What  are  EI  Natural  Ferts??????   Surprised  I  never  knew  Diana  Walstad  started  dosing  ferts  in  her  tanks.

Did  you  mean  EI  Dosing  method??

is  the  tank  meant  to  be  viewed  from  more  than  one  angle?

A  620L/Hr  filter  in  a  225  liter  tank,  and  a  reactor  connected  to  the  filter  outflow;  Will  you  be  adding  anymore  power  heads  for  water  circulation?

Have  mailed  you  my  demands  for  stem  cuttings  already  Smile

 Hi  Unni,

You  guessed  right.  The  tank  is  viewed  from  two  sides.  Hence  the  diagonal  approach  to  planting.

I  should  be  adding  a  powerhead  for  the  reactor  soon  and  allowing  the  canister  to  do  its  job.  Lack  of  power  points  is  a  big  problem  for  me  here.  Can't  complain  with  the  number  of  tanks  I  have.   Chuckle

Thanks  Suraj  bhaiya  for  the  detailed  description  on  laying  the  Ferka  substrate.Well  had  a  few  querries:-

1.Is  it  that  Ferka's  Aquabase  is  rich  in  N  and  P  as  Ammazonia  or  is  it  rich  enough  in  iron?

2.If  I  want  to  go  for  crypts  with  Ferka  Aquabase  ,  can  I  use  only  a  single  250  gms  of  Aquabase  in  180  ltr  tank  mixed  with  laterite  if  I  donot  want  to  order  3  bags  of  Aquabase?

3.How  does  the  soil  behave  when  used  with  EI  dosing  method  other  than  Ferka  ferts  as  I  plan  to  go  the  with  EI  Dosing  method?

Hope  you  are  not  bored  with  so  many  questions  but  I  want  really  to  know  about  Ferka  Aquabase  for  it  seems  to  be  a  cheap  alternative  to  a  good  substrate  .

 Hi  Abhishek,

 1.  The  exact  ingredients  of  Aquabase  are  not  known.  But  my  guess  is  that  it  is  rich  in  N  and  P,  as  a  50%  water  change  is  advised  after  2  days  of  planting  and  another  30%  after  a  week  of  planting.  This  helps  in  setting  up  the  biological  medium  in  the  tank  faster.

 2.  You  can  definitely  use  it  with  laterite.  No  issues  here.  In  which  case,  you  mix  Aquabase  with  laterite  and  then  top  up  with  gravel.

 3.  Never  tried  this  with  EI  dosing  method,  so  am  unable  to  give  you  the  answer  for  this  one.  Currently  I  am  dosing  my  nano  with  1ml  of  ferts  (Aquatilizer  and  Balance-K)  once  every  three  days.  For  a  200lt  tank,  it  works  out  to  2ml  of  Aquatilizer  and  1ml  of  Balance-K  per  day.  I  start  liquid  dosing  from  this  weekend  on,  keeping  in  mind  that  the  Aquabase  was  introduced  two  weeks  ago.

That's  a  great  explanation  Syraj  bhaiya.Thanx  for  all  those  answers. It  seems  that  Ferka's  Aquabase  is  standing  upto  its  reputation. If  it  does  turn  out  to  be  that  good,it  will  be  a  great  cheap  and  rich  substrate  alternative  for  amazonia.Ofcourse  it  might  not  be  that  great  but  definitely  a  pocket  friendly  solution.  Well  got  to  look  out  for  its  compatibility  with  EI  ferts.

I  am  waiting  in  deep  eagerness  for  how  your  tank  turns  out  to  be  and  I  do  feel  it  will  be  another  inspiration  like  your  6  feeter  one.

 Hi  Suraj

Thanks  for  the  snaps.  I  have  been  wanting  to  try  this  plant  out,  well  will  see  how  it  does  in  your  tank  and  decide....BTW  the  red  plant  I  have  tried  a  few  years  ago  turned  out  that  Its  not  exactly  a  water  plant  after  a  while  it  tries  to  shoot  up  and  out  of  the  water  lets  see  what  it  does  with  you.

 All  the  best!!

Great  to  see  you  in  action  again!
I  want  to  see  some  more  fine  leaved  plant  that  will  add  depth  to  the  tank.
 All  the  best!

Suraj,  A  wonderful  explanation.  Very  informative.  I  might  also  try  Ferka  Aquabase,  don't  know  if  it  is  available  in  Pune.  I  am  just  collecting  plants  now  and  planting  them  in  plastic  cups.  The  complete  plants  have  not  collected,  hence  I  did  not  proceed  on  the  soil  part.  Will  tackle  them  as  it  come  the  way.  In  Pune  it  is  very  difficult  to  source  any  planted  materia.  There  is  only  one  guy  who  is  a  monopoly.  Lets  see  am  planning  a  visit  to  Kerala,  will  see  if  I  can  catch  hold  on  Unni  in  Cochin  or  Vince  In  TVM  during  my  visit.

I  hope  Unni  wont  mind  helping  me..

Oryzias  dancena  is  an  Indian  native,  Unni.  Some  of  them  tend  to  take  flakes,  while  I  have  a  couple  that  refuse  to  eat  and  are  wasting  away.

Mathew,  Ferka  is  still  not  available  in  Pune.  Mail  me  and  I  shall  do  the  needful.

Here's  the  18th  day  update.  Liquid  dosing  started  over  the  last  two  days.  2ml  of  Ferka  Aquatilizer  and  1ml  of  Ferka  Balance-K  every  day.

Replaced  the  Anubias  and  Ferns  with  Hygrophila  'Compacta'.

Really  cool  tank.  If  Iam  not  wrong  this  tank  was  just  to  check  the  Freka  performance.  After  a  couple  of  more  months  you  can  think  of  scpaing.  Thumb Up
