I  have  adopted  this  guy  from  another  hobbyist.  Details  about  the  food  habits,  tank  setup  and  compatibility  is  highly  appreciated.

btw,  this  Cichlid  is  highly  aggressive  and  the  other  tank  mates  are  Red  Devil,  Oscar,  Jack  Demspey,  Pink  Convicts.

Vieja  Maculicauda  aka  BlackBelt  ,  its  a  Central  American  Cichlid,  most  part  of  the  time  it  can  stands  its  ground........the  tank  mates  are  pretty  okay,  these  fish  require  soft  water  and  will  eat  almost  all  dry  foods.

What  size  tank  do  you  have  them  in.......space  plays  a  very  important  role  for  all  the  fishes  that  you  have...

 They  live  in  a  55  Gal  tank.  (48  x  13  x  21)

Red  Devil(1),  BB  Cichlid(1)  and  Oscar(1)  are  of  size  8  inches  each
 Jack  Demspey(1)  is  7  inches
 Convicts(3)  of  which  1  is  4  inches  and  2  are  3  inches.

All  are  agressive.  Red  Devil  is  okay.  He  sits  in  his  place  and  not  attcking  the  others  except  when  disturbed.  But  this  BB  is  chasing  and  fighting  with  the  others  very  aggressively.  Oscar  and  this  guy  are  fighting  like  crazy.  I  have  filled  the  tank  with  loads  of  rocks  and  hiding  places,  but,  still  the  fights  are  going  on.

So  thinking  of  the  bio  load  and  the  fights,  I  am  thinking  of  getting  rid  of  this  BB  Cichlid.  Any  suggestions  ?

with  your  current  stocking  you  need  a  tank  size  minimum  100G.

 Yes,  you  are  very  right...

I  got  all  these  fish  from  another  hobbyist.,  who  kept  all  the  above  plus  an  18  inch  Alligator  gar  and  3  Plecos  (1  is  12  ",   1  is  10"  and  smallest  6")  in  the  same  55  Gal  Tank.

I  have  given  Gar  and  the  Plecos  to  another  hobbyist  (lucky  to  get  rid  of  them).  Now  I  am  in  the  process  of  giving  few  more  to  someome.  But  it  is  difficult  to  decide  on  what  to  part  with.

that  isn't  an  alligator  gar  that  is  florida  or  spotted  gar
you  will  not  be  able  to  keep  all  those  large  chiclids  in  such  a  small  tank,  i  can  already  imagine  all  those  tank  parameters  shooting  off

 Bettaji,

 That  one  is  Pink  convict

 Headbanger,

 You  are  very  right.
In  fact,  Alligator  Gars  are  listed  as  endangered  species  and  keeping  them  in  captivity  is  a  crime.  As  I  was  told  that  this  as  Alligator  Gar,  I  contacted  "Florida  Fish  and  Wildlife  Conservation  Commission  (FWC)"  to  handover  the  fish  to  them.  After  looking  at  the  pictures  they  confirmed  this  guy  is  a  Florida  Gar  which  is  very  very  common  here.

btw,  I  have  given  Florida  Gar  to  another  hobbyist  who  has  a  very  big  pond  and  coming  to  the  Cichlids,  I  have  donated  all  of  them  to  another  hobbyist.

I  have  started  an  all  new  fish  setup.  As  of  now  I  have  got  3  Tropheus  duboisi  and  these  guys  are  happily  living  in  the  55  Gal  tank.  I  am  still  looking  for  Cichlids  which  are  compatible  with  Tropheus  and  once  I  find  them,  I  will  add  them  to  the  tank.

 Here  is  a  Pic.

 Dear  Ravikiran
Beautiful  white  spots.  I  will  advise  you  to  keep  other  variants  of  Tropheous  because  these  are  algae  eaters  fishes.
 Regards
 Kaushik

the  new  fish  are  tropheus  duboisi
the  spots  will  go  as  they  grow  and  they  will  get  blue  collars  and  black  bodies  and  these  fish  are  best  kept  in  large  colonies  and  will  kill  any  other  type  of  fish  introduced  in  their  tank

and  alligator  gar  aren't  endangered,  you  can  keep  them  as  long  as  you  have  a  large  pond

and  duboisi  prefer  veg  food  and  keeping  them  isn't  that  hard
algae  wafers  and  once  in  a  while  some  leafy  vegetables  is  a  good  diet  for  them
a  group  of  8  is  the  min  to  have  a  nice  colony  of  these  guys
