 !.  Live  food
 2.  Crystal  clear  water
 3.  Lots  of  plants
 4.  Good  lighting
 5.  CO2
 6.  Lots  of  caves
 7.  Driftwood

All  the  above  did  not  matter  at  all   Cheering   ROFL   ROFL

Mollies  and  guppies  were  pregnant  in  just  a  couple  of  days  of  getting  them  and  they  were  giving  birth  like  machines,  lost  most  as  the  fry  tank  was  not  maintained  or  were  left  in  the  community  tank.

Now  kribs  were  a  different  story...

Searched  around  for  my  first  cichlid  and  found  the  kribs  to  be  very  less  demanding.  Looked  around  the  shops  and  could  get  just  one  Male  from  a  shop  in  Bangalore.

Then  waited  for  about  a  month  and  finally  found  that  Karthik  had  a  female  and  thanks  to  him   Rock On

Added  a  couple  of  coconut  shells  into  the  tank  to  act  like  caves  and  thats  it.  Fed  them  freeze  dried  blood  worms.  They  paired  off  immediately  and  found  the  female  digging  a  cave  in  just  2  days.

First  batch  was  about  50  and  I  had  them  in  the  tank  for  about  1  week  and  then  one  day  found  that  the  female  was  driving  the  male  away.  I  thought  it  was  some  kind  of  problem  and  so  siphoned  out  the  fry  into  a  tub  and  thats  where  they  have  been  for  the  last  one  month.  Feeding  them  microworms(thanks  to  sudfish),  crushed  tetrabits,  brine  cubes.

Just  a  month  after  I  siphoned  out  the  first  batch,  I  have  the  second  batch  Very Happy  another  50  or  so....  Surprised

Usually  nothing  great  except  swordtail,  platy,  guppies  and  mollies.

How  did  I  breed?  Just  kept  a  pair  in  the  tank!  Very  limited  knowledge  and  food  availability  (12  years   ago).

Separated  in  a  tumbler/small  tank  with  10  inch  water.  Fed  live  food.  Put  the  mother  in  a  white  large  size  netted  cloth  clipped  to  the  sides.  so  that  the  fry  can  escape  to  the  bottom.  Thats  all.
And  fed  the  fry  egg  yolk  crushed  in  water.

Only  once  bred  a  betta.  Two  females  got  killed  overnight  on  consecutive  days.  Third  one  was  dying  in  front  of  my  eyes  even  as  the  male  was  attempting  to  spawn  (and  attack  it  at  the  same  time).  When  it  reached  its  end,  I  pressed  its  tummy  gently  and  hey  -  the  eggs  came  out!  The  male  immediately  put  it  in  the  bubbled  nest  built  under  vallisneria  in  5  inch  water.

Many  fries  were  eaten  by  the  male  before  I  realized!  Many  died  as  I  could  not  offer  proper  food.  Could  save  only  8  and  gave  them  away  when  they  were  1  inch  long.

edit:  17  years  ago  to  be  precise!

 Had  success  with

Guppies,  Mollies  (Black  and  White),  Swordtail,  Platy,  Betta  and  Goldies

 Had  failures  with

Zebra  -  Had  accidental  fry,  couldn't  grow  them  to  a  decent  size  due  to  lack  of  knowledge.
Gouramies  -  Got  a  pair  from  my  cousing  and  they  bred  in  10  days  in  my  tank.   Couldn't  raise  the  fry  to  a  decent  size  due  to  lack  to  time.
Angels  -  Never  got  a  fry  from  the  only  pair  I  had.   They  did  laid  eggs  every  10  days  for  about  8  times  before  I  gave  up  with  the  pair.
