 Hi  all,

Please  id  and  comment  on  this  beauty.

Not  sure  if  its  an  Amazon  or  Brazilian  or  Ceylon  Puffer.

Need  to  also  know  if  anyone  in  Bangalore  can  provide  Trumpet  or  any  other  small  snails.

 regards

 Dan

 Tetraodon  fluviatilis

An  interesting  fish,  requires  brackish  water  and  meaty  foods.  Aggressive,  so  don't  keep  it  with  anything  you  consider  valuable.  Smile
Shrimp,  crab  meat  and  snails  would  be  fine  as  a  diet,  i  think  they  do  need  some  greens  as  well.
There  was  a  post  on  this  species  sometime  back  on  the  forums,  you  could  dig  that  out,  has  some  good  info.

 Hi  Neil,

checked  the  previous  archives  nothing  interesting/new  on  this,  its  a  ceylon
 puffer  seems  like  ???

The  posts  say  these  need  species  only  tank,  but  i  have  had  him  for  over  a  month  now  and
all  settled  well  and  happy  with  cichlid  mates  and  no  nipping/biting/fighting  etc  etc,

Always  seen  him  swimming  around  and  eats  of  hand,  his  teeth  are  sharp  though...

need  to  give  him  a  dental  treatment  in  another  2  weeks  time.

pretty  cool  temprament  and  no  issues  with  him  yet.

 regards

 Dan

 Hi,
I  strongly  feel  its  Tetraodon  fluviatilis  or  in  other  words  called  green  puffer.
 check  http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/fish/greenpuffer.php  for  more  information.

 Hi  Dan,
I  had  a  couple  of  them  and  gave  away  one  of  them  since  I  was  advised  it  is  better  to  keep  these  as  solitary  creatures.
On  Rahul's  (retro_gk)  advise  I  have  been  feeding  them  market  prawns, snails, crab  legs  etc  and  it  seems  to  love  the  food.Recently  it  has  started  to  take  even  chicken  heart  but  shrimps  &  snails  are  it's  favorite.
I  have  started  a  snail  culture  in  my  outdoor  planted  tubs  since  I  was  told  shell  foods  are  required  keep  a  check  on  the  ever  growing  teeth  of  this  fish.Just  tossed  in  some  snails  I  got  from  my  planted  tank  friends  and  they  are  breeding  like  bunnies  now.
I'm  keeping  the  fish  in  a  2'x1'x1'  tank  with  1500  TDS  hard  water(bore  water)  added  with  20  gms  of  rock  salt  +  6  gms  of  epsom  salt/litre  as  suggested  by  madhu(madhu_ulysses)  and  so  far  it  seems  to  be  healthy  and  beg  for  food  when  I  approach  the  tank.
I  would  suggest  you  to  keep  the  tank  well  covered  since  these  are  very  good  jumpers  when  frightened.  Be  careful  while  netting  them  out  if  you  need  to.
