I believe that you dose and do too many things to your tanks....that is creating a problem of algae...but that's my opinion. |

Deb,
U r absolutely right about the 'too many things' . But learning to be patient now . Will hardly dose now (infact, no dosing last 10 days has been good---almost no algae ). Its that resolve I need to maintain when I come back . Cpuld never find the reasons for algae earlier (nop algae now).

I dose max 6-7 times in a month. Algae is there but negligible. But that is my water parameters. You have a very nice tank with very nice potential, so I wanted to point it out. Hope you did not mind me saying that. |

Deb,
Not at all. Know that myself too and happy to learn and i am learning (Tirtha helps me a lot to keep my experiments under wrap ). So really welcome suggestions and criticisms.

Do not blame the algae. Those are innocent. They just living there as he is providing a good home.
He is not running CO2 regularly, only running the CO2 when he feels like. He is not following dosing pattern and ratio. You will find all kind of Chinese, japanese, malayasian, europian plant food (I am not going to call them fertz) which are available in NCR region, at his place. Even God can't say what are those bottles are having inside. You tell him to use Lab Grade Chemicals as ferts, he will show you some Red/Green/Blue powders.
Plants are really faithful to their owner so they are still growing good. But yes, sipping chilled beer or Wine with cheese, sitting at a low divan surrounded by planted tanks at his reading room is really an experience.
@Bappa Da: Hope you will not kill me for this post. |

Tirtha,
Just building up a plethora of knowledge about 'what not to do in a planted aquarium'.
And by the way, look who is talking---one whose fresh water planted tank has marine features. The algae there is more like zoanthids ---grey on Monday, black on Wednesday and red during the weekends (after heavy anti algae dosing in Friday). And these days, the very lttle algae I have in my tank has nice dense green moss type looks .,
But seriously, after going easy on dosing and keeping the tank on electronic CO2 unit, the results are much better, Come to check for yourself this weekend,

Don't believe him. Now except the moss, everything is 100% algae free. :)

Hi all,
HAd to travel for 7 weeks. Did try to keep most things automated (means asked people vack home to timely feed, clean, pour water etc ...and did pestered Tirtha at times to 'just check' too). Finally, came back last week and found that the tank perhaps looked better than I left it ! Now I am convinced that the hypothesis that 'I do too many experiments' is true ! All that was done in my absence was just replenish the evaporated water (I would guess that it would be arond 3-4% of the volume every day).....
The CO2 was running with the electronic unit. Lights--not more than 5 hours a day. Temperature between 25-27 degrees I guess.
Here are the pics:
This is how I left the tank around 28th April when I left. (I had removed the Moss fearing that high temperature would kill it)
[img] [/img]
This is how I found it on returning (15th June):

And this is how it looks now after a trimming (of Ambulia at the back and HM in the front):
[img] [/img]
The fishes are doing fine----about 20 odd Neons, 3 cardinals, 3 rasboras, 2 Ottos and a Black Molly!
Time now to start a new project

Last few weeks have been hectic which meant a gross negligence of the tanks. Paid the price, when i relized the HMs had all melted away.
Here is how the two tanks look...
Tank 1: Planted...

The fishes are fine. The CO2 is still through Electronic Carbon Unit.
And this is the tank that houses the kribs
[img] [/img]
This tank is real low maintanance----
