 Hello  everybody,

I  am  just  starting  out  with  a  planted  aquarium.  It  is  4'  x  1.5'  x  2'  high.  I  had  been  to  Redlin  to  check  out  on  the  methods  of  injecting  CO2  into  the  tank.  They  had  suggested  a  Electrolytic  CO2  diffuser.  Has  anyone  used  this  before?  Or  does  anyone  know  where  we  could  check  out  the  effectiveness  of  this  method  versus  the  more  commonly  used  cylinder  method?  Look  forward  to  some  discussion  on  this  subject.

 Sirish.

Thanks  for  your  help  Dominic  and  welcome  to  Chennai.  I  am  new  to  the  aqua-world  myself.  I  am  overwhelmed  with  what  kind  of  information  exchange  takes  place  on  this  site.  Beta  and  others  have  been  doing  a  phenomenal  job  of  maintaining  it.

The  diffuser  I  have  seen  at  Redlin  does  not  use  a  CO2  tank.  It  is  supposed  to  work  electolytically  (if  there  is  such  a  word).

 Sirish.

 Hello  Sirish,

The  carbo  plus  pads  that  you  hav  seen  in  redlin  is  not  used  for  tanks  over  3  feet  in  lenght.  The  second  point  to  be  noted  that  they  usually  dont  hav  refill  cartridges  for  the  same.  The  most  easier  and  economical  way  to  diffuse  co2  is  to  use  the  yeat  and  sugar  brew  and  make  a  DIY  co2  kit.  If  in  case  you  are  willing  to  spend  a  lil  more,  then  the  best  option  is  to  go  for  a  co2  cylinder  and  a  good  reactor.  The  cylinder  can  be  got  from  my  source  too  in  case  u  want  the  contact  info  please  ask  beta  as  I  am  sure  he  must  be  having  it.  This  person  will  deliver  the  cylinder  at  your  door  step  and  he  is  not  very  expensive  too.  As  for  the  reactor  you  hav  3  options.
 1.  Inverted  coke  bottle  made  at  home.
 2.  Resun  Reactor  from  GEM.
 3.  Reactor  from  rufus  at  bangalore.

Choose  the  best  option  that  suites  you.

 Regards

 Venket

Have  a  look  at  this  article
 http://www.fortunecity.com/lavender/halloween/881/carbo.htm

Here  is  a  simple  reactor  which  uses  simple  components
 http://www.aquaticscape.com/articles/co2reactor.htm

Last  week  I  paid  Rs  3000/-  for  a  4.5kg  Fire  Extinguser  Cylinder  with  full  CO2  (no  regulator).

 Regards
 Dominic

 Hi  Dominic,

nice  to  hear  that  you  got  a  cylinder  but  4.5kg  cylinder  is  not  that  expensive.  To  add,  I  have  a  9kg  that  costed  me  less  than  the  cost  you  hav  paid  and  this  one  had  full  stock  in  it  too.  Needle  valve  and  regulator  can  be  got  from  Broadway  for  arround  Rs.1000/-  all  inclusive.  Again  if  u  need  any  further  info  you  can  feel  free  to  call  Beta  or  myself.  My  phone  number  is  9840246364.

 Regards

I  have  problems  already  with  the  electrolytic  diffuser.    Crying or Very sad  It  has  got  a  thick  slimy  white  covering  over  it.  Looks  like  Algae,  only  it  is  real  white.  I  took  your  advise  and  called  Ramesh.  He  will  be  coming  over  today  or  tomorrow  to  set  up  a  cylinder  type  CO2  system.  Thanks  for  the  contact.    Very Happy    Very Happy

He  says  he's  used  Walker's  Silica.  There  is  no  slime  on  the  silica,  but  all  rubber  suckers  for  holding  equipment  such  as  the  pipes  etc.  have  the  white  formation.
