I  have  two  of  the  crypts  shown  in  the  first  picture  in  my  tank.  They  grow  pretty  fast  and  send  out  runners  like  crazy.  The  leaves  look  healthy  but  are  brownin  color,  is  this  normal?

Abhi  your  first  plant  is  a  Cryptocoryne  wendtii.  Most  probably  C.wendtii  'brown'.  They  have  amazing  levels  of  plasticity.  And  there  are  a  lot  of  natural  hybrids.Definitely  not  Cryptocoryne  xwillisii.
 Second  one  is  Cryptocoryne  pontederiifolia.
 Thanks
 Bhushan

Bhusan,  on  the  lines  of  what  Beta  said  can  the  second  one  be   cordata  var  blassi?  The  leaf  shape  is  definitely  looking  like  pontederiifolia  but  then  the  colour  is  bit  brownish  which  is  characteristic  of  blassi.

Abhi:  Crypt  Wenditii  'Green  Gecko'  is  developed  variety  by  Oriental  Aquariums,  Singapore  and  mostly  imported  in  India.  They  have  brown  streaks  along  midrib.  Yours  are  definitley  not  Geckos

Could  it  be  related  to  the  level  of  light?  Mine  are  just  around  51/2  inches  in  height?
Hamza,  is  this  in  your  low  light  non  CO2  tank?

Cryptocoryne  ponterderiifolia  can  have  reddish  brown  tinged  leaves  under  certain  conditions.  Submerged  growth  of  C  cordata  var.  cordata  aka  'blassii'  is  not  as  robust.

Not  to  the  light  at  all,  from  my  experience.  They  grew  about  6-8"  in  my  previous  setup  with  just  over  1wpg,  now  I  have  around  2.5wpg.
Thats  definitely  got  to  be  the  depth  of  substrate  then,  the  ones  which  are  1.5'  tall  are  in  background  where  substrate  is  4+",  I  had  some  more  growing  in  midground  with  1.5-3"  of  substrate  and  they  hardly  exceeded  6"  mark.

I  might  be  wrong,  but  thats  how  they  were  for  nearly  6  months.

From  my  experience,  I  would  say,  light  is  the  main  factor  of  Crypts  growth  and  height.  You  got  Wenditii  growing  till  1.5'  and  the  same  crypt  under  MH  are  just  hardly  2-3"  tall  in  my  tank  and  if  I  increase  the  photoperiod,  they  will  start  lying  on  the  substrate.

Cryptocoryne  wendtii  is  found  in  many  forms  small  to  large,   with  smooth  to  bullated  leaves  which  can  be  green,  brown,  red, mottled  and  a  combination  of  all  of  these.  There  are  more  than  15  know  natural  hybrid  forms  of  C  wendtii.  So  a  lot  of  times  it  depends  on  what  genes  your  plant  has.  High  light,  Co2  and  fertile  substrate  can  affect  the  plants  appearance.  Another  important  factor  which  affects  the  height  of  C  wendtii  is  the  space  available  for  it  to  spread.  IME  if  planted  in  tight  small  space  it  will  grow  tall.

 Thanks
 Bhushan
