 Leechman  reporting

 1.  Another  Guppy  found  with  a  Leech  on  it   Sad
 2.  Looked  under  rocks  and  found  another  one  (completely  green,  so  had  not  got  the  opportunity  to  suck  any  blood).
 3.  Found  yellow  eggs  under  a  leaf  with  thick  protection

Do  I  need  any  other  reason  to  end  the  planted  tank?

 First  attempt

Removed  all  fish  into  a  tub  (no  quarantine  /  extra  tanks)  including  all  shrimps  (including  tiny  shrimplets  which  are  with  my  Guppy  Fry)

I  bought  Potash  Alum  (got  duped,  not  good  stuff)  from  local  Medical  Store  at  Rs.  8  per  150  Gms,  dumped  2  packets  (300  Gms)  into  a  tub  with  all  the  plants  and  3  packets  (450)  gms  into  my  tank  of  225  Liters  with  only  about  25  litres  of  water.

Result...  all  swimming  happily.  Realised  Potash  Alum  that  I  got  is  not  good

 Second  attempt

Got  Glteraldehyde  (Thanks  to  Mr.  Trevor)
Filled  the  tank  with  complete  water  (after  siphoning  the  Potash  Alum  that  had  settled  on  the  substrate
Restarted  the  filter  (Filter  can  carry  eggs  /  live  leeches)
Found  another  leech  sitting  on  the  glass  -  again  green
Put  all  the  plants  back  into  the  tank
Poured  about  10  ML  of  Gluteraldehyde

 Result  -
Cant  find  the  leech  -  Dead  or  alive
All  snails  look  dead,  some  are  still  sticking  to  the  glass  so  not  sure
All  plants  are  doing  fine  -  so  far
The  water  is  the  cleanest  I  have  ever  seen  in  the  tank...

Prayer:  Hope  all  leeches  are  dead  and  the  eggs  if  sny  left  are  also  dead.

Lesson:  Sterilize  all  plants  and  other  decoratives  before  putting  them  into  the  tank  especially  if  it  is  got  from  the  wild...  if  it  is  from  well  known  LFS,  then  get  them  to  redo  your  tank  Smile  (wishful  thinking,  just  kidding)

Next  step...  now  that  I  am  here  with  the  opportunity...  I  want  to  go  for  a  better  scape...  any  suggestions?

Posted,  latest  photo  a  few  days  before  the  demise  and  the  rouge  leech  (the  first  one  which  I  had  found,  is  it  eggs  in  its  stomach?)

Hey  Shreyas,  good  to  know  you  got  the  Glteraldehyde.  Your  old  aquascape  looked  good,  why  not  do  it  the  same  way  ?

You  did  get  a  successful  Jungle  Look  in  your  scape  Shreyas.

 Bad  luck  with  the  Leeches.

In  your  next  scape,  put  some  focus  on  the  Hardscape  (Driftwoods  &  Rocks),  look  at  a  few  good  scapes  on  the  net  to  get  an  idea  about  hardscapes  (Especially  ADA  Tanks).  Once  you  get  the  basic  Idea  then  think  about  the  kind  of  scape  you  want  to  do  .....  all  the  best   Thumb Up

I  am  overwhelmed  with  the  compliments  on  the  First  Jungle...  Thanks  to  all  for  that.

Now  as  Seetharam  put  it  (and  after  seeing  his  tank  and  Mayur's  tank)  I  want  a  more  defined  scape...  probably  a  more  controlled  Jungle  and  an  integration  with  a  beach,  which  I  think  will  look  cool.

 My  idea  is

Mountain  starting  from  one  corner,  thick  vegetation  as  we  come  down  the  valley  and  a  beach  to  end  it,  and  maybe  a  small  stream  joining  the  sea...

Am  trying  to  locate  a  scape  like  this  to  get  some  more  firm  pointers.

@  Shameek,  I  think  it  is  eggs  as  these  were  the  first  leeches  in  the  tank  and  after  chucking  these  out,  I  found  similar  dots  on  a  leaf  with  thick  slimy  fluid  protecting  it  (no  fish  will  manage  eating  it,  I  am  sure)  But  I  am  not  sure.

 Hi  Shreyas

nice!  very  very  green,  treat  for  the  eyes!!
I  had  started  my  tank  on  15th  Nov.  so  its  now  one  a  half  month  old,  started  with  fewer  plants  so  nothing  like  what  you  have,  but  am  happy  with  what  I  have.
Intially  wanted  to  start  with  a  scape  but  since  it  was  the  first  attempt  decided  not  to  get  too  ambitious.  (Would  update  my  thread  once  2  months  are  completed).
Best  of  luck  for  aquascaping.  Looking  forward  to  see  your  next  project.

I  want  a  beach  in  the  front  and  PROBABLY  a  mountain  at  one  corner...  All  suggestions  welcome

 Hey  Shreyas,

Try  and  put  a  test  fish  in  your  tank  like  a  bait  for  the  leech  and  see  if  a  leech  gets  onto  it  before  you  go  for  your  favorite  fishes  ...

Go  for  a  slow  moving  fish  just  to  make  doubly  sure  ....that  you  saw  the  end  to  it.  Thumb Up

Thanks  Adip,  I  am  putting  in  one  of  your  Delta  Guppies...  If  it  dies  I  get  free  replacement  Smile  Just  kidding

Tomorrow  is  off  and  I  plan  to  do  the  layout  tomorrow  after  which,  the  tank  needs  to  be  cycled  etc  etc  all  over  again

What  do  you  suggest  I  do  with  the  fishes  for  a  week  more  atleast?  Tub  is  ok  with  water  changes  and  feed?

My  mom  had  called  me  saying  she  noticed  a  lone  snail  walking  around  in  the  tank,  where  the  filter  is  still  running  with  the  plants  and  water  and  10  ML  of  Gluteraldehyde  that  was  put  in  2  days  back,  I  am  wondering  how?  and  if  I  should  doze  gluteraldehyde  again....  too  many  if's  and  but's  :(

 All  the  best  to  me.

 Hi  Shreyas

 have  a  look  at  this

 http://www.aquatic-eden.com/

The  blogger  gives  her  analysis  about  prize  winning  aquascapes,  dig  into  some  of  her  older  posts  you  can  find  great  ideas  there.  I  personally  like  her  analysis  a  lot
