Man,  I  feel  like  giving  up  the  hobby.  Crying or Very sad

All  my  fishes  died  yesterday  night  due  to  excess  co2  in  one  of  my  tank.  It  was  a  comminity  tank  and  had  Neons,  Herlequins,  Cherry  barbs,  Danisonis,  Glowlight  tetra,  Otocinclus,  Kuhli  loaches,  Corridorras,  Rosy  barbs.

I  could  not  understand  yesterday  night  that  when  I  increased  the  vloume  of  co2  it  was  going  overboard.  The  bubble  counter  being  a  spiral  one,  did  not  tell  me  the  true  story.

Today  morning,  I  went  to  the  tank  to  see  all  fishes  floating  on  top.  Wall Bang

 Hey  Deb

 Dont  give  up.

Even  i  faced  the  same  issue  of  excess  Co2  getting  into  the  tank.  Incidently  i  was  speaking  with  Bharani  that  time  and  was  advised  to  run  the  powerfilter  and  areator  which  helped  to  revive  all  my  fishes  in  about  3-4  hrs  completely..

This  is  really  sad.  There  is  nothing  much  you  can  do  when  you  see  them  fish  floating  on  the  top.

Co2  users  are  advised  to  keep  an  air  pump  aeration  setup  on  standby  near  the  tank.  That  way  you  could  save  the  fish  during  early  detection  of  excess  Co2.

An  a  massive  quick  water  change  to  get  rid  of  the  Co2  saturated  water.

Be  more  alert  and  watchful  in  the  hours  after  fiddling  with  your  needle  valve.
Ideally  you  should  not  touch  the  needle  valve  once  it  is  set.
Preferably  for  the  entire  duration  till  the  exhaustion  of  the  Co2  in  the  Co2  cylinder.

I  use  one  cylinder  for  four  planted  tanks.  One  master  needle  valve  placed  after  the  Co2  regulator  to  control  the  four  individual  needle  valves.  That  way  the  settings  of  the  four  planted  tanks  remain  constant.

There  is  a  limit  on  what  we  can  do.  The  rest  is  in  the  hands  of  the  Almighty.  Do  not  take  it  too  hard.

 Dear  Dev
Sorry  to  hear  the  news.  Within  15  days  the  same  mishap  barren  2  tanks.
Isn't  there  any  mechanism  or  gadgets  which  can  identify  excessive  Co2  in  water?  I  think  auto  pH  meter  can  detect  this  sudden  fluctuations.  Isn't  so.?
 Regards
 Kaushik

Pull  yourself  up,  learn  from  your  mistakes  and  go  get  more  fish.  You  will  be  wiser.

Hi  Dev,  its  very  sad  to  hear.  Please  give  some  time  to  monitor  the  flow  of  CO2  in  the  tank  when  you  make  any  change  with  your  needle  valve.

 Dear  Deba,

Sorry  to  hear  about  your  loss.  Some  things  are  beyond  our  control.  But  in  the  end,  everyone  comes  out  wiser.  Now  you  know  that  you  should  never  adjust  the  valve  at  night  and  close  monitoring  is  required  whenever  you  do  so.  It  happens  to  everyone.  Don't  give  up.      Cheer Up

In  my  opinion,  CO2  should  be  put  off  at  night.
