Unni,  I  think  its  a  Nymphoides   sp.  Most  probably  Nymphoides  sp.  'Taiwan'  .  It  should  send  out  shoots  rapidly.

   Hi  Nayak  and  Bhushan

It  looks  very  similar  to  the  picture  that  Nayak  has  posted.  I  got  the  Plant  from  Vincent  when  I  went  down  to  Trivandrum  a  month  back.  Unfortunately  he  had  forgotten  the  name  of  the  plant.

It  sends  out  tall  stems/runners  to  the  surface  which  produces  further  plants.  I  got  a  few  of  those  floating  cuttings

Vince  has  better  pictures  on  his  old  6  feeter  thread  Here  .

The  plant  in  question  is  on  the  Rt  posterior  corner  in  the  last  picture

Unni,  Otellia  alismoides   and  Nymphoides  sp.  'Taiwan'  can  look  very  similar  to  an  untrained  eye.  The  leaves  look  very  similar  but  O.  alismoides  leaves  are  comparatively  more  robust  underwater.  The  give  away  that  it  is  Nymphoides  sp.  'Taiwan'  is  your  description  of  how  this  plant  grows.  Very  typical  of  Nymphoides  sp'Taiwan'.  O.alismoides  propagates  solely  by  seeds  and  that  too  very  slowly.

 Hi  Bhushan,

The  plant  in  my  picture  was  given  to  me  by  Trevor.  He  had  personnel  y  collected  the  plant  in  the  Cauvery  river  basin.

In  further  collection  trips  including  the  recent  ones  we  have  seen  the  same  plant  growing  in  the  wild.

It  would  be  very  helpful  if  you  can  post  both  the  pictures  of  Nymphoides  sp.  'Taiwan'  and  Otellia  alismoides  for  comparison.

By  the  way  my  plant  too  propagated  exactly  as  explained  by  Unni.

 Regards,
 Nayak.

 Hi  Nayak,
I  would  try  to  get  pics  of  the  Nymphoides  sp.  'Taiwan'  in  the  evening.  Our  club  bought  this  plant  from  the  AGA  Convention  last  year.  I  have  just  moved  it  to  a  small  container  pond  on  my  patio  this  last  couple  of  weeks.  God  tired  of  its  rapid  growth.  I  won't  be  able  to  post  any  pictures  of  Ottelia  alismoides  as  its  considered  a  Federal  Noxious  Weed  here  in  States.  I  have  seen  O.alismoides  in  wild  back  in  India(  Sanjay  Gandhi  National  Park  -  Mumbai  and  through  out  rice  fields  and  small  ponds  in  Konkan).  We  should  be  able  to  check  other  resources  on  the  net  to  compare  O.alismoides  pictures.

 Regards,
 Bhushan

 Thanks  Bhushan,

 That  will  be  helpful.

No  offence  taken  Nayak.  Nope  not  a  botanist  by  a  long  shot.  Just  a  serious  hobbyist  like  you.  Have  been  keeping  planted  tanks  for  over  a  decade.

 Thanks
 Bhushan

 This  thread  rocks.

Unni,  you  get  so  many  varieties  of  plants  in  Kochi!  Unbelievable.   Surprised

Unni  the  last  picture  is  of  Nymphoides  sp.  as  said  by  Bhushan.

Nayak,  this  is  not  Otellia  alismoides  IMO,  cause  both  the  stem  and  the  leaves  are  like  Nymphoides  Sp.

Now  I  wonder  where  Vince  has  gone  off  to
He  was  the  Original  Spupplier  of  the  Nymphoides  Vs  Ottelia  Plant.  May  be  all  this  discussion  will  help  hime  recall  its  name  now.

Here  is  a  quick  pic  of  Nymphoides  sp'Taiwan'  .  The  leaf  pictured  is   about  4-5  days  old.  It  gets  a  lot  larger  than  that.

 Thanks

Does  Glosso  have  a  narrow  leafed  form?

The  plant  shown  below  has  grown  in  my  two  week  old  glosso  patch.  I  was  wondering  if  this  is  glosso  with  some  nutrient  deficiency  or  a  separate  plant  altogether?

 Any  ideas  are  welcome
