My  Goldies  are  fantail  goldfishes.  I  am  planning  to  shift  them  to  a  tank  sized  45  inch  x  15  inch  x  30  inch  (lxbxh)  after  a  month  as  I  am  trying  to  understand  them  first  before  spending  50K  for  the  tank.  I  would  prefer  the  floor  filter  with  double  ventilation  air  pump.  Would  that  a  good  idea  or  any  changes  needed.

 Aviral,
A  tank  that  size  does  not  cost  that  much,  not  even  close  including  stand  and  hood.  It  is  not  that  pricy  if  you  get  some  reliable  tank  maker.  Before  going  to  order  your  tank,  talk  to  members  in  your  city  via  PM  or  mail  to  get  a  rough  idea  about  who  makes  good  tank  and  at  what  price.  Talk  to  a  lot  of  people..  that  is  the  key  to  start  on  a  good  platform.

Also,  height  of  30"  is  not  recommended  because  it  will  be  real  hard  to  reach  the  bottom  of  the  tank  to  clean  it.

 Abhi

I  am  getting  a  complete  cabinet  prepared  for  it.  The  cabinet  would  be  made  of  teak  while  the  aquarium  would  be  embedded  in  it.  Thats  the  reason  for  it  to  be  costly,  and  if  i  would  go  for  a  bigger  aquarium,  I  would  prefer  getting  of  such  a  manner  (pattern  and  structure).

Wow..  that  would  be  a  cool  one...  but  be  sure  you  keep  your  motivation  levels  high  to  maintain  such  a  tank..  With  such  a  large  tank  you  need  to  do  some  20%  water  change  every  week..  So  equip  yourselves  with  the  cleaning  tools  and  all..

Floor  filters  are  good  as  long  as  they  are  working..  But  are  messy  to  clean  them  or  fix  them..  So  all  the  best..  I  would  suggest  one  or  two  power  filters..  most  of  these  power  filters  come  with  aerator  also..  so  you  dont  need  a  separate  air  pump.

Since  you  are  going  for  a  bigger  tank,  if  you  are  thinking  of  adding  some  more  fish  along  with  goldies,  lemme  warn  you  ahead  that  goldies  are  easy  targets  to  lotsa  fish..  I  had  tried  unsuccessfully  with  gouramis,  mollies,  angels,  all  these  can  harm  the  goldies  easily..  Better  to  leave  the  goldies  with  goldies  only..  Or  you  can  add  some  small  fish  like  zebra  danio,  neon  tetras  etc..

 Thanks
 Sankar

 Hi!

I  am  planning  to  keep  this  tank  for  just  these  8  Fantail  and  1  Moors.  Planning  to  go  for  a  3  block  aquarium  of  same  size  but  having  partition  of  3  at  equal  partition.  In  that,  I  am  planning  to  go  for  a  pair  of  Telescope  and  a  pair  of  Commons  in  one  partition,  a  pair  of  mollies  (  both  types)  in  second  partition  and  2  pairs  of  neon  tetras  in  the  3rd  partition.

I  would  go  for  them  after  I  know  how  to  pet  the  fishes,  which  means  at  least  a  year  later.  At  present  the  target  is  for  shifting  these  goldies  to  bigger  tank  after  a  month.

 Hope  for  the  best.

 Regards,
 Aviral  Mediratta

What  sort  of  filters  should  I  use?  Except  the  internal  power  filters  as  they  push  the  fishes  and  I  am  afraid  that  it  might  hurt  them.  I  am  not  able  to  find  floor/UGF  in  my  locality  so  anyone  from  Ahmedabad  can  guide  me  the  place?  And  How  to  feed  them  with  peas  or  other  vegetative  that  they  like?

I  have  Fantail  Goldies  and  a  moors  gold  fish.

This  advice  is  as  per  my  knowledge  and  I  have  started  this  hobby  (with  proper  focus)  a  few  months  only.

If  the  turbulence/flow  of  power  filter  is  disturbing  the  fishes,  re-align  you  power  filter  to  throw  out  the  water  as  fountain  from  above  the  water  level.  I  think  we  get  some  attachment  for  this.

Or  you  may  go  in  for  a  Sponge  Filter.

 Hi  Aviral,

I  dont  think  power  filters  will  be  a  problem.  You  can  always  point  the  nozzle  of  the  filter  towards  some  obstacle.  I  keep  my  filter  attached  to  the  rear  glass  and  make  the  split  nozzle  of  my  BOYU  filter  point  towards  the  front  glass  of  the  aquarium.  This  considerably  slows  down  the  heavy  movement  of  the  water.

These  fish  can  eat  most  kinda  fruits  and  vegetables.  They  can  eat  carrots.  In  fact  if  you  are  going  out  of  station  for  a  week,  just  slice  carrots  into  small  slices  and  put  it  inside  the  aquarium.  The  goldies  will  wait  for  some  2  days  for  the  carrot  to  be  soaked  and  then  eat  them  completely.  You  dont  need  to  bother  for  a  week  then..  Regarding  peas,  you  can  do  this.  Take  a  few  of  them  in  a  small  bowl  of  water  and  keep  it  in  the  microwave  for  10  secs  (  not  more  than  that  ).  Then  take  the  hot  peas  and  remove  the  outer  coating  of  the  peas  and  crush  the  inner  green  color  peas  with  your  finger  until  it  becomes  into  a  paste/small  pieces.  And  tada  enjoy  feeding  them.  You  can  also  hand  feed  them  this  way..  Hold  it  in  your  hand  and  the  goldies  will  pluck  it  from  your  hand..

 Thanks
 Sankar

 Aviral

Regarding  the  filter  query,  a  Hang  On  Back  (HOB)  filter  is  also  a  good  alternative.
