 I  think  foam  at  surface  is  due  to  proteins  in  the  water.You  should  take  remedial  steps  for  this  problem

 @smartlove

 First  you  need  to  describe  the  tank,  your  parameters  for  us  to  help  you.  Is  it  a  freshwater  /  saltwater  etc  etc  only  then  one  can  guide  you.

 Cheers
 nirav

 Sorry  for  hijacking  the  thread,  but  I  see  the  same  in  my  krib  tank.  Its  a  2x1.5x1.5  fresh  water  with  a  300Lph  HOB  running.  I  feed  flakes  and  sometimes  dried  blood  worms.

 Okie...googled  around  and  seems  its  because  of  ammonia  and  protein  buildup  in  the  tank.

 Solutions:
 1.  Make  WC  15-25%  every  other  day  for  a  few  days
 2.  Increase  &/or  clean  the  filter  media
 3.  Reduce  fish  load

 Are  you  also  using  any  calcium  based  substance  in  your  freshwater  tank?  Some  people  do  keep  dead  corals  shells  etc.  which  causes  foamy  water  surface.

 I  can  say  where  the  ammonia  build  up  might  have  been  from-I  have  garden  soil  in  there  but  have  not  put  in  any  plants.  Could  be  because  of  that.  No  shells  are  in  there.

 @smartlove-the  answers  to  the  above  questions  might  point  you  to  the  source  of  the  problem,  but  a  quick  water  change  might  be  the  temporary  solution-and  more  WC  would  be  needed.

 I  don't  know  the  reason  but  I  had  that  once.  Just  increased  the  aeration  (Oxygen  circulation)--the  foams  started  breaking  up  in  the  surface  and  after  a  couple  of  20%  water  changes  (alternate  days),  got  rid  off  the  problem!  I  am  not  sure  but  I  suspected  it  was  from  a  new  drift  wood  I  had  put  i  the  tank

 as  you  started  facing  the  problem  after  waterchange,  one  reason  could  be  some  amt  of  soapy  substance  in  water  or  the  buckets  you  used  while  water  change

 I  have  had  this  too  and,  after  doing  a  lot  of  research,  hypothesis,  etc,  I  found  that  it  was  a  simple  case  of  not  washing  the  buckets  thoroughly  before  using  them  for  water  changes  -  a  small  residue  of  soap  was  getting  in  and  causing  a  lot  of  bubbles  making  water  look  foamy

 it  could  be  because  of  hard  water.
