 Hi  .
I  have  retired  my  4  ft  planted  tank  recently.
It  is  now  lying  ready  to  take  a  new  fish  load  !

 The  setup  is  as  follows
 4  X  1.5  X  1.5  tank.
 2-3  inches  gravel  (  quartz)
 Lot  of  driftwood.
 Filteration:  Eheim  2217  .
Can  add  another  powerhead  for  additional  water  circulation  if  needed.
It  wil  be  a  fish  only  tank.

 Now,
I  plan  to  add  60  neon  tetras  to  the  tank.
I  also  plan  to  add  some  corys  eventually  for  the  bottom  layer.
Will  that  be  too  much  ?  Considering  the  bio  load  as  well  as  the  asthetics  ?

 Edit:
Edited  the  subject  to  restrict  the  discussion  to  neons  tetras  alone  Smile

That's  roughly  60  gallons...I  read  a  very  good  article  on  keeping  cardinal  tetras  sometime  agao.  There  the  writer  recommended  that  a  stocking  density  of  1  tetra  per  gallon  will  be  great  for  this  schooling  fish  as  it  makes  them  feel  secure.  Since  you  have  Eheim,  you  can  easily  add  the  same  IMHO...but  PLease  do  consider  cardinals,  instead  of  neons...I  know  they  are  a  bit  more  expensive...but  cardinals  are  hardy  and  may  live  longer....I  have  had  about  40  in  my  discsu  tank  for  almost  a  year  now  and  only  3-4  casualties...

BTW  Nautilus  has  cardinals  available  for  Rs  xx   a  piece.

 cheers

But  Mom  said,  No  flowerhorn  !  Crying or Very sad
 Just  kidding  !
No  FH  for  me  yet  !  :)

Actually  I  am  decided  on  the  fish.   It  will  be  neons.  I  am  just  confused  about  the  number.

 Rohan,

In  the  light  of  robustness  of  the  fishes,  cardinals  will  in  the  long  run  work  cheaper  than  neons.
 Just  my  experience  Smile

60  should  be  fine  !!  The  amount  of  waste  they  create  is  negligible  for  the  size  of  tank  and  filtration.

 Dear  Rohan
According  to  PFK  Stock  density  calculator  the  Cardinals  number  should  be  45  also  you  have  to  take  into  considerations  which  type  of  Cory's  you  want  to  keep,  If  Panda  type  little  cute  one  then  it  would  be  fine.
 Regards
 Kaushik

IMO,  60  Neons  will  be  awesome  in  that  tank.  I  would  request  you  to  make  it  a  single  species  tank.  I  think  the  corries  ruin  the  effect  of  the  synchronised  horizontal  movements  of  the  Neons  by  their  whimsical  nature,  plus  they  come  vertically  up  to  the  surface  to  breath  air.  Very  annoying  for  me,  but  I  love  them,  little  corries.

For  bottom  cleaning,  you  can  go  for  Cherry  reds,  buy  some  10  or  even  less  and  they  will  be  50  in  6  months  time.  But  you  need  to  keep  your  tank  heavily  planted  for  their  protection.

 Or

You  can  have  the  Neon  only,  with  measured  feeding  you  will  not  have  much  muck  and  you  can  vacuum  clean  it  once  a  fortnight.  I  think  this  is  the  best  idea.

Anyway,  I  heavily  planted  tank  with  60  Neons  will  look  stunning,  IMHO.

 Hi  Rohan

I  would  say  go  with  40  -  50  Neon  Tetras.  Do  post  a  picture  once  the  tank  is  ready   Smile

Your  can  easily  add  60  neons  in  that  tank  size,  the  Bioload  of  60neons  will  be  less  than  a  12"  flowerhorn.
IMO,  go  for  a  Amazon  blackwater  biotope  tank,  you  do  have  a  lot  of  driftwood  with  you,  just  add  a  lot  of  Sword  plants  and  cobbles  of  various  sizes,  will  look  great.  A  bunch  of  cories  will  liven  up  your  bottom  for  sure.  BTW  if  you  are  planning  of  neons  with  your  Angels,  then  its  a  bad  idea,  angels  are  very  good  predators.

Thank  you  all  for  your  suggestions.
Unfortunately  I  have  already  ordered  the  neons  so  I  am  not  sure  If  I  can  change  it  now.
 Let  me  try  though.

Do  you  think  I  should  add  heater  to  the  tank  ?  I  heard  neons  do  not  appreciate  temperature  fluctuations.

 Thanks  again.
Will  surely  post  pics  once  it  is  worth  show  casing:)

 Mostly  not.
Even  if  I  do,  upgrading  from  Neons  to  Cardinals  will  only  improve  the  visual  appeal.

 He  he  just  kiddin  Rohan..

But  I  do  not  find  much  difference  in  Neons  and  Cardinals,  really,  may  be  my  eyes  are  weak  but  I  think  they  are  just  hyped  for  a  much  bigger  price..
