 Dev,
Driftwood  is  not  an  option  for  me  since  this  is  african  tank.

I  am  a  little  concerned  about  having  such  huge  rocks  in  the  tank  in  the  first  place  and  also  the  rocks  blocking  the  water  flow.

I  will  give  it  a  try  in  the  6  feeter..  let's  see.

 Thanks.

It's  turn  for  the  male  Copadichrmois  borleyi  (Kadango  red  fin).  This  is  one  fish  that  is  always  hormoned  at  the  time  of  selling  IME.  I  have  bought  3  of  these  fishes  over  time  in  different  sizes  and  with  briliant  colors,  but  the  first  two  turned  out  to  be  females  and  turned  grey  in  some  weeks.

But,  I  was  really  interested  in  a  male  of  this  species  and  kept  buying  and  guess  what,  I  was  lucky  the  third  time.  I  bought  it  at  2.5"  in  Mar  09.
Buying  tips  for  this  fish  if  you  are  looking  for  a  male  in  a  jiuced  up  bunch  of  juvies:  Look  for  the  ones  turning  lighter  once  they  are  agitated  by  the  net  inside.

This  is  a  fish  that  can  compete  oscars  for  growth  rate..  mine  almost  doubled  in  two  and  half  months.

This  is  the  fish  in  the  process  of  losing  colors  at  3"  (Mar20'09)

It  was  drab  brown  for  some  time  and  then  suddenly  the  body  started  turning  lighter  and  reddish  with  a  blue  shine..  I  am  sorry  i  do  not  have  photos  from  that  period..

This  is  the  fish  25th  May'09  at  4.5"

It  has  grown  some  more  and  ventral  fin  shapes  have  changed  since  then  and  I  will  update  the  photos  shortly

 Update  on  25th  Mar  10

 (Aug  09)

 (Sep  09)

 (Feb10)  6+

The  female  Cyrtocara  moorii  AKA  malawi  Blue  Dolphin..  This  particular  one  is  slowest  grower  I  have  ever  seen,  it  simply  refuses  to  grow  Sad.  The  males  grew  quite  fast  though..

March'08  at  less  than  two  inches

 Nov'08  around  3"

Dec'08  ,  a  little  more  than  3"  may  be.  You  can  see  one  of  the  males  with  in  front  of  it.

Mar'09  holding  it's  second  spawn,  the  first  one  was  a  miss.  Close  to  4"

I  know  the  other  two  I  have  are  males  because  I  have  seen  this  one  spawn  with  each  of  them  in  different  times.

Grt  going  Abhinaba..do  you  have  any  tips  on  how  to  identify  the  sex  of  C  Moori  before  while  buying?  Also,  the  peacocks  in  your  tank  have  splendid  colours.  I  am  not  that  successful  with  peacocks  wrt  colouration.  Any  tips  for  this  as  well,  like  maintaining  specific  PH,  food,  tankmates  etc?

 Maulik,Binesh,
As  I  said  in  my  last  post,  I  know  this  is  a  female  as  it  has  successfully  held  full  term  and  I  have  a  brood  from  it.
I  know  the  other  two  are  males  because  I  have  seen  this  one  spawn  with  each  of  them  separately.

 C.  moorii  are  monomorphic,  so  it  is  not  possible  to  identify  sex  by  looking  at  it.

Best  of  luck  with  your  C.  mooriis.

 Binesh,
Regarding  coloration  of  your  peacock,  when  did  you  buy  it,  what  size?
In  most  cases,  these  poor  creatures  are  hormoned  when  sold  and  that  has  a  lot  to  do  with  their  health  and  coloration.

All  the  fish  in  this  tank  are  fed
 Cichlid  Excel  as  staple.
 NLS  twice/thrice  weekly.
 Prawn  weekly  once
 Cichlid  Gold  very  rarely.
 Vegetables  occassionally.

 Thanks,
