I  wanted  to  ask  everyone  how  do  they  plant  their  plants.  I  was  just  gathering  all  my  stuff  and  was  thinking  that  i  know  how  to  setup  everything  but  i  dont  know  how  to  plant  the  plants.  My  question  is  do  you  just  take  the  roots  down  to  the  river  sand  and  leave  them  or  do  you  dig  deep  down  under  the  red  soil   and  leave  it  there.  Where  and  how  do  you  plant  and  is  there  any  specific  technique  ?  I  just  want  to  know  so  that  I  can  go  ahead  with  my  setup.  I  am  planning  a  1.5  inch  red  soil  layer  topped  with  1.5  inch  of  river  sand  also  a  thin  layer  of  fertilizer  between  that  and  the  tablet  fertilizers.  If  you  could  also  let  me  know  placing  of  tablet  fertilizers.  Thanks  alot  for  your  help  in  advance.

You  can  plant  all  of  them  upto  river  sand  level,  the  roots  will  get  down  to  lateriate  level.
Most  of  stem  plants  can  be  planted  approx  1-2  cm  apart,  rosstte  plants  like  echinodorus,  etc.  should  have  their  crown,  the  place  where  leaves  start,  above  the  substrate,  ot  it  will  rot.
Plants  like  java  ferns,  anubias  do  best  when  tied  to  rocks,  wood  above  the  substrate.
BTw  what  plants  are  you  planting.

Hi,  it  can  be  quite  messy  to  push  plants  thru  3inch  thick  soil  with  your  fingers.  The  way  me  and  my  LFS  friend  did  it  was  that  we  layered  the  substrate  and  filled  a  few  (2-3inches)  of  water  and  used  surgical  forceps  (biggish  tweezers)  to  hold  the  bottom  of  the  plant  and  stick  it  into  the  substrate...this  way  there  is  less  disturbance  &  mixing  of  the  substrate.

Plant  the  smaller  plants  first...fill  some  more  watter  and  then  plant  the  bigger  ones....this  way  the  big  plants  dont  flop  over  the  aquarium  floor  and  prevent  u  from  planting  the  smaller  ones...

Regarding  various  types  of  plants  and  their  individual  preferences,  it  is  better  that  you  refer  to  the  experts.

cheers  n  happy  planting   Thumb Up

Use  foreceps,  the  blunt  ones  for  big  plants  and  the  pointed  ones  for  foreground  plants  like  Hair  grass.
