 Well

I  must  admit  that  recession  is  more  a  sentiment  issue  than  anything  else.  The  negative  side  is  that  you  would  like  to  postpone  stripping  of  tanks  and  creating  new  ones...

The  positive  side  is  that  work  is  not  so  hectic  and  hence  you  might  have  more  time  time  .

The  sad  part  is  when  you  have  the  money  there  is  no  time  and  when  you  have  the  time  ,  there  is  no  money...

Have  heard  things  getting  dearer  back  home  but  dont  know  if  that  would  have  affected  my  hobby  as  such.  Thats  why  all  of  us  should  try  and  breed  whatever  we  keep,  that  way  your  hobby  gets  pretty  much  self  sustained.  But  here  in  the  UK  its  pretty  bad  as  well,  1.5  million  people  have  lost  jobs  in  the  last  3  months  and  another  1.5  million  will  lose  jobs  in  the  next  2  months.  But  somehow  my  tanks  seem  to  be  increasing.

As  for  the  comparison  of  the  stock  market,i  really  dont  think  you  can  say  anything  with  that.  Markets  fall  for  no  reason.  Most  of  the  people  or  rather  only  people  who  lose  money  are  small  investors  because  people  do  not  do  enough  research.  But  i  hope  everyone  can  come  out  of  this  so  called  recession  unscathed.   Drinking

Good  to  see  so  many  people  who  have  not  been  affected  by  the  damn  recession.  But  at  the  same  time,  huge  number  of  people  have  been  hit  very  badly  by  it.  As  per  ET,  India  inc  will  shed  25%  of  work  force  in  ten  days  starting  day  before  yesterday.  America  is  on  its  knees  with  almost  80%  of  the  population  being  hit,  there  is  nothing  called  investment  banking  in  a  country  like  America,  right  now.  2  NRI  Indian  have  shot  their  families  and  have  committed  suicide.  We  do  not  know  how  many  Americans  have  done  the  same.

Situation  is  very  grim  for  us,  so  please  pray  for  the  people  who  have  lost  their  jobs  at  no  fault  of  theirs  and  also  for  people  who  are  struggling  to  keep  their  jobs  safe.  Some  one  came  to  me  day  before  yesterday,  who  is  a  victim  of  the  recession.  He  has  three  kids,  all  school  going  and  the  notice  period  given  to  him  by  his  organisation  is  coming  to  an  end  in  a  weeks  time.  He  does  not  have  any  other  job  at  hand  and  is  the  only  earning  member  of  his  family.

Not  much  effect.  Never  invested  heavily  in  stock  market.
Pink  slip  culture  has  not  been  very  prevalent  in  India,  however  things  seem  to  be  changing.
The  most  effected  industries  are  "sunrise  Industries",  Investment  banking,  airlines,  BPO,  IT  (to  some  extent).
Manufacturing  sector  has  not  had  it  so  bad.

 Sandeep,

 I  wish  it  were  so.

I  have  got  4  tons  of  steel  in  my  factory  which  was  procured  for  Suzuki  car  parts  in  Europe  and  order  was  put  on  hold.
I  had  60  people  in  my  factory  in  September  and  now  I  have  around  30.  No  new  recruitments.

There  will  be  a  cascading  effect.  People  who  have  lost  on  stocks  or  are  in  danger  of  being  pink  slipped  will  not  buy  cars  or  bikes  or  Tv's  etc  etc.  This  will  definetely  effect  manufacturing  sector.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

Lets  pray  for  all.  However,  I  think  the  4  state  elections  and  Lokshabha  election  are  at  the   Doorstep,  So  the  Political  Decisions  will  be  not  staright.  AND  if  the  2009  Lokshabha  elections  formed  a  qualition  Govt(  irk.  Banana)tehn  there  will  be  no  job  cuts.

Elections  can  do  nothing  to  job  cuts.  This  is  no  political  fantasy,  Kaushik.  The  politics  is  actually  ran  by  the  business  houses  and  the  business  is  at  risk  for  a  temporary  phase  due  to  some  stupid  shortsightedness  and  mismanagement  of  so  called  premiere  management  students  passed  out  of  some  of  the  most  elite  B  schools.  It  time  we  realise  that  B  schools  can  only  make  a  fool  presentable  and  not  a  visionary.  Leave  visionary  apart,  they  do  not  have  the  common  sense  of  a  middle  class  home  maker.  It  irates  me  to  no  end  that  these  bunch  of  fools  who  claim  and  portray  themselves  to  be  the  gurus  are  responsible  for  the  job  losses  of  millions.

They  are  not  fools,  but  extremly  greedy  which  is  worse,  a  fool  does  not  know  what  he  is  doing,  but  these  "experts"  always  know  the  consequences  of  their  deeds.
Whether  it  is  individuals  or  corporations,  extreme  greed  is  responsible  for  this  situation.
Banks  giving  loans  to  persons,  who  are  not  credit  worthy,  extreme  dealings  in  future  options,  fancy  financial  products  which  are  basically  gambling  products.
Such  bubbles  always  burst,  and  it  is  always  persons  like  us  who  are  left  holding  the  bill.  Drinking
Even  premier  rating  agencies  give  nice  rating  to  these  institutions  right  upto  the  day  they  go  burst.

You  are  right  the  cascading  effect  will  be  there.
Let  us  hope  for  the  best.
Please  note  that  steel  prices  are  on  a  downward  trend,  so  take  care  and  don't  hold  it  for  too  long.

BTW  even  countries  are  going  bankrupt.
Iceland  is  first  country  to  have  filed  for  bankrupt,  and  the  main  reason  for  it  going  bankrupt  is  full  capital  account  convertability.
This  was  being  advised/forced  upon  India  by  many  countries,  fortunetly  as  things  move  in  India,  we  escaped  it.
