This  is  a  big  bunch  of  Bolbitis  heudelotii  I  have  managed  to  grow  in  my  tank  starting  with  a  few  bits  and  pieces  in  9  months.

The  leaf  width  and  size  in  the  images  above  and  below  is  the  largest  I  have  managed  to  grow  ever.  The  leaf  size  increased  dramatically  in  the  one  month  I  have  been  adding  Fulvic  acid  chelated  micronutrients  to  my  tank.

My  secret  to  get  explosive  growth  of  Bolbitis  is  in  the  pictures  above  and  below.

   See  it  ?  Very Happy

That  tank  is  now  being  dismantled  and  I  am  using  the  plants  to  set  up  2  new  tanks.  So  I  don't  have  a  full  shot  of  the  tank.  Sorry.

People  who  have  been  to  my  home  have  seen  it,  but  I  doubt  they'd  have  noticed  the  leaf  size  as  none  of  them  removed  the  plant  out  of  the  tank.  The  size  of  the  leaves  did  surprise  me  when  I  took  the  plant  out.

 Hi  Madan  Sir,
i  was  commenting  on  the  post  before  and  "swoosh"  it  was  gone.

i  can  see  some  duckweed  stuck  to  the  leaves...i  used  duckweed  to  cover  my  java  fern  from  excessive  light....

am  i  correct  or  is  there  a  bigger  hint?

I  have  NO  Duck  weed  in  my  tank.  Surprised

It  got  in  there  once  about  7-8  years  ago  and  it  took  me  6  months  to  get  rid  of  it.

There  is  absolutely  no  duckweed  there.

The  plant  was  grown  under  150  watt  8000  K  full  MH  lighting,  except  the  last  2  months  when  the  fixture  went  kaput  and  I  did  not  bother  to  repair  it.  I  was  going  to  replace  the  tank  anyway.

So  only  ambient  light  for  2  months  with  2  hours  diffused  sunlight  through  agriculture  sunlight  screen  netting  (75%)  in  the  very  early  morning  only.  CO2  pressurised  through  a  recator,  normal  dosing.  No  Sunlight  penetarted  the  tank  while  the  MH  was  working  as  I  had  stuck  black  Oyama  paper  to  keep  the  sunlight  out.

The  Thread  went  swoosh  as  I  realised  I  might  as  well  start  organizing  the  Gallery  starting  today  and  moved  the  album  and  then  everything  went  haywire,  so  I  deleted  the  thread  and  restarted.

he  he  he....i  mean  i  love  duckweed  and  i  love  throwing  them  out  once  in  a  while  but  never  threw  entirely  as  i  like  it  flowing  on  the  surface.....earlier  in  order  to  prevent  algae  i  used  to  huddle  them  with  a  net  over  the  java  fern....

Yes,  Madan  had  already  mentioned  this  in  one  of  the  posts.  The  Bolbitis  was  rooted  in  the  gravel  with  the  rhizome  outside.  Secret  to  good  growth.  Oops!  it  is  out  !!   Chuckle

Yes  it  is  gravel  stuck  to  the  roots.

You  want  to  get  a  lot  of  Bolbitis  fast  from  that  one  expensive  pot  of  Bolbitis  heudelotii  you  buy  from  a  LFS,  tie  the  entire  lot  on  to  a  small  piece  of  wood  or  stone  and  place  it  directly  on  the  gravel.

Do  not  trim  the  roots.  In  fact  if  you  can  push  the  roots  into  the  substrate,  if  they  are  long  enough,  the  better.  The  rhizome  SHOULD  be  out  of  the  gravel  firmly  on  the  wood  or  rock..
The  Bolbitis  should  be  in  the  path  of  the  water  current,  not  strong  current,  but  the  leaves  should  just  about  move  in  the  current.  Continue  with  normal  dosing  CO2  etc.,

Bingo,  in  4-5  months  there  will  be  massive  growth.  In  case  the  old  leaves  get  BBA,  mercilessly  cut  them  out,  once  the  plant  takes  off  you'll  get  no  more  BBA.

The  chelates  were  in  the  water  column.  The  roots  penetrated  the  substrate.
