 Hi,
My  Cobalt  blue  discus  laied  eggs  today  morning  Cheering  .  This  is  second  time  they  have  laied  eggs.  First  time  was  about  20  days  ago,  after  finishing  the  PP  treatment  they  were  started  to  pair  off  and  spawned  in  a  3  footer.  On  that  time  they  laied  eggs  on  the  floor  of  the  tank.  I  got  10-  15  fries(not  free  swimmers)  but  suddenly  they  were  vanished  most  probabolly  parents  ate  them.  After  that  I  moved  them  to  a  seperate  tank  measuring  18h  x  18w  x  24L.  After  laying  eggs  I  add  some  Methylene  blue  to  prvent  fungus.  This  is  for  the  first  time  I  am  going  for  the  breeding.  This  was  my  dream  to  breed  discus  in  Bangladesh  for  the  first  time.  Without  help  from  IAH  members  specially  Mr.  Shiva  Nair  it  was  impossible.  My  requsest  to  the  discus  gurus  to  guide  me  how  to  breed  discus.  I  am  posting  some  pics.  Pls  help  me.

I  am  using  80/20,  ro/tap  water,  also  a  sponge  filter.
 Temp:  30  C.
 Ph:  6.5
 Hardness:  4-5  GH
 Nitrite:  nil

 I  have  some  questions,
Q1.  Should  i  feed  parents  like  before?
Q2.  Should  i  put  plastic  net  around  the  breeding  cone?

 @punna
congrats  on  gettin  the  discus  to  breed,  Clapping
the  fry  feed  on  the  parents  mucus  secretion  for  the  first  few  days,
then  they  should  be  gradually  introduced  to  baby  brine  shrimp,
after  about  2  weeks  seperate  the  fry  from  the  parents,  this  is  to  protect  the  parents  as  the  fry  will  start  injuring  the  parents  by  feeding  on  the  parents  skin  and  causing  wounds,
best  of  luck  raising  the  fry  Thumb Up

 Dear  Punna  ,

Good  to  know  that   your  cobalt  pair  Spawn  .

Once  eggs  are  layed  and  Male  finished  his  work  (  fertilising  the  eggs  ),  it  is  good  practice  to  add  Methylene  blue  and  cover  the  eggs  to  prevent  the  parents  eating  the  eggs  .

Once  eggs  are  layed  it  is  better  stop  feeding  the  pair  (  most  of  the  pairs  refuse  to  eat  ,  they  have  important  work  to  do  then  eating  )  .  If  you  feed  there  is  chances  of  water  quality  droping  down  which  is  not  good  for  fries  .

You  can  do  smaller   WC  at  regular  interval  before  the  hatching  ,  once  they  hatch  no  WC  ,  next  WC  after  fries  attached  to  their  parents

60  -  70  hrs  after   the  spawning  eggs  hatches  (  provided  Male  has  done  his  duty  well)  and  you  will  see  wrigllers  on  the  spawning  site  .

You  will  find  that  the  fries  are  free  swimming  after  60-  70  hrs  after  hatching  ,  once  they  start  free  swimming  they  will  attach  to  their  parents  for  their  feed  .

Once  all  fries  attached  to  their  parents  try  to  do  smaller  WC  with  aged  water  .

You  can  introduce  freshly  hatched  Brine  Shrimp  after  3-  4  days  ,  start  feeding  with  small  qty  or  else  their  parents  gets  irritate  and  also  it  pollutes  the  water  .

You  need  to  do  regular  WC  to  provide  good  water  conditins  to  the  fries  &  Parents  .

After  15-  18  days  ,  Once  they  grow  to  the  comfortable  size  you  can  seperate  the  parents  from  the  fries  or  fries  from  the  parents

Once  they  grow  to  good  size  you  can  introduce  finely  grind  animal  heart  to  the  fries  .

 Thanks

Thanks  Shiva  Sir,  its  a  very  clear  instructions....it  will  help  me  a  lot.  I  put  a  plastic  mesh  around  the  cone,  is  it  ok?  because  the  female  was  trying  to  eat  the  eggs.
After  WC  (before  hatching)  should  i  add  some  Methylene  blue?

Please  everyone  wish  me  luck  because  i  really  need  it  because  this  first  time  for  me..

 Thanks,

Yah  Siva  Sir,  I  think  I  prepared  myself  with  uncountable  tons  of  patience  in  my  mind.   You  know  a  year  before  i  promised  to  breed  discus  first  time  ever  in  Bangladesh.   I  have  a  lot  patience  but  one  thing  for  sure  without  your  help  it  was  impossible  to  reach  so  far  .

Dear  Shiva,  how  many  time  a  discus  pair  spawn  in  a  year?  This  is  their  second  time  and  it  is  between  only  two  weeks.  And  one  of  the  biggest  irony  is  for  me  that  only  one  egg  is  left  and  its  a  clear  one  and  it  is  gurded  by  the  male.  The  parents  are  about  5.5  inches  long  and  they  lay  about  350  eggs  for  last  2  spawns  each.  I  have  another  pair  of  Pegion  Blood  and  Snow  White  recently  formed.  They  Have  laied  eggs  in  3  feet  tank  and  now  they  are  in  a  seperate  tank  like  the  cobalt  blue.  Their  first  eggs  was  like  orange  color  but  the  cobalt  blues  eggs  are  transparent.  Its  it  ok?  I  am  hoping  that  they  will  spawn  too.  The  female(  Snow  White  )  is  about  4  inches  and  the  male  (  Pegion  Blood  )  is  6  inches.

@ilango_slk....thanks  mate  .  they  are  about  5.5  inches.  I  will  try  more  than  my  best  to  get  fry.

Quote:
how  many  time  a  discus  pair  spawn  in  a  year?

Spawning  of  discus  is  depends  on  various  factor  like  temp  .  Ph  ,  hardeness  ,  nutrition  ,  WC  ,  age  ,health  of  Pairs  ,  readyness  of  both  Male  &  Female  etc  .  In  short  if  pair  is  young  and  if  condition  is  favourable  they  will  spawn  more  frequently  .  Some  of  the  good  pairs  sometimes  don't  spawn  for  years  also  .so  it  is  very  difficult  to  say  exactly  how  many  spawn  you  will  get  from  any   pair  .

 It's  OK  .

 Thanks
