 Hi,

Last  week  I  moved  my  gold  fish  (5  goldfishes)  from  old  tank(24X18X18)  to  a  new  one(48  X  24  X18)  (about  270  lts).  I  also  moved  the  filters  (one  internal  filter  and  one  large  sponge  filter  ).  I  added  a  new  1400  l/hr  filter  along  with  the  old  filter  and  ran  the  two  for  1  week.
Yesterday  I  made  a  50  liters  water  change,  moved  the  filter  media  from  old  filter  to  new  filter  and  removed  the  old  filter.  All  the  fishes  are  doing  well  and  active  except  an  oranda.

It  is  not  eating  from  the  time  I  moved  it  into  the  new  tank  and  is  always  resting  below  water  surface.
No  signs  of  any  external  swelling  or  injuries.

What  could  be  possible  reasons  for  the  same.  Could  this  be  due  to  flukes?

I  do  not  have  any  means  to  test  for  ammonia.  Should  I  do  more  frequent  water  changes?  or  move  the  oranda  into  a  seperate  hospital  tank?

 Another  question:
I  have  some  Praziquantel  tabs  (3  x  600mg)  which  have  expiry  date  may  2008.  Is  it  safe  to  use  now.  Will  it  be  effective?

Please  advice  on  any  treatments  I  must  follow.

 Thanks,
 Arun

A  picture  would  be  helpful,  does  the  scales  of  the  fish  stick  out  like  a  pine  cone?

Sorry.  I  do  not  have  a  digital  camera.  I  will  try  to  get  a  picture  using  a  web  cam  tomorrow.  The  gold  fish  looks  perfectly  healthy.  Just  not  eating  and  lethargic.
The  scales  are  not  raised  or  pine  coned.

 Thanks,
 Arun

dont  use  that  tablets  as  they  are  already  expired  and  its  not  a  wise  thing  to  experiment  anything  dangerous  with  these  poor  creatures.and  may  be  your  oranda  is  missing  his  old  home  and  trying  to  get  adjusted  with  his  new  home.

What  is  you  water  temp,  you  can  use  some  salt  to  alleviate  the  problems  of  cycling  tank.
It  would  have  been  better  if  you  had  transferred  your  fish  at  a  interval  of  one  week  -10  days.
A  cycling  tank  is  stressfull  for  a  oranda.  Even  though  you  have  used  old  filters,  but  the  nitorgen  cycle  will  take  some  time  to  establish.
Constant  temp  and  salt  addition  might  do  the  trick.

 hello  arun

You  could  shift  it  to  a  hospital  tank  for  the  tiime  being  and  put  epsom  salt.  Adding  kitchen  salt  will  require  lots  of  paitence  to  see  recovery,  what  size  is  the  oranda?  while  changing  did  you  remove  the  fishes  in  a  net  or  used  a  bowl  with  water  to  capture  them  ?  because  if  you  transfered  them  in  a  net,  probably  this  one  already  had  a  bad  stomach  and  got  over  stressed.....

 Hello  everyone,

Thanks  for  the  response.  I  have  moved  the  fish  to  a  sepeate  tub  (30  liters)  and  added  salt  to   0.4  %  salinity.  I  am  also  slowly  raising  the  temperature  towards  28  C.  The  fish  has  taken  a  little  food  today. But  only  eating  floating  food  (Hikari  Oranda  gold).  Not  taking  Bottom  sinking  food  (Hikari  LionHead).

 Thanks,
 Arun
