 Hi  Bharadwaj,

Welcome  to  IAH.  Do  take  the  time  to  research  &  learn  the  basics  of  aquarium  eco  system  before  actually  setting  your  aquarium.  BTW,  please  update  your  location  in  your  profile.

 Hi  Dushie,

Welcome  to  IAH.  Plenty  of  reading  material  available  here.  Please  read  and  ask  questions  before  even  making  a  tank  or  buying  one.  It  will  go  a  long  way  helping  you  start  your  tank  and  avoid  disappointment.

Hi.  I  am  thurai  from  Bangalore.  I  am  having  a  big  pond  with  about  40  koi's  and  about  10  sharks  and  suckers.  I  am  having  also  1  smaller  tank  of  mollies  and  another  of  guppies.  I  am  a  graduate  of  fine  arts.

i  am  encountering  lots  of  problems  with  my  pond.  Its  about  10000  litre  capacity  and  its  really  difficult  to  maintain  as  i  have  a  biological  filter  with  a  gravel  filtration  method  and  it  always  gets  clogged  and  filled  with  algae.

I  need  help  with  fish  lice  on  my  koi's  very  much  infested  maybe  50  to  70  on  each  and  i  am  finding  it  difficult  to  eradicate.  Today  i  was  searching  and  got  a  medicine  parafin  p.  will  this  work.  Else  how  long  does  it  take  for  the  medicine  to  kill  the  lice.  I  waited  after  applying  the  dosage  mentioned  for  neary  2  hours  and  the  lice  was  swimming  happily  ever  still.  I  am  totally  confused.  Please  help.  Also  i  notice  a  kingd  of  fungal  coating  on  the  fish.  How  do  i  treat  them  correctly.  I  am  finding  it  difficult  to  source  out  medicines  mentioned  in  the  internet  for  these  diseases  and  its  never  available  down  any  fish  shop  in  the  city.  Thank  god  i  came  across  'matsyavatar'  in  mg  road  which  had  a  good  collection  of  the  medicines  i  have  been  hunting  but  this  parafin  p  doesn't  seem  working.

Also  how  do  i  treat  them  correct  and  which  disease  do  i  quarantine  first.  Which  is  a  more  serious  problem.  I  lost  three  koi  while  trating....maybe  my  methods  were  wrong....need  some  enlightenment.

Also  is  there  eanyone  i  can  contact  for  advise......like  when  a  fish  is  floating  30  degree  off  balance  and  only  thing  you  can  do  is  stare  helplessly

 Greetings,
My  name  is  Pushkaraj  and  I  work  for  3  Hutchison  Whampoa.  I've  been  in  the  hobby  for  more  than  15  years  and  I  still  cannot  get  enough.  I've  had  the  opportunity  of  keeping  rare  ornamental  fish  like  gold  nugget  plecs,  teacup  rays,  checkerboard  discus  etc...  and  my  family  doesn't  mind  it  anymore.  I've  had  to  spend  a  lot  of  time  working  or  either  worrying  about  it,  thus  compromising  with  my  hobby  in  the  past.  I've  lost  almost  all  fish  I  had  due  to  failures  in  maintainence.  But  nevertheless  I'm  all  determined  for  a  fresh  start.  I've  planned  to  get  some  nice  Grade  AAA  discus  from  wherever  if  available  and  breed  them.  Also  I  am  planning  to  go  for  pre-drilled  tanks  for  automating  filtration.  I  like  all  sort  of  aquatic  life  and  mostly  am  inclined  towards  conservation  of  species  so  that  we  can  keep  our  hands  out  of  wild  waters.  BTW  my  ramirezi  fry  are  doing  great  and  guess  what,  no  infusoria.  I  have  fed  them  nauplii  and  brine  shrimp  right  through  the  begining.  They  are  now  about  2  weeks  old.I  have  six  functional  tanks,  3  of  which  are  in  a  rack  48x18x18  about  250  ltrs,  1  show  tank  48x24x24  and  2  sidekicks  24x24x18.  I  also  have  a  200  litre  water  holder  which  I  am  planning  to  make  a  sump  in  future.
 Cheers!!!  Drinking

 Hi  All

I'm  Santosh  working  for  a  software  company  in  Admin.  I  live  in  Mumbai  suburbs.

I  took  up  having  aquarium  when  we  moved  into  a  new  house.  Buying  the  aquarium  was  a  part  of  home  vastu  then.  But  by  now  these  fishes  give  me  peace  of  mind  for  hours.

Well  I  have  a  diamond  shaped  aquarium  26x12x21x12x26"  height  18",  holds  a  lot  of  water  and  fishes.  I  have  4gold  fish  1  and  1/2  year  old  each  approx  7-8  inches.  Others  in  my  tank  are  2  dollars,  3  angels,  4  skirt  tetra,  and  13  hockey  sticks  (that's  what  the  shopkeeper  told  me  while  selling  it).

Last  Thursday  I  found  angel  fish  eggs  on  the  aquarium  filter  with  two  of  the  parents  guarding  it.  Suddenly  on  Friday  I  found  them  missing.  Can  someone  help  me  understand  what  would  have  happened.

 Regards

 Hi  santosh

Not  sure,  but  might  be  other  fishes  have  eaten  the  eggs  or  have  got  stuck  in  the  filter.
By  the  way  i  am  interested   and  planning  to  make  a  diamond  shape  tank,  would  like  to  see  your  tank.  Why  dont  u  take  some  pictures  of  your  tank  from  different  angles  and  post.  Do  vist  my  topic  in  the  Forum  "Marine  fishs"  and  have  look  into  my  plans.

 Do  reply
