I  got  this  new  4  feeter  made   with  8  mm  glass  by  my  LFS  guy  (I  am  not  confident  enough  to  venture  on  such  a  big  tank  by  myself)

Now,  on  the  1st  day  itself  ,  both  the  lengthwise  support  glasses  have  cracked(the  cracks  are  around  the  middle  of  the  tank)  as  there  were  some  wear  and  tear  on  these  two  pieces.  Now

What  to  do?  The  LFS  guy  will  put  another  support  over  each  one  today  ,  is  that  Ok?

 Experts  please  help  here...

I  am  keeping  everyone  away  from  the  vicinity  of  this  tank  for  now.

For  a  tank  that  length  and  height,  10mm  is  far  better  than  8.

Thanks  Rahul...  I  got  what  you  are  saying.
But,  would  it  help  to  put  another  support  on  each  of  the  cracked  support  glasses?

Do  you  think  it  will  be  unsafe  on  the  long  run?

Personally,  I  would  not  fill  that  tank  with  water.

With  10mm  or  12mm  glass  is  bottom  support  really  necessary?  What  purpose  does  the  bottom  support  does?  We  already  have  the  side  glasses  sitting  on  the  bottom!  Why  is  the  need  for  extra  support?

Go  for  10mm  minimum.  Speaking  from  experience.  Had  a  4x2x2  with  8mm  glass  burst  in  my  living  room.

 Antu,

Your  size  is  possible  with  8  mm  if  the  support  braces  are  perfect.

This  is  the  sort  of  bracing  you  will  need,  with  8  mm  glass  strips  that  are  2  or  2.5  inches  wide.  If  you  can  have  the  same  bracing  repeated  in  the  bottom  of  your  tank,  you  will  be  really  safe.

Another  main  aspect  to  look  into  would  be  your  base.  If  there  is  an  area  in  your  tank  stand  thats  weak,  thats  disaster!

 Hope  that  helps.

Guys,  thanks  a  lot  for  the  replies...I  really  needed  the  help.

 Nytyn,
I  have  braces  on  the  bottom  of  the  tank  and  at  the  top  except  for  the  brace  in  the  middle..  I  shall  put  that  too.

I  have  a  tank  48  x  15  x  15,  the  front  and  side  glasses  are  6mm  and  the  bottom  is  8mm,  got  this  done  about  2  years  back  and  no  supporting  braces,  still  holding  good,i  do  get  a  bulge  in  the  middle  of  the  tank  but  i  have  never  tried  to  fill  the  tank  to  the  brim.....
Have  had  some  of  the  biggest  fishes  of  over  10"  in  that  tank  for  the  last  2  years....no  issues  so  far.  But  i  think  for  your  tank  dimensions  8  mm  glass  would  suffice  with  side  bracings.

What  is  the  dimension  of  ADA  120  P?
whats  the  thickness  of  those  glasses?

I've  not  seen  the  top  braces  on  120P.

Water  pressure  is  highest  at  the  bottom  of  the  tank  and  the  lowest  at  the  top.  So  it  exerts  more  force  at  the  bottom  glass  and  the  sides  at  the  bottom.  Hence  supports  come  in  handy.

Empty  your  tank.  Remove  the  cracked  supports.  Clean  the  silicone  off  and  add  the  new  supports.
