 Hi,

I  am  new  to  this  hobby  and  this  is  first  post  here..  I  had  setup  new  aquarium  almost  2  months  back.  First  couple  of  Gold  fishes  passed  away,  during  nitrogen  cycle.  Nearly  5  weeks  back  switched  over  to  Guppies.

I  use  borewell  water,  with  ~200  ppm  hardness.  My  tank  has  15  Guppies,  all  are  male.  I  do  twice  a  week  15-20%  water  change  and  ensure  that  the  power  filter  and  UGF  is  on  almost  all  the  time.  Water  is  crystal  clear.

From  last  one  week  I  am  seeing  most  of  my  guppies  are  turning  black.  They  eat  well,  swim  well,  active  but  the  colour  and  fins  are  getting  dark.

    Appreciate  members  help  here.

 regards,
 -manju

If  they  are  healthy,  then  it  could  be  that  they  are  just  showing  their  colors  now.

A  lot  of  varieties  of  fish  do  not  have  much  color  when  they  are  juviniles,  as  they  grow  and  mature  and  if  the  condition  of  the  tank  is  good  they  start  developing  their  colors.  So  it  could  be  just  that.

Post  a  picture  here  if  possible.

Fill  up  your  profile  and  especially  location.  This  will  help  members  to  easily  assist  you.

It  could  be  bad  water  quality  even  with  crystal  clear  clarity.  (Ammonia,  etc).

If  it  is  a  small  tank  you  could  try  adding  bottled  mineral  water  for  a  water  change.  Do  a  larger  water  change.

Its  around  Rs.20/-  to  Rs.30/-  for  twenty  five  liters  bottled  mineral  water.  Check  and  see  the  difference.

they  might  have  been  cross  of  different  species  of  guppies,so  they  dont  posses  any  one  colour  but  a  mixture  of  different  colours,  i  have  seen  guppies  change  colours  as  they  mature  or  are  well  settled  in  a  tank.
if  they  are  active  swimming  ,eating  well   i  dont  think  there  is  anything  for  you  to  worry  about

Yes,  they  are  very  active  and  calm.  Aggressive  when  it  comes  to  feeding,  feed  well.  I  am  thinking  of  adding  rock  salt  at  5g  per  2  gallon.  I  have  a  10+  gallon  tank,  takes  around  42  liters  of  water,  when  full.
