 Hi    Smile

I  wanted  to  purchase  a  few  cichlids  from  Bangalore  and  take  them  with  me  to  Mumbai.  I  am  scheduled  to  travel  by  Air  Deccan  and  upon  contacting  their  Call  centre,  a  rater  curt  young  lady  told  me  that  "Air  Deccan  is  only  for  Human"  !!

She  then  suggested  that  I  try  "KINGFISHER"  since  the  name  suggests  that  they  are  probably  considerate  towards  fishes  !!!  Sad

WOW  ...  THANK  GOD  FOR  CUSTOMER  SUPPORT  !!!    Crying or Very sad

Upon  inquiring  further  she  gave  me  a  number  of  an  airport  official  in  Bangalore,  which  has  turned  out  to  be  bogus.

Can  someone  please  provide  me  with  the  required  information?
Can't  I  simply  put  them  in  my  carry  in  baggage?

 PLEASE  ADVICE    Smile

 Hi!
I  think  the  female  at  Air  Deccan  pulled  your  leg  about  Kingfisher  being  considerate  to  fish  as  the  name  suggests.  I  think  there  should  be  no  problem  in  putting  the  stuff  in  good  packaging  &  putting  it  in  Cabin  luggage  so  that  it  is  always  in  your  care.  There  should  be  no  problem  if  you  are  getting  fish  in  domestic  flights.  You  can  take  the  help  of  the  Bangalore  guys  of  IAH  who  will  help  u  out  there.

Thanks  for  your  reply,  My  only  concern  is  that  I  should  not  be  asked  to  leave  the  fishes  behind  due  to  procedure  issues  at  the  airport.  Crying or Very sad

It  would  be  real  horrible  if  I  was  asked  to  leave  them  behind  and  it  would  be  a  death  warrant  for  the  fishes.  Sad

Also  is  there  any  special  packaging  I  need  to  use...to  keep  them  safe  and  warm  during  the  flight?

At  this  point  I  am  hoping  that  transporting  them  in  my  carry  in  baggage  is  possible.

In  the  alternative  you  can  put  them  in  Air  Cargo  (on  the  same  flight  so  that  you  can  pick  'em  up  when  u  land).  Check  with  the  Airline.  Thats  how  i  send  my  fish  to  other  cities.

 Hi  FB:

You  can  check  the  fishes  as  Cargo  with  Jet  Airways  OR  Indian  Airlines...
They'll  deliver  them  safe  to  Mumbai...
 Bye,

 Thank  you  for  replying.

Can't  I  simply  put  them  in  my  carry  in  baggage?
I  do  not  trust  the  Cargo  Option...fear  that  the  fishes  may  not  survive.  I  am  just  going  to  be  transporting  a  couple  of  fishes...not  too  many...

Just  pack  them  carefully,  surround  them  with  clothes  and  put  them  in  your  check-in  baggage.  I  did  that  when  coming  home  from  Bangalore  in  June  and  I  had  loads  of  fish  and  2  flighs    before  I  got  home.I  was  on  Spicejet  and  they  also  don't  allow  pets  or  fish  and  the  security  people  opened  my  bags  and  saw  the  fish  but  did'nt  say  anything.  Don't  make  a  big  bag  of  fish,  if  you  have  many  pack  them  separately  in  smaller  bags,  it  was  because  I  had  very  big  bags  that  the  people  at  the  scanner  wondered  what  the  bags  were  and  asked  me  to  open  my  suitcase.I  also  brought  fish  back  from  Thailand  recently  and  had  no  problem. This  time  they  were  packed  in  individual  bags  and  were'nt  seen  by  the  scanner.
If  you  need  help  packing  them  ask  Adip  he  did  a  wonderful  job  for  me  so  he's  the  expert,  according  to  me.
         Good  luck

 Fishbone!

 No  worries  at  all!

Let  me  tell  you  how  all  of  us  do  it!  I  mean,  carry  fish  on  aircraft!

Never  carry  it  in  your  hand/cabin  baggage,  as  you  will  invariably  have  to  open  it  to  show  them  what  you  have  inside!

Carry  fish  ONLY  in  your  check  in  baggage,  as  this  will  usually  never  be  opened.  Pack  your  fish  as  you  usually  do,  and  make  sure  you  have  double  or  triple  covers,  as  cichlids  might  bite  and  injure  plastic  bags[in  case  the  fish  are  really  big  buggers].  You  dont  have  to  worry  at  all.  Just  check  in  your  suitcase  containing  the  fish,  and  keep  going.  It  will  surely  arrive  safe  when  you  pick  it  up  at  the  baggage  claim  at  Mumbai!

Try  to  make  the  covers  not  too  full  of  oxygen,  as  some  covers  collapse,  due  to  the  pressure  difference  due  to  altitude[  like  your  ears  pop].  So  make  sure  your  covers  are  not  too  full,  and  keep  your  clothes  surrounding  them  to  take  the  impact,  when  your  luggage  is  thrown  around!

 Thats  that!
