  in  size.

They  are  intelligent  fish.  They  never  attack,  but  protect  their  cave  from  other.  They  are  very  peaceful  away  from  their  cave.  I'll  always  recommend  to  keep  these  beauties.

 Dear  Sandipan
So  everything's  in  right  place  and  aquaring  Eheim  is  a  good  sign.Nothing  special  about  Marine  &   freshwater  tanks.  The   only  difference  is  Robust  canopy  and  adhering   sump  Tanks  for  marine  set  ups.I  will  suggest  you  to  make  a  2cm  dia.  holes  in  one  corner  of  your  proposed  tanks  braces,  so  that  the  inlet  of  Ehiems  can  fitted  best  and  not  looks  odd  at  the  centre.Use  special  quality  Dow  corning  and  Walker  silicone  and  not  the  GP  type.  Thumb Up
 Regards
 Kaushik

Thank  you  darvin  for  your  very  informative  reply.  In  that  regard  i  would  like  to  ask  what  is  the  size  of  the  tank  which  you  were  talking  about?  also  i  am  really  curious  to  know  the  combination  of  fishes  you  keep.

 @  Kaushik-da
thank  you  so  much.  i  will  keep  your  advice  in  mind.  And  yes  am  using  walker  silicone  to  paste  the  glasses.

Hoping  that  everything  works  out  fine.  Actually  i  am  doing  everything  very  slowly.  As  i  dont  want  to  make  all  those  horrible  mistakes  that  i  did  in  my  earlier  two  tanks.  Also  this  time  i  am  using  all  high  quality  products  to  build  my  dream  setup.
