 Hello  there,

I  want  to  buy  preferably  2-3  Clown  Loach  fishes  for  my  4  feet  tank  to  get  rid  of  snails.  There  are  just  too  many  of  them  now.

I  am  told  Yo  Yo  Loach  is  also  good  to  clear  snails.  If  they  are  available,  please  inform  me.

No  luck  with  blanched  cucumber  and  stuff  like  that.  Only  few  snails  get  picked  in  that.

I  am  based  out  of  Bangalore

 Best  wishes
 Ram.  SM.

YoYos  do  a  great  job  of  eating  up  snails  and  are  pretty  easily  available  in  LFS.  If  its  just  for  snails,  go  for  yoyo  loach  and  make  sure  you  have  atleast  3  of  them.

You  could  also  go  for  Dwarf  Puffers.  Nature_lover  has  a  bunch  and  can  ship  them  for  you...

I  have  been  keeping  yoyo  loaches  for  over  a  year,  keep  at  least  6  of  them  or  the  dominant  one  will  harass  the  rest  to  death.

Second  i  dont  think  they  will  eat  the  snails.  i  have  tried  to  feed  them  snails  and  they  completely  ignore  them.

They  keep  digging  the  substrate  looking  for  food,  and  this  might  be  a  problem  in  a  planted  tank.

Depending  upon  the  amount  of  food  they  find  they  will  also  eat  the  new  leaves  of  plants.

As  far  as  I  know  puffers  are  brakishwater  fishes  and  known  fin  nippers.  Might  not  fit  in  well  with  other  fishes.

Im  not  sure  if  thats  true  in  all  cases.  Atleast  the  ones  I  have  ignore  other  fishes,  and  might  have  small  fights  once  in  a  while  among  each  other.

I  have  2  in  my  tank  and  the  tank  is  snail  free.  Had  few  snails  when  I  put  the  yoyos  in  the  tank  and  the  snails  were  gone  in  24hours.  I  have  snails  in  a  cement  tank  just  to  feed  them.
